Tokyo Night Food Tour Azabu Juban
Tokyo Night Food Tour Azabu Juban
Overview
In this rainy December night live stream, John Daub explores the charming neighborhood of Azabu Juban in central Tokyo. Meeting up with fellow YouTuber Natalia Natchan, they brave the chilly weather to hunt for street food and warm sweets. The area is known for its fusion of Japanese tradition and international influence, hosting numerous embassies and trendy cafes.
Despite technical difficulties with his DJI Osmo camera struggling against the rain, John and Natalia manage to sample local delights including imagawayaki (sweet griddle cakes) and visit several cafes. Japan Travel Tips
- Azabu Juban Atmosphere: The neighborhood feels more homey and lower-rise compared to nearby Roppongi, with a mix of embassies and local shops.
- Street Food: Look for small stands selling yakitori and oden, especially in winter. Some may not offer mochikaeri (takeout).
- Imagawayaki: A cheap and warm snack (around 140 yen) perfect for rainy nights. Look for shops with long histories.
- Christmas Drinks: Chains like Starbucks offer limited-time seasonal drinks (e.g., Gingerbread Latte) in December.
- Camera Gear: Electronics like the DJI Osmo may struggle in rain; protect your gear or have a backup plan.
- Navigation: Azabu Juban has a central intersection that feels like a small town square, rare in central Tokyo.
Japanese Language & Culture Notes
- Azabu Juban: A prestigious residential area in Minato-ku, known for many embassies and foreign residents.
- Oden: Typically found in konbini (convenience stores) in winter, but dedicated restaurants exist.
- Imagawayaki: Also known as taikoyaki, these are round cakes filled with anko (sweet red bean paste) or custard.
- Itadakimasu: Phrase said before eating to express gratitude for the food.
- Torikizoku: A popular cheap izakaya (pub) chain where most items are around 280 yen.
- Bird Sign: John and Natalia notice a sign warning about birds pooping, a common urban issue in parks.
Food & Drink Guide
- Yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) - 00:02:23 - Smelled good but no takeout available.
- Oden (stewed vegetables and fishcakes) - 00:02:50 - Seen at Fukushima-ya stand; rare to find a dedicated shop.
- Imagawayaki (griddle cake) - 00:08:01 - 140 yen each. Flavors: Anko (red bean) and Custard. John compares custard to vanilla Tootsie Rolls.
- Coffee Cream Puff - 00:32:02 - Purchased at Oslo Cafe. Fresh cream with coffee flavor.
- Gingerbread Latte - 00:41:13 - Starbucks limited Christmas drink.
- Matcha White Latte - 00:41:13 - Starbucks matcha with white chocolate syrup.

00:00:00 John Daub: Hello everybody! We're live. This is Azabu Juban. I just arrived at the station. You can see Azabu Juban right up there. And I'm here to meet Natalia Natchan. She's somebody that I met a few months ago. It just started raining so the weather is not perfect. Boom. Central Tokyo. Let's see if we can find her. Usually, this is a big meeting spot here in Tokyo. You can see Tokyo Tower up there.
00:00:31 John Daub: Ah, there she is! Hey! It's raining! Alright, I see you. Okay, hug. Yay!
00:00:47 Natalia Natchan: So, it's raining in Tokyo but that's okay. We've come here to try to eat some street food. Yeah, so let's walk this way because it just started raining. What a perfect day for street food! Yeah, this is a perfect day in the rain.
00:01:06 John Daub: Always trust John to make the best plans. I can't even say it's a Guns N' Roses November Rain night because it's already December. But it's one of those chilly nights with rain. Like it could be snow but it's not. That's such a shame.
00:01:19 Natalia Natchan: Now, Azabu Juban is in the center of Tokyo. The closest neighborhood to it is Roppongi. So that's the name that a lot of people know. That's where the nightlife is. But what makes this neighborhood really special is that it's a fusion of Japan and foreign cultures because a lot of the embassies around this area.
00:01:37 John Daub: How many?
00:01:38 Natalia Natchan: I don't know. It's like every embassy I think. But what I like about this neighborhood is that there's so many really cute cafes. It has a great feel to it. This is neat because all the buildings here are a lot lower. When you go to Roppongi, the buildings get a lot taller and it feels more like an urban area. Here it feels more like, I don't know, Brooklyn or some kind of like the lower end of Manhattan.
00:02:11 John Daub: Yeah, it feels more homey. Some of them look really new and like this one right here looks like it's been here for 500 years.
00:02:23 Natalia Natchan: Yakitori! This looks so good.
00:02:28 John Daub: Thank you. It smells good.
00:02:32 Natalia Natchan: It smells good. Thank you. What is this sauce?
00:02:39 John Daub: Yakitori sauce. Yakitori sauce! You should have subtitles for yourself. Yeah. I saw back over here. Oh, that smells so good. I saw over here they have oden (stewed vegetables and fishcakes) as well.
00:02:50 Natalia Natchan: I've only ever seen oden at a konbini (convenience store). I know. I haven't seen like an oden restaurant before. This is like the first time I've ever seen oden. Usually they're like in the convenience stores in Family Mart or 7-Eleven. And you can get a cup of it and it's perfect food for the winter.
00:03:11 John Daub: They don't have anybody in there. I guess you can go in and eat on the second floor. I didn't know you could have a restaurant, an oden restaurant only like this where they serve it at the door. It's sort of new to me.
00:03:22 Natalia Natchan: Do they serve it?
00:03:23 John Daub: I don't know. Do they? I guess they... It's called Fukushima-ya.
00:03:29 Natalia Natchan: Didn't you just go to Fukushima?
00:03:31 John Daub: I did go to Fukushima. Did you go to an oden store?
00:03:34 Natalia Natchan: I didn't but I should have. Now we don't know if it's an actual oden shop or not.
00:03:40 John Daub: Alright, we're gonna walk around and try to find something to eat. Unfortunately, the yakitori I asked before and they can't do mochikaeri (takeout). So I haven't introduced... I've introduced Nat-chan before so why don't we introduce you to the people out there. She has a YouTube channel as well.
00:04:04 Natalia Natchan: Her YouTube channel is in Japanese so if you're studying Japanese you should definitely check out her channel. But you also have an English channel, right?
00:04:12 John Daub: Yeah, I just started it a couple months ago and it's a little different than my Japanese channel but it's more about introducing some of my experiences in Japan. Food of course because everybody likes food.
00:04:27 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, it's a true story. I don't think John likes food very much though.
00:04:28 John Daub: I love food! I feel like I never see videos of you eating Japanese food.
00:04:32 Natalia Natchan: I totally eat a lot. I just released a video on wagyu (premium beef) like last week. That's the good stuff.
00:04:39 John Daub: Yeah, that's the good stuff. Did you take anybody with you or was it a solo wagyu?
00:04:43 Natalia Natchan: No, actually, yeah, no, it was pretty much just me. It was just pretty much me.
00:04:49 John Daub: Another thing I love about Azabu Juban is that it has like this European feel to it. And this neighborhood has some of the best cafes. You can smell that from here.
00:04:58 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, you can smell the bread, that bakery smell. How are you supposed to go on a diet whenever they have places like this?
00:05:08 John Daub: I have no idea. All I know is that it smells really, really good. They have little snowmen!
00:05:16 Natalia Natchan: Yeah. I don't know. Maybe you can go again. I'm from the state of...
00:05:26 John Daub: Alright, we're losing the signal in and out. So I want to take you in and take a look at this bakery. You can see through the window here. Oh my gosh. They even created for the holidays. A lot of this bread, it looks really European-ish. The bakery, this is not a Japanese... I don't know, is it a Japanese bakery or a Western... European Japanese bakery. A European bakery in Japan. It looks really good. They have yakisoba (fried noodles) bread, so I guess it's a little different.
00:06:04 Natalia Natchan: Oh yeah, this is one of the most bizarre... Yeah. Yeah, this is one of the most bizarre baked items that I've ever seen in my life. They've taken it, and you can see... Carbs on carbs.
00:06:21 John Daub: Sorry, the Osmo has died on me, but we will get it back.
00:06:28 Natalia Natchan: Come on, Osmo. He's stubborn. He doesn't like the rain.
00:06:32 John Daub: He doesn't like the rain. Natalia's... We're together, Osmo.
00:06:37 Natalia Natchan: I know, Osmo's dead. I'm sorry, we'll keep it going.
00:06:46 John Daub: So... It's so random. Like, I wonder why they decide to make a shop for coats and stuff in the middle of this area.
00:06:54 Natalia Natchan: The one thing I like about Azabu Juban is that it is pretty eclectic. It has a mix of so many different styles. You'll find... And it's like mom and pop shops are still alive here in this area.
00:07:07 John Daub: That's another reason why I like to come here. This looks so traditional.
00:07:11 Natalia Natchan: I know. This is a pretty cool restaurant.
00:07:16 John Daub: So, I've lost the Osmo, everybody. I might have to go commando. We're a little bit crazy for this broadcast. But this area of Tokyo starts to come alive. Is it working? Are you working?
00:07:44 Natalia Natchan: It's semi-working. I didn't know how to start working.
00:07:48 John Daub: Yeah, it is raining here. So, this isn't gonna be a very long live stream, but I do wanna try this. I have a big bit of a sweet tooth, and this looks so good. They have cheese for people who don't have a sweet tooth.
00:08:01 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, this is imagawayaki (griddle cake stuffed with sweet bean paste).
00:08:05 John Daub: So, I have a thousand yen. So, I'm gonna get two of them. You wanna try one?
00:08:10 Natalia Natchan: I would love to try one.
00:08:12 John Daub: Okay. Here you go. Could you get two for us, and I will try my best to get... Can you hold it while you eat?
00:08:19 Natalia Natchan: I think so. Is it possible?
00:08:21 John Daub: Anything is possible. Ask the broadcasters, because I don't know if I can believe you.
00:08:29 Natalia Natchan: Oh, it's a five o'clock... Five o'clock... Time.
00:08:34 John Daub: Yeah. They have it at five o'clock. It's to let the kids know that it's time to go home.
00:08:45 Natalia Natchan: Oh, it's okay. It's past my bedtime.
00:08:47 John Daub: We are gonna... Tyler, we are buying it. We are buying it, my friend. Which flavor would you like me to try?
00:08:52 Natalia Natchan: Is there more than one?
00:08:53 John Daub: Oh, I guess custard. Custard cream looks good. What's okura?
00:09:01 Natalia Natchan: Are you feeling daring tonight? What is it? Let's try one.
00:09:08 John Daub: Well, it can't be anything crazy, right? Ask the... Oh, look. She's putting the stamp on it.
00:09:18 Natalia Natchan: Should I ask what it is, or should I just have a surprise? Sure. Just a surprise, maybe.
00:09:22 John Daub: Okay. And you want custard? Oh, yeah. I'm gonna try this. Alright, we have some Osmo. This does look really good. This shop looks like it's been here forever. This is the imagawayaki, it's called.
00:09:56 Natalia Natchan: Let's check it out. Let's see. 55 years?
00:10:11 John Daub: 55 years? My parents, my father-in-law, they're here for 67.
00:10:22 Natalia Natchan: Wow. It's the year of the producer. Oh, rice.
00:10:28 John Daub: Well, you said some of the places go out of business.
00:10:34 Natalia Natchan: Thank you. Which one? But then let's just go in separately. We don't have to be together.
00:10:43 John Daub: I thought you had to put it in separately. Oh, I see. I thought it was money. Sorry. I'll put it in separately. What is it? What is the name of the name? Oh, right. Yeah. Imagawayaki.
00:11:12 Natalia Natchan: It's a red bean. It's red bean.
00:11:15 John Daub: Okay, so maybe it's just regular bean. Imagawayaki. Azabu Juban. And it's only 140 yen? I changed the battery, but it's not a battery problem. It's only 140 yen. It's like a dollar.
00:11:38 Natalia Natchan: Maybe. If you have a dollar, how is it right now?
00:11:40 John Daub: Well, I estimate down. Thank God. There's a change. You got it! You did it! Alright, let's eat! Thank you! Oh, peace! Oh, yay!
00:12:05 Natalia Natchan: That's cool! That's cute! She's used to this park, I bet.
00:12:08 John Daub: That was awesome. Did you see that? I wish the Osmo was completely dead, but we're going to keep going. You know what? There's a park around here. Let's take a look. We're going to go in somewhere warm. I think, based on your genes here, we might need a warmer space.
00:12:29 Natalia Natchan: A warmer space? Really? I was going to say I'm a chameleon. I adapt to my surroundings, but I don't think that's the right meaning.
00:12:37 John Daub: It's a pretty cool vibe, this town. What is this? A gift shop?
00:12:41 Natalia Natchan: I don't know. More than well-gostly. Yeah, very fashionable.
00:12:47 John Daub: Very fashionable. Alright. I'm going to show you the center of Azabu Juban. There's an intersection that's really nice. It reminds me... You don't get a lot of these places. Tyler, thank you so much, my friend. That's awesome. There's a center of the Azabu Juban. It reminds me of places like in New York or in Europe.
00:13:15 Natalia Natchan: Or Paris. This kind of... Almost like a wasted space, you might say.
00:13:21 John Daub: But it's a good place. I don't think it's wasted at all. Here we are. Here's the center. I don't ever see this kind of like between two roads. An area to like sit down and... I don't know. This is something that's very unique to Japan. I like the cobblestone streets. It looks even better with a little bit of rain.
00:13:45 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, like in my town we had a historic main street. Yeah. I think they have that in most small towns in like South and Midwest or anywhere. But this kind of looks similar.
00:13:57 John Daub: It's just a small space. Yeah, you don't get this a lot in Tokyo. Tokyo is very... After World War II and they made the streets up again, they made it very practical-like. They didn't think about parks and... Not so much. Central Tokyo is like a maze of buildings. And this looks like kind of a waste of space.
00:14:19 John Daub: I do apologize. The Osmo. Here's the battery. She is not... She's not working with me. Very well. I don't think she likes me.
00:14:31 Natalia Natchan: It's not you! It's Osmo! It's not you, it's me!
00:14:35 John Daub: I did not! I literally said that! It's not you, it's me! When I look at electronics, they break. I said that before, remember?
00:14:43 Natalia Natchan: You did say that before. Man, I jinxed that so much.
00:14:47 John Daub: Let's try this while it's hot, right?
00:14:51 Natalia Natchan: I don't think it's hot anymore.
00:14:53 John Daub: I think this is yours. I'm sorry if it's not.
00:14:56 Natalia Natchan: Oh no, it is pretty hot. Which one do you have? You don't know. The anko (sweet red bean paste). The anko? I should. It's something.
00:15:02 John Daub: It's gonna be good either way. Do you like anko or no?
00:15:05 Natalia Natchan: Oh, I love anko. Okay, so you're good either way. I'll eat anything.
00:15:09 John Daub: So it's Russian Roulette who has the anko. Yeah. Now they put the little symbol on it. You remember she was, um, the lady in the shop? She actually burns it.
00:15:18 Natalia Natchan: Oh, you have a different one! This one is yours. Cream. Oh, okay. You wanna go halfsies?
00:15:24 John Daub: Let's go halfsies. Okay. Just break it in the Barbaric American. But you're holding your broken... Alright, just grab it and just grab it and rip it!
00:15:34 Natalia Natchan: Isn't this like a thing? Like wishbones or something?
00:15:37 John Daub: Yeah. Oh, it doesn't look as good like... Oh yeah, you can see the anko inside. Very nice. It's still steaming. It's still hot. I wonder what it says. The kanji.
00:15:46 Natalia Natchan: It says, eat me now. I feel like we went to a different language school because I did not learn the kanji.
00:15:52 John Daub: Yeah, I didn't. Oh, this is good. And it's just warm enough.
00:16:01 Natalia Natchan: I thought I was gonna pass out from the heat. Is it cold? This saved my life.
00:16:09 John Daub: It's warm, isn't it? There's a cafe over there. Maybe we can jump in there.
00:16:15 Natalia Natchan: You're fat. I eat while... while it's hot. Two bites! I'm proud of myself. Are you human?
00:16:28 John Daub: No. Okay. No. I can't eat... I can't talk with my mouth full because some people will chat and tell me not to do that. I have to be careful.
00:16:42 John Daub: This cafe here, Labohime, it's a chain in Tokyo, but one of the things that I like about Azabu Juban, well, one of the many things that I like about this place, because I have a lot to say about this place, it has a lot of really small, trendy cafes and restaurants, places that you would go.
00:17:00 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, you can have these things?
00:17:03 John Daub: Yeah. I guess it would be pretty romantic, but you can go into there and there's lots of little cafes and little restaurants, boutique places, and it's really nice for walking around. Especially when you have a stabilizer that works. Azubu! Where are you? I know she was working. Ozmo is a woman, and she was working just wonderfully before we started the livestream.
00:17:27 Natalia Natchan: Camera shy.
00:17:31 John Daub: Do you want to try this one?
00:17:33 Natalia Natchan: Oh yeah. Maybe you should get the bigger half. Really? It's cute.
00:17:42 John Daub: Yeah. Alright, let's rip it. Give me half. I'm gonna do it. Ready?
00:17:47 Natalia Natchan: Wait, it's gonna be messy. Are you holding on? Oh my... AHHH! No, that was gross!
00:17:58 John Daub: Wait, um... Wait, I have tissues. Oh, that's alright. Is it?
00:18:02 Natalia Natchan: Yeah. It's called finger licking good for a reason. Okay.
00:18:07 John Daub: Alright. Sometimes you... You're getting a little messy sometimes. But you still got the smaller piece. This is good.
00:18:22 Natalia Natchan: Custard! Custard! Vanilla. Oh, this is so good. Baby's. I can't believe it's just like a dollar.
00:18:34 John Daub: I know, that's dangerous. Is it really... Tastes like those Tootsie Rolls. Like the vanilla ones. Have you ever had vanilla Tootsie Rolls?
00:18:45 Natalia Natchan: Yeah! I used to pick them out because they were the only good ones. I was wondering, like... It had like this nostalgic taste. You know, you have a smell or a taste from your childhood and you can't recall. I guess that's what it would be. Like the vanilla... It has a really strong vanilla taste. That really fake processed vanilla. Imagawa-san really likes the vanilla extract, I think. She really put some vanilla extract in that. She went hard with the vanilla. She was a beast. Like the way she posed for that picture. That's so cute. Did you see her? She's the OG of Azabu Juban. Nobody knows it. She runs this place. Probably.
00:19:27 John Daub: So there's embassies and a lot of foreign workers in this area of Tokyo. But there's also a lot of people that have been here for generations. And this is sort of clash between the old families of Tokyo and this is the Azabu Juban area and the new people coming from international places. The rent here is some of the highest in Tokyo. I guess it's because you have all of these... It's a trendy place to live. Probably if I lived in the center of Tokyo, this would be one of the places I'd want to live.
00:19:54 Natalia Natchan: You live... I live here? I would love to live here. Is it mostly office buildings or are there people actually... No, these aren't office buildings at all.
00:20:01 John Daub: These are residents. A lot of these places are residents. A lot of these places are cafes. That looks so aesthetic. That shot right there in your camera.
00:20:12 Natalia Natchan: Oh yeah. I just want to frame that.
00:20:14 John Daub: Alright. It's alright. It's been framed right there. Click. Alright. So. What have you discovered?
00:20:27 Natalia Natchan: The bird will poop on you so don't stand here and flip.
00:20:29 John Daub: No. Are you serious?
00:20:31 Natalia Natchan: Yes, I'm serious. The bird will poop on you? No. Oh my gosh.
00:20:35 John Daub: Oh, this is the classic. I did not lie. I just noticed that. I thought that was like a shoulder patch. A bird actually took a dump on her. This guy is mean. Oh, smiling? He's laughing. This is a public road sign?
00:20:58 Natalia Natchan: Oh gosh. I could stay here forever. What were those birds eating? It looks like... It says... Did it tell you what they were eating?
00:21:09 John Daub: I guess berries. The whole story is here. It's not actually raining. It's not... A bird. This is a bird. That's awesome.
00:21:19 Natalia Natchan: Oh, I love that. Oh, that means food. Oh, right. Yeah, don't feed the pigeons. That's a problem everywhere. They do that in New York. The people who feed the pigeons. And then they poop on you.
00:21:34 John Daub: So. It happens. Not in Missouri.
00:21:36 Natalia Natchan: No? Have you ever had a bird take a dump on you from... I have not had the privilege.
00:21:45 John Daub: From 100 meters up? I remember... It's on my dad.
00:21:47 Natalia Natchan: Oh, really? I remember when I was on a university trip, all the university students, we would go on school trips to Disney World, like for our final trip. This was like the end of our high school period. We'd go for 3-4 days. And we were in Epcot Center and one of the most popular girls in the school was just standing there and a bird pooped right on her. Probably the best moment in my entire life because I don't know. I didn't really like her.
00:22:16 John Daub: You didn't like her. It's okay. I would have been there with you laughing. And that was the end of high school. It's justice, right? The most popular girl gets bird pooped on her. On the last day.
00:22:26 Natalia Natchan: Should have happened on the first day. Humbling.
00:22:28 John Daub: Alright. And then I guess she wouldn't have been popular.
00:22:30 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, she wouldn't have been popular. Then I might have liked her then.
00:22:38 John Daub: I apologize for the shakiness. It happens because Osmo is off.
00:22:42 Natalia Natchan: How dare you?
00:22:46 John Daub: I know Osmo. Osmo works for 5 seconds and then dies. Honolulu Cafe is a chain. It just sort of opened up all over Tokyo. There's 5 or 6 of them now. It smells like Hawaii inside.
00:23:01 Natalia Natchan: Ah, yes. Aloha.
00:23:05 John Daub: Nice. It doesn't feel like Hawaii.
00:23:08 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, it doesn't feel like Hawaii at all. I was thinking of going in here and getting a coffee but I'm not sure because the Osmo is a problem. It's a little bit dark and spooky.
00:23:27 John Daub: There's a Tully's. Actually, I wanted to go. I wanted to go to Roppongi Midtown and Peter's gonna be coming.
00:23:37 Natalia Natchan: At 7 o'clock.
00:23:38 John Daub: But I might not be able to stick around that long. Peter von Gomm is gonna shoot for his new episode on his YouTube channel some insert shots of Christmas lights. I wanna go over there and just show you the Christmas lights because our Christmas my Christmas show yesterday got cut because it had Disney music in it so half of you around the world couldn't see Disney blocked my livestream from yesterday which stunk.
00:24:01 Natalia Natchan: Commie.
00:24:03 John Daub: Commie? I like her. There. Commie did it. Gosh darn. Okay. You know what? We took a thumbnail in the beginning. Let's go get a coffee there. It's called the Oslo Cafe and there's some Norwegian fans might be happy to see that their culture is represented here in Tokyo.
00:24:26 Natalia Natchan: Is that a Norwegian chain?
00:24:29 John Daub: I don't know. Why is it Norwegian?
00:24:31 Natalia Natchan: I don't know. Why is their culture represented?
00:24:33 John Daub: I don't know. I wanna know. We all wanna know. And I'm gonna go f*** it out. And why this Oslo doesn't work. It works for five seconds and then dies. Sort of. Until it dies. Somebody please tell it to work.
00:24:52 Natalia Natchan: Yeah. And somebody chime in. Anyone from Norway. That's like old fashioned.
00:24:58 John Daub: Oh wow. So cute. I think that's pretty cool. These are like family photos here in Japan. I can see in the window like the history of Japan.
00:25:10 Natalia Natchan: Is this the same family?
00:25:12 John Daub: No, we can't be the same family. It was pretty neat too.
00:25:16 Natalia Natchan: They don't look the same at all, John. I didn't really look that carefully. Oh look at the dogs. No way. Oh, sweet babies. Can you imagine that house? It's just insane. It's like one of those old ladies who just kept buying dogs.
00:25:33 John Daub: That's me. That's gonna be me whenever I'm here. Whenever I'm here. I'm not gonna be here.
00:25:39 Natalia Natchan: Oh wow, there's the blue eyed samurai. Isn't it?
00:25:43 John Daub: I don't know. He's got a sword. It's a pretty nice looking family. I knew them. Look at these kids. That's a big family.
00:26:02 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, that's pretty rare for Japanese. Yeah, well this could be the entire extended family. These people must really love their dogs. Because they have family pictures.
00:26:12 John Daub: Yeah, they love their dogs. Well this is a trendy neighborhood and everybody seems to have a pet. Well this is a trendy neighborhood and everybody seems to have a pet. Or a daughter. Either or. Inu no kimochi (dog's feelings). You get lion stamps. You get free dog stamps. A dog book. Dogs are where it's at.
00:26:29 Natalia Natchan: Are you a cat person or a dog person? A dog. I'm not a very smart person. Dogs just have fun and lick. Cats have their own personality.
00:26:39 John Daub: You know what, I like them both. But cats are... Yeah, they are kind of mean, aren't they?
00:26:45 Natalia Natchan: They're evil.
00:26:48 John Daub: Oh my god, I don't know how I feel about this. I can't even turn the red button off. It's busted. Do you think the rain might have had something to do with this?
00:27:00 Natalia Natchan: I don't think so. It's not raining that much.
00:27:03 John Daub: But... What are you gonna do? I've gone commando. And that's my thumb right there.
00:27:09 Natalia Natchan: I'm scared. I don't do this. I'm like... Oh look at the shop!
00:27:15 John Daub: This shop, just the inside of it looks like time stopped. And... That's a real photographer. This looks like... Matsu... Matsuge? What's the kanji? Matsuge? Matsuina? Matsu... Matsuo? Maybe? Yeah, could be. The guy's trying to read the kanji. The guy's Matsuo. Yeah, that's it. It says Matsuo! It's not Manji. Look at that shop! It looks like it's from... Like some grandfather... Look at the carpet in there. Wow. I love that.
00:28:00 Natalia Natchan: Oh, um... Imagawa. Maybe it's Imagawa's like... Family.
00:28:06 John Daub: Thanks for holding the Osmo. We are going old school. I'm leaving with the Osmo. He'll never see me again. That's alright. I think it's broken. It's broken anyway. Damn, I came all this way just doing a broken thing. There's a standing bar.
00:28:26 Natalia Natchan: Standing bar. Do they say that in like, English speaking countries?
00:28:31 John Daub: I don't think so. How did that... That's the cheap izakaya (pub), right? Toriki? Yeah, this is the one... They always go... They're the ones who introduced it to me. The Torikizoku. Everything is like 280 yen. This is my hangout whenever I had no money. It's so cheap there.
00:28:52 Natalia Natchan: Oh, here? So you know this place? Yeah, me and my Japanese language school friends always used to go there because we had no money. Because we always went there. I'd never heard of it until they introduced it to me. That was the only time that I went there. When we went after drinking too much, we kind of ended up there.
00:29:09 John Daub: Sounds like... Normal people. When normal people go to Torikizoku, it's only because they like to drink. Unless they're broke college students, then they go to Torikizoku.
00:29:18 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, that's right. Wow, they even have a taco place here.
00:29:21 John Daub: Oh, where? Where's the taco place? Oh yeah, look at that. Burrito. Burrito. That wasn't here last time I was here. There's the Frijoles, which is another really famous taco hangout. That's just around the corner. But this one is called Burrito and Tacos. That's the name of the place? No. Yeah, the name of their restaurant is Burritos and Tacos. That's easy to remember. They have takeout. How do they compete with this though? I don't know. This looks really good. This looks... The tteokbokki (Korean spicy rice cakes) is Korean. So it's a yakiniku (grilled meat) barbecue. I've never really seen this kind of festival food before. Like just an eager festival food.
00:30:12 Natalia Natchan: Oh wow, that does look good. Is this real?
00:30:15 John Daub: No, it's plastic. I was like, why is it under the wrapper? I guess because it's raining. This is plastic. It looks real. Don't they have a lot of these around most places in Tokyo?
00:30:24 Natalia Natchan: Yeah. I bet it works. It's a lot more appetizing to look at this rather than the menu.
00:30:38 John Daub: Can you eat the plastic?
00:30:40 Natalia Natchan: I mean, you could. I love it. You could eat the plastic. How hungry are you?
00:30:45 John Daub: Not that hungry. I'm on a diet. Sorry, I don't eat plastic on a diet.
00:30:50 Natalia Natchan: Now this... I want to ask all you Norwegians. Oslo Café. I mean, I never heard of it. That's how you introduce a restaurant. My hand isn't moving. It's because it's kind of cold and frozen right now.
00:31:03 John Daub: Now, Oslo Café. Is that a thing in Oslo? I mean, do they have these in other countries? Or is it just here in Tokyo and in Norway? But they have an amazing selection of sweets.
00:31:22 Natalia Natchan: Oh, is this Sweden? But they would call this... They would call this Stockholm Café. Or is that Stockholm Syndrome?
00:31:31 John Daub: I don't know which... Oh, look at that one! It has like the strawberries inside of it and the green stuff. Is that melon? That looks good.
00:31:36 Natalia Natchan: It's strawberry princess cake.
00:31:39 John Daub: I can't eat that because I'm a prince. You don't eat princess cake if you're a dude. Apple Papa Kaka Scandinavian style tartan.
00:31:50 Natalia Natchan: No! Stop it! You can speak Swedish?
00:31:52 John Daub: No, but I can read English. Coffee cream puff! Stop it! Why?
00:32:00 Natalia Natchan: No! She's taking it out. You said stop it!
00:32:02 John Daub: Okay, let's eat. One, please. One. One more. Do you want to eat something?
00:32:14 Natalia Natchan: Which one do you... I don't know. I just ordered that inadvertently. I was shouting at so much. What would they like to see?
00:32:28 John Daub: Tyler, what do you want to see? Tyler, what do you want to see? Thank you. I'll show you how they get you.
00:32:48 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, I didn't... Point cameras at cakes in Japan.
00:32:51 John Daub: Yeah, you have to be careful. Thank you.
00:33:02 Natalia Natchan: I didn't actually want to order that. She just started taking... I said coffee cream puff, and she just started taking it out. And I said, okay, I'll eat it. I didn't actually order it, but... I couldn't argue with her either. It looks so good. I would take it anyways.
00:33:19 John Daub: I don't know. Do you even know what flavor it is? It's coffee, I guess. Are we going to go in there?
00:33:24 Natalia Natchan: I don't know. I didn't plan much. Maybe so it doesn't get soggy.
00:33:33 John Daub: Okay. I'm going to use my nose to turn the camera. That's how guys do it, because our noses are so high, right?
00:33:37 Natalia Natchan: Do you want it? No, I was going to pose it so it doesn't get rained on.
00:33:40 John Daub: That's alright. Look at how beautiful it is. It looked good behind the window. It doesn't look as good... It looks like a hamburger. It doesn't look as good... in my hand as it does in the beautifully lit window. Maybe it's just bad lighting.
00:33:56 Natalia Natchan: Maybe it's just bad lighting. Or maybe it's no lighting.
00:34:02 John Daub: Maybe no lighting. Oh, well. It still looks good. It still looks crusty. Looks so much better in the window. They have a filter over the screen.
00:34:11 Natalia Natchan: Do you want to eat it?
00:34:14 John Daub: Should we go junk in? Rock, scissors, paper?
00:34:16 Natalia Natchan: How do you eat it with your hands? I don't know. It's got a cover. I can only do rock. I can't do paper or scissors.
00:34:24 John Daub: Okay, I know which one to do then. Rock, paper, scissors. Oh no! I lost! You wanted me to eat it.
00:34:32 Natalia Natchan: Oh, God. Alright, okay. Oh, what did I press?
00:34:39 John Daub: Everybody, are you ready? You want the top?
00:34:42 Natalia Natchan: Oh, sure. It popped off. He popped the top!
00:34:45 John Daub: I popped the top! How are you going to hold it? It's awesome. Is that his name? Yeah, you can take the top. Wait, that means I get all the cream. Are you okay with that?
00:34:57 Natalia Natchan: I'm totally okay with that. You're looking good. What are you going to do with this? You just put it on the ground.
00:35:11 John Daub: It's cool. I'm going to put it here. Alright, here we go. I'm going to chow down on the top. On the bottom.
00:35:22 Natalia Natchan: Oh, you already started! I didn't mean to hurry.
00:35:25 John Daub: It's alright, alright. How is it?
00:35:31 Natalia Natchan: Wait, wait, wait. I got to do it like Daphne did. Here we go. Take two. I'm going to do it like Daphne did. It's so good!
00:35:41 John Daub: And then it's supposed to be written here. You can fix that in editing later, right? You've done this before, haven't you? This isn't your first time.
00:35:52 Natalia Natchan: Well, well. Okay, your turn. Alright. I'm just going to huff it down. That's cool. Oh, it's so good. I don't know if you put enough cream in there. I think it's a little more than I would agree.
00:36:11 John Daub: Oh, wow! It's like cream in your nose. It's a really... It's really good. The cream is fresh. I think they might have used instant coffee. I guess that's how you use instant coffee. They mix it in with the cream. It's really good. This tastes like the melon bread. Like top. Like melon pop. Yum.
00:36:44 Natalia Natchan: Is it weird that I take off the crust of melon bread and just eat that? Because that's hard.
00:36:52 John Daub: You only have to eat it. It was like 400 yen, right?
00:36:58 Natalia Natchan: Yeah. Did you want something?
00:37:02 John Daub: Umm... A million dollars.
00:37:07 Natalia Natchan: That's not going to happen. Did you want any more sweets?
00:37:11 John Daub: I am so jealous right now. Are you serious? What would make you to the next level of happiness?
00:37:19 Natalia Natchan: Warm. Warm? Warm hands and toes.
00:37:23 John Daub: I lost mine. It is pretty cold. Do you want a coffee?
00:37:28 Natalia Natchan: That sounds nice.
00:37:32 John Daub: So, we're at 38 minutes in this live stream. Wait, it's already past 38 minutes? Wow. Time goes by when you're having fun. Yeah, this is where we started. We're going to Tokyo Tower in the distance. Natchan, one more time. She's a YouTuber. She has a YouTube channel. I put the name in the description. Natchan. Natchan English?
00:37:59 Natalia Natchan: Natchan English. Natchan English.
00:38:02 John Daub: We're going to do another live stream when the Osmo is in better shape. Probably going to have to buy a new one. I don't know. This Osmo survived hitchhiking across the country. It survived a lot of travel. So, it looks like DJI's Osmo has met its match. Which is me looking at it.
00:38:24 Natalia Natchan: Yeah, it was funny. It was working fine until I let you hold it. I warned you!
00:38:29 John Daub: Sorry. Men, they just don't listen. No. So, we have Starbucks, Tully's, and Honolulu Coffee. What's your pleasure?
00:38:40 Natalia Natchan: Why don't we try one of the new Starbucks drinks? Don't they have Christmas drinks?
00:38:45 John Daub: Okay. I'm down with that. We're going Commando without the Osmo. So, it's going to be a little bit shakier.
00:39:01 Natalia Natchan: Did we get run over? No. That's for next time.
00:39:05 John Daub: The last live stream has been announced. I shall be run over by a car. But you can't tell! How do I do the thumbnail for that?
00:39:16 Natalia Natchan: One of us has to go first. It's getting a little dark. Look at this picture. What do you think? Sexy? Hot?
00:39:28 John Daub: Woman with piece of meat? I'm not a real vegan. Is that what she says? That's what her eyes tell me. This eye says I'm going to kill everybody.
00:39:41 Natalia Natchan: Oh yeah. It's saying this food is not good enough. I asked for more expensive cuisine. This food is not good enough. I asked for more expensive cuisine. Screw you humans. I will dominate.
00:39:57 John Daub: Yes! Nothing like a big chunk of meat. And a very skinny girl holding a big chunk of meat. You don't see that very often. Especially after battle. It's like a scene from Braveheart.
00:40:08 Natalia Natchan: I don't know. I used to work in 109. It was pretty intense. Only for 6 months. Wow. I think it was a little more intense than Braveheart. Especially in the summer sales. They had Halloween campaigns where all the girls would be like... Oh! Here we are.
00:40:26 John Daub: Boom! Sell it! Sell it! Done! Let's go in and get a coffee. You want something hot, right?
00:40:33 Natalia Natchan: You know, it's a little hot outside today so I'm contemplating. But I think I'm going to go with hot drinks.
00:40:38 John Daub: Well, you have natural air conditioning. Alright, let's go get a coffee. Be careful. Be quiet. Starbucks in the US is so much different than this one.
00:40:52 Natalia Natchan: Oh, okay. Yeah, order anything that you want. Let me get your coffee this time.
00:40:55 John Daub: No! Don't be silly. We got super chat from Tyler. Thank you, Tyler! That's my brother's name. Konnichiwa. Uh... Oh, wait! Christmas drinks are also sold out?
00:41:13 Natalia Natchan: Yes, they're limited to Christmas. Oh, so you can get this one and this one. Oh, just this one? Gingerbread latte. And this one is limited to this one. Matcha white. Which one do you want?
00:41:26 John Daub: Gingerbread latte? What do you think? Maybe matcha?
00:41:35 Natalia Natchan: Maybe I should just go with the matcha latte. Matcha latte? Matcha latte size? I'll get the whole one. Oh, you're making it with soy milk?
00:41:44 John Daub: Yes. I'll get the gingerbread latte, tall size. Here you go. Thank you! 240 yen? Did you try the granola? The granola frappuccino?
00:42:02 Natalia Natchan: No. That was really intense, but I was quite in the mix. Oh, 1040 yen!
00:42:12 John Daub: Not enough. This one is 150 yen. Shall I pull? No. We're good. Here you go. Thank you. Do you have a side dish tonight?
00:42:37 Natalia Natchan: No. Here you go. Thank you. Itadakimasu. What should I do?
00:42:46 John Daub: Oh, you can sit here. Haha. I like to play Christmas music. Where should I sit?
00:42:59 Natalia Natchan: I don't know. I'm trying to think what... I don't have one of those selfie stick stands.
00:43:06 John Daub: I have a tripod without the selfie stick stand. A tripod without the selfie stick stand? Yeah. I still got cream? Okay, we're good. Oh, do you have the Osmo?
00:43:25 Natalia Natchan: I threw it in the garbage.
00:43:27 John Daub: Oh, I threw it in my purse. It's pretty much the same difference. Thank you, Lisa. I have a tripod and I have this. I think maybe I can balance it. Why don't you just put it on the table?
00:43:44 Natalia Natchan: That's alright. Do you think they called our number?
00:43:49 John Daub: Good question. I'm gonna fix this. And we have a gingerbread latte. Alright. I hope this music isn't copyrighted as well. It's a pain in the neck to try to get copyrighted music out and it's inadvertently put into the livestreams. Oh, this doesn't work very well.
00:44:28 John Daub: Yeah, Natchan is a YouTuber. She's not... We're not dating or anything like that. Just a friend. Somebody that I know. Did you guys get your Christmas bonus? No? Natalia Natchan channel. Yeah, that's her Japanese channel. She has an English one as well. Jennifer... I think I might meet Jennifer on Monday. So... Yeah, there's gonna be a Jennifer livestream coming.
00:44:56 Natalia Natchan: Oh, you got it! Okay. Nice. I'm not giving you these back because they're my hand warmers now.
00:45:07 John Daub: I can't do it. I can't balance it. So... You know what? I know you love this angle. I know you love this angle. 480 of you. So... Why don't we take turns holding it?
00:45:26 Natalia Natchan: That's the smart idea. How'd you get so smart, Natalia?
00:45:34 John Daub: Um...well... Tokyo streets. These mean Tokyo streets. Alright, why don't you have a drag on your... What did you get?
00:45:40 Natalia Natchan: The matcha white. Matcha? Oh wow. With extra sugar. I think it's got like white chocolate in it.
00:45:50 John Daub: That's the only way to go. The other day me and my friend were saying we need to stay away from sweets and then we went out by Starbucks to get a coffee and they gave us a sample of the matcha white and we were like...
00:45:59 Natalia Natchan: The good stuff. Just put it in our hands. They dripped the syrup. Wow. This is a claim. Just one drop. I think it adds to the jewelry though, the design. Very nice.
00:46:15 John Daub: What did we get? Alright. What did you get? Gingerbread? Gingerbread. Oh wow. How is it?
00:46:29 Natalia Natchan: I'm not gonna do that again. You're gonna sing out loud? Do it! No, no, no. It's really good. Good. Tastes like c***.
00:46:37 John Daub: Alright. It's always good. So, I'll try it. Oh my god, this looks so festive. Really? Snap. Oh. The f***. It's gingerbread latte. I mean, you guys know what that tastes like, right?
00:46:59 Natalia Natchan: Have you had gingerbread latte before? This looks so cute with the Christmas decorations behind you. Ginger is good for the immune system.
00:47:11 John Daub: I don't think it's real ginger. Don't tell him that.
00:47:13 Natalia Natchan: I don't think it's real. Well, Starbucks advertising is not gonna be happy.
00:47:22 John Daub: That's alright. They told their secret. Alright, well thanks everybody. Anything you want to plug with your channel?
00:47:31 Natalia Natchan: Well... If you guys are interested in seeing what my life is like in Japan, I also eat a lot of stuff. I do some music too, if you guys are interested in seeing that. You're a singer?
00:47:39 John Daub: Yes. Dancer?
00:47:41 Natalia Natchan: Not so much. No. I DJ'd for a while, so I can do this whole thing, but... Cool. I'm not a vegetable dancer. But I sing, and I do covers, and I do YouTube, and I eat stuff. And I have an Instagram too. So if you type in Natalia Natchan on SoundCloud, Instagram, or YouTube, it should come up.
00:47:57 John Daub: Pretty nice. And if it doesn't, then there must be something wrong with your wine. Oh my. Well thanks for joining us on this livestream. Just bomb... Boom! It was pretty epic. Didn't imagine it. So, there you go. Christmas in Azabu Juban. A little walkthrough. Some food, some adventure, some technical problems. But, in all, we had a lot of fun, and I hope that you did too. I was glad to bring you on this livestream. Sorry about yesterday. We had copyright problems with the Disney music. Probably going to have copyrights with the... With the... With the Starbucks Christmas music. But, this is the season of giving. And I appreciate this show being sponsored by Tyler. Thank you very much for... Thank you very much for the wonderful Super Chats. It's going to help pay for the new Osmo that I'm getting tomorrow. Because I need... I need this. And it died today. So, it's time to get a new one. Alright, see you everybody.
