Overview

In this live stream from March 9, 2018, John Daub takes viewers on an evening scooter adventure through Shinjuku, Tokyo's most iconic nightlife district. Riding on the back of Peter von Gomm's Vespa GS250, John guides viewers through the neon-lit streets of Kabukicho, past Shinjuku Station's multiple exits, and around one of the world's busiest transportation hubs. Along the way, John shares personal stories about his decades of experience in Tokyo, points out filming locations from movies like Lost in Translation and the Fast and Furious franchise, and demonstrates the challenges and rewards of live streaming from a moving scooter at night. Timeline / Chapters

00:00–05:00 — Opening at the Shinjuku Pedestrian Crossing John opens the stream at Tokyo's most famous intersection, introducing Peter von Gomm waiting nearby. He explains the plan for the evening: a scooter ride around Shinjuku followed by a transition to Peter's channel for Part 2. John showcases the new LED light accessory for his gimbal, a gift from superchat donations.

05:00–10:00 — Preparations and Gear Setup Peter mounts his Vespa GS250 while John helps adjust the helmet and gear. John reveals his DIY hands-free smartphone mounting system with a magnet sheet for shooting while riding. Discussion of superchats, including a gift of Monster energy drink from Gretchen.

10:00–15:00 — Beginning the Shinjuku Circuit The pair begins riding, heading from the pedestrian crossing into the streets of Kabukicho. John narrates the area's history and points out landmarks including Shidax karaoke, Mr. Donuts, and the Dog and Cat Cafe. They discuss riding in Hokkaido versus Tokyo.

15:00–20:00 — Main Street to East Exit Riding down Shinjuku's main commercial drag, they pass Marui department store, Big Camera electronics shop, and Isetan. John comments on the department stores serving as "cool oases" during humid summer months. A police officer and koban (police box) are spotted.

20:00–25:00 — East Side to South Exit Heading toward Shinjuku Sanchome and the south exit, John shares memories of the area's appearance in Lost in Translation. They pass new London-style taxi cabs and continue circling the station.

25:00–30:00 — South Exit and Station Tour The south exit comes into view with Lumine department store. John mentions his previous New Amman stream and notes they've circled Shinjuku Station twice. Discussion of lane splitting legality in Japan and Tokyo Metropolitan Building's free observation deck.

30:00–35:00 — West Side and Kabukicho Return Riding past the west exit, John points out Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane yakitori alley) and Yodobashi Camera. The famous Godzilla sign in Kabukicho appears. John tells a vivid story about witnessing what appeared to be a Yakuza boss with bodyguards during his early days in Japan.

35:00–40:00 — Complete Circle and Parking They complete a full circuit around Shinjuku Station. John identifies the Park Hyatt hotel. They attempt to find parking for the Vespa, with humorous complications involving a parking rack that requires 500 yen to unlock.

40:00–45:00 — Parking Lot and Stream Transition Prep The parking situation becomes complicated when someone else had used the machine. Peter and John troubleshoot the parking payment and prepare to transition the stream to Peter's channel. John demonstrates the ZuiZhan Smooth Q gimbal and helps Peter set up his own live stream for the first time.

45:00–50:00 — Peter's First Live Stream Setup John assists Peter with setting up his first YouTube live stream, including titling it "Shinjuku Ramen Night Out." They discuss YouTube monetization requirements (4,000 watch hours) and Peter's need for support. John gives Peter the LED light as a gift from superchat donations.

50:00–55:00 — Technical Difficulties Despite preparation, Peter's live stream fails to connect properly. John helps troubleshoot, suggesting closing other apps, turning off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The frustration is handled with humor as John explains this is part of the live streaming experience.

55:00–65:58 — Stream Conclusion John wraps up the stream, promising to continue on Peter's channel. Peter walks through Shinjuku solo briefly as the stream ends. The final words are "He looks lost."

Japan Travel Tips

  • Getting around Shinjuku by scooter/motorbike: Rental options exist in Tokyo through Japan Bike Rentals and similar services. Peter owns his Vespa GS250 personally. Be aware that lane splitting is legal in Japan, making two-wheeled transport efficient for navigating heavy traffic.
  • Friday nights in Shinjuku: Known as Hanakin (TGIF), Friday nights are extremely lively. Expect large crowds, especially around Kabukicho and Shinjuku Station.
  • Navigating Shinjuku Station: With multiple lines and exits, the station can be disorienting. Major meeting points include Studio Alta (big TV screen) and in front of the South Exit near where the Gap used to be.
  • Shinjuku on a budget: Parking costs around 500 yen per session at public racks. The area has diverse dining options from upscale department store restaurants to cheap yakitori stands in Omoide Yokocho.
  • Seasonal considerations: Early March is cold at night. John notes Tokyo summers are extremely humid—the air conditioning from department stores blowing into the streets provides temporary relief.
  • Free attractions: Tokyo Metropolitan Building (City Hall) near Shinjuku Station has a free observation deck with panoramic city views.

Japanese Language & Culture Notes

  • Hanakin (花金): Colloquial term for Friday night, combining "flower" (hana) and "Friday" (kin), referring to the celebratory feeling of the end of the work week.
  • Kabukicho (歌舞伎町): Originally planned as a theater district inspired by kabuki, it evolved into Tokyo's most famous entertainment and nightlife area. Despite its reputation, visitors report feeling safe walking the streets.
  • Koban (交番): Small police boxes found throughout Japan, staffed by officers who assist with directions, lost property, and general community policing.
  • Yakuza awareness: John recounts the traditional etiquette of not asking directly whether someone is Yakuza—"If you ever see it, don't ask them if they are." The organized crime groups primarily deal with each other, and foreigners are generally left alone.
  • Department store culture: Japanese department stores often sit atop train stations and serve as major commercial hubs. The Keio and Odakyu lines are private railways not covered by the JR Pass.
  • Meeting point customs: Studio Alta's large TV screen serves as a well-known landmark for meeting friends in Shinjuku, alongside the south exit stairs.

Food & Drink Guide

  • Mega Shaki (メガサキー): Energy drink Peter consumes before the ride, noted for its powerful caffeine content. Not commonly found outside Japan.
  • Monster Energy: Energy drink gifted by superchatter Gretchen, delivered as a practical gift during the stream.
  • Mr. Donuts (ミスタードーナツ): Legendary late-night donut and coffee spot in Shinjuku, open until the first train. A local institution for decades.
  • Ramen (ラーメン): The planned meal for Part 2 of the stream on Peter's channel. Shinjuku is renowned for its diverse ramen shops, from upscale tsukemen establishments to humble yakitori alleys like Omoide Yokocho.
  • Shidax (シダックス): Large karaoke chain with locations throughout Japan, including prominent spots in Shinjuku.

People

  • John Daub: The host and primary narrator. An American who has lived in Japan for over 30 years, he provides historical context, personal anecdotes, and cultural commentary throughout the stream. His warm, conversational style engages viewers while guiding them through Shinjuku's nighttime landscape.

  • Peter von Gomm (PVG): John's friend and fellow American living in Japan. He serves as the driver of the Vespa GS250 throughout the stream. This marks his first attempt at live streaming on his own YouTube channel. He is working toward YouTube monetization, needing 4,000 watch hours, and John actively supports his channel growth.

  • Vaughn/Superchatters: Multiple viewers contribute through superchats, including Nosh (who serves as a moderator during the stream) and Gretchen from Arizona (who sends Monster energy drink). John thanks Byron and others by name throughout the stream.

Key Takeaways

  1. Shinjuku is a complete ecosystem: The district encompasses everything from corporate office towers and department stores to entertainment districts and hidden food alleys—all connected by one of the world's busiest train stations.

  2. Scooter culture in Tokyo: Two-wheeled transport is practical for navigating Tokyo's crowded streets, and lane splitting is legal. Equipment like gimbals with LED lights enable high-quality mobile filming even at night.

  3. YouTube community support: John actively promotes Peter's channel and uses his platform to help friends build their own audiences, demonstrating the collaborative nature of the YouTube creator community.

  4. Live streaming requires flexibility: Technical difficulties (connectivity issues, app conflicts, parking complications) are part of the live streaming experience. Adapting on the fly is essential.

  5. Shinjuku's cinematic legacy: The area's neon-lit streets have served as filming locations for international productions including Lost in Translation, Fast and Furious, and numerous video games, cementing its status as a global icon.

00:20 John Daub: Hey everybody, so this is the Shinjuku pedestrian crossing. It's very famous. It's a place where a lot of people are taking pictures, Hollywood movies use this scene of Tokyo to show you what the city is like. You can see the Chuo Line and the Yamanote Line going by in the distance. It's a pretty impressive place and that down there is Kabukicho. And Kabukicho is sort of the hub of night life here in Tokyo. One of the hubs anyways. And that's the Chuo Line going by and all those bright lights. And Peter is just down the street. He's going to be meeting me over there in a minute. I just wanted to show you this before we started. There's a lot of photographers here that are taking pictures. Hello.

01:09 John Daub: This is Tokyo's central business district. Sort of central. This is Shinjuku. And Tokyo is a big city with lots of hubs. This is one of them. Peter is down there with the street. Hey Scooter, I see him. Oh, you can't see him yet, but he's down there. So we're going to go over to him. And my plan today is... Oh, there's the Docomo Tower. Cool. You see it? That's the Docomo Tower. It's got a big clock on it. So I always know to be on time.

01:41 John Daub: If you look there, Peter had to use the restroom before we started. So we were a little bit late. That's okay. Always go before you start a live stream because you never know how long it's going to be.

01:55 John Daub: But, Shinjuku is a place that I used to come to a lot more, but now I'm actually, because of the show, away a lot. Traveling to different places all around Japan. And it's nice to be back on a Friday night of all nights. Friday night is called, we say TGIF. Thank goodness it's Friday. We say Hanakin. So it's Hanakin. And there's Peter for some Hanakin action. You see him down there?

02:20 Peter von Gomm: Right.

02:21 John Daub: We're going to be riding that thing. Oh, he's trying to act cool now. That's Peter. Hahaha! Alright, very cool. Alright, let's get this thing going. I like these scooter rides. We've been trying... I've been trying to do them more. By the way, I have a light, so hopefully we can get brighter shots today. It's part of the gimbal, which is pretty cool. It's very cool because I was shooting in the dark when we were... how do I get down there? I was shooting in the dark at Tokyo Tower a couple of days ago and I... those shots they probably wouldn't be usable if I was gonna make a video out of it for the main channel. But now with this light, it's pretty convenient. Alright, we're going down. We're going down street level. Mary is... I sense his presence. Just around the corner... the man with the red scooter today. PVG. You like the light, huh? It's new.

03:35 Peter von Gomm: Looking swanky.

03:36 John Daub: I see you waxed you waxed her waxed on and waxed off that it's the same.

03:40 Peter von Gomm: Same kind of lighting in the cosmetics counter.

03:41 John Daub: Oh, yeah, I have one of these lights here for but it's pretty cool. Right, you can put it into the USB port on the... I got I got you one. That's what your president said. I got Peter present.

03:58 Peter von Gomm: I'll turn it back on.

04:00 John Daub: Yeah. Okay, what are you looking for?

04:07 Peter von Gomm: Oh, man. No, I'm looking for... oh you got you get the light. I streamed on yeah. To do that repetitive laughing again that that unending... then you laugh and then again. That's the live stream.

04:23 John Daub: I got actually I got you one of these. Let's do the same gimbal, right?

04:28 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, I do you do you can so I get one for you.

04:35 John Daub: Yep. You bought two.

04:36 Peter von Gomm: I bought two one for you.

04:37 John Daub: Chats what do they cost?

04:38 Peter von Gomm: $100.

04:40 John Daub: No, they didn't lose. Well, I mean they're not, they're not, they're more than a dollar. What do you want? Alright. They're touch sensitive. That's great. That's really nice. And two levels of brightness. Yeah, two levels of brightness, touch sensitive. Just like you and me. Two levels of brightness. And you're very sensitive.

04:54 John Daub: Alright, so what's the plan? What are you drinking? Sports drink?

04:59 Peter von Gomm: It's a Mega Shaki.

05:00 John Daub: Mega Shaki. So you're ready for a drive through Shinjuku.

05:10 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

05:11 John Daub: Very cool. So, Mai, we have, you just got the, what is that scooter? One more time for everybody seeing this for the first time.

05:15 Peter von Gomm: This is a Vespa. Vespa GS250. 250.

05:26 John Daub: 250, okay. You want to turn that down so we get the echo. I'm gonna fit in the battery. Yes. By the way, this is a scooter. Did you, uh, tell these kind folks what's... What did I tell them? ...in place later?

05:34 John Daub: Oh! So Peter has his own YouTube channel, right? I put a link in the description, and uh... Do you want me to tell them now? Why not? Oh yeah, I'll tell them now. So they can run out and tell all their neighbors to tune in. You're gonna tell your neighbors, huh? So Peter, what we're gonna do is I'm gonna take you around. We're gonna take you around the scooter and then when we finish we're gonna have a Part 2 to this livestream. It's gonna continue on Peter's channel. Um, the the live stream with his gimbal, right?

06:01 Peter von Gomm: Right.

06:01 John Daub: I'm going to give you the light. You want to give it the light now?

06:03 Peter von Gomm: Sure.

06:04 John Daub: Okay, I'm going to give him the light now. And we're going to start with Peter's stream and we're going to go out and get some ramen or something.

06:10 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

06:11 John Daub: So don't you go anywhere. So don't you go. Hold this for a second.

06:13 Peter von Gomm: Okay. I got to warm up. I'm so nervous about tonight. Because this is like... Wait a minute. Why is the light face... How does that work?

06:22 John Daub: Oh, okay. It's facing me now. How do we turn it around? Anyhow, I've got the street light. Shinjuku street lights. Guys, you never... with a lack of light when you're in Shinjuku. It's just... it's so illuminated.

06:35 John Daub: So, how are you guys doing? Everybody from Colorado.

06:41 Peter von Gomm: Nice. My uncle and cousins are from Colorado.

06:44 John Daub: Crystal Springs. Here you are.

06:48 Peter von Gomm: Oh, thank you.

06:49 John Daub: There you go. Made in China.

06:51 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, there it is.

06:52 John Daub: That's the light that I have. So is this mine to keep?

06:55 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, you can keep it.

06:57 John Daub: It's because we get a lot of super chats and I think it's good to give back. You help the channel. I mean, it wasn't that expensive, actually. It's the same one as that?

07:06 Peter von Gomm: It's the same one.

07:07 John Daub: Well, it's worked brilliantly. It's touch sensitive and it's got a diffuser on it. It's very nice. And it plugs into the USB of this Smooth Q gimbal. So, it's pretty nice. Sweet, sweet.

07:17 John Daub: All right, let's get this thing rolling. We got 490 people waiting for you.

07:22 Peter von Gomm: Right now?

07:23 John Daub: Well, they're waiting for you. I hope this thing starts.

07:30 John Daub: Oh, sorry. I remember telling you about my... So, I have been kind of tinkering around with some ideas. I want to do a live stream on the scooter. Lots of people have been asking.

07:41 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

07:42 John Daub: But it's just too jittery. I've tried several things. So, I'm thinking about trying a helmet thing. But I made this today. Don't laugh.

07:54 Peter von Gomm: What?

07:55 John Daub: How am I not supposed to laugh? It's hilarious. But it works.

07:59 Peter von Gomm: You made it.

08:00 John Daub: It's DIY. It's so cheeseball. But it works. I put a... what do you call it? Magnet sheet on the back of the case. iPhone case. And this, I hang it around my neck. And it just connects on there.

08:13 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

08:14 John Daub: And I hang it around my neck. It looked like a total douchebag. But then I walk around. And now you can do selfie and stuff. Wow. Anyhow, we'll get into that later. Can you buckle my chin strap? I can't do it with one hand. Or hold the camera?

08:25 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

08:26 John Daub: One or the other. I got it. All right. So, we're getting ready. Hold on. Just hold it for a second. So, we're getting ready. I have the... I got a small head.

08:37 Peter von Gomm: No, thanks, Vaughn.

08:38 John Daub: Peter will... That pays for Peter's light. Compliments of Vaughn.

08:44 Peter von Gomm: Is that Vaughn the chick?

08:45 John Daub: Hey, now. That's Vaughn the lady. Vaughn the lady. I'm kidding. She knows I'm kidding. Somebody called me rude. And look at you, man. Don't be rude. Remember, we thought Vaughn... You know the deal. You thought you were a... One viewer got angry at me because they said, I'm always rude. I never let the guests go first. And I never open... I never open the door for ladies.

09:05 Peter von Gomm: Well, you're from New York.

09:06 John Daub: I'm... Well, it's different when you're holding the camera. You have to go first sometimes. No offense to you New Yorkers. You're charming and all, but... How does this go? Should I... Ladies first. Can I tighten it or... Let's see.

09:19 Peter von Gomm: That's okay.

09:19 John Daub: All right. Did you get a haircut, by the way?

09:21 Peter von Gomm: I did.

09:21 John Daub: That looks good. You look fresh.

09:23 Peter von Gomm: Really?

09:24 John Daub: Yeah. That's very kind of you, sir. All right. Fresh John is going onto the bike.

09:29 Peter von Gomm: The Freshman. The Vespa.

09:31 John Daub: Where are we? Where are we? Yeah, we better... We're ten minutes in. We got to get... Can I finish my... What do you call this again?

09:38 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, down it. Mega Shaggy.

09:40 John Daub: Mega Shaggy. Chug it. Chug it. Mega Shaggy.

09:44 Peter von Gomm: Mega Chug.

09:45 John Daub: Do it.

09:47 Peter von Gomm: Nice.

09:49 John Daub: Very nice. All right. Thank you, Byron. Shaggy to the system. And... Oh, there's the cocoon. Spoiler alert. That's the cocoon. The Shinjuku cocoon. We're going by that place as well later. Later. At the end. We're coming right back here because that's how this live stream is going to roll.

10:04 John Daub: I... We don't know if we need the light for this.

10:07 Peter von Gomm: Not for the ride, no.

10:08 John Daub: Not for the ride? Maybe not. Maybe... Try it.

10:10 Peter von Gomm: All right. I'll bring it with me.

10:11 John Daub: Yeah. All right. This is a... It's pretty cool, right? This light.

10:17 John Daub: All right. Let's get on.

10:19 Peter von Gomm: Should I get on first?

10:21 John Daub: No.

10:22 Peter von Gomm: No?

10:22 John Daub: Dumb and dumber.

10:25 Peter von Gomm: Well, just dumb and intelligent.

10:27 John Daub: That would be one of us. You guys can pick. Get on the horse.

10:32 Peter von Gomm: All right. Get on the horse. Thank you, Andy.

10:36 John Daub: You got your foot pads here, so... All right. Put your foot...

10:39 Peter von Gomm: Pads where?

10:40 John Daub: Here. Oh, here. Yeah, here.

10:42 John Daub: Okay. Put your foot... Can you, like, hold... What's your... Oh, you're warm.

10:48 Peter von Gomm: Uh... I got my backpack on.

10:51 John Daub: All right. All right. Put... Why don't I put it before?

10:53 Peter von Gomm: The backpack?

10:55 John Daub: Yeah. Are you sure?

10:56 Peter von Gomm: Well, because otherwise... Well, yeah. I'm hitting against the wall.

11:00 John Daub: What? John, hey now. Some people know what that means, dude.

11:05 John Daub: All right. Well, does this work? I'm trying.

11:10 John Daub: Do you remember in the movie Dumb and Dumber how they stayed warm?

11:14 Peter von Gomm: Uh...

11:19 John Daub: No. I think he had to use the restroom. And then he said, just let it go, dude. And then when they got to Aspen, they were stuck together.

11:33 John Daub: Does it work?

11:37 Peter von Gomm: I got the camera.

11:39 John Daub: That's what I made the thumbnail with. Let's take a picture. Put one in the back.

11:45 John Daub: You're gonna have to... Well, I can just... Just dismount?

11:48 Peter von Gomm: Oh, dismount?

11:49 John Daub: Yeah.

11:51 Peter von Gomm: Sounds like a gymnast.

11:54 John Daub: Yeah. All right.

11:57 Peter von Gomm: That's a pretty sweet ride.

12:02 John Daub: So, my bag is too big. Oh, you have a bag as well?

12:07 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, mine's lady-sized.

12:10 John Daub: Mine's man-sized.

12:14 John Daub: I've actually been taking pictures from that spot up there on the pedestrian crossing. And I needed my GH5 and a couple of lenses, so...

12:24 Peter von Gomm: This is gonna take forever, isn't it?

12:25 John Daub: No. I have a lot of junk in the trunk. Come on. This is pretty easy.

12:37 John Daub: Okay. Very good. Oh, thank you, Nosh. Tell Peter to pop a wheelie when you get on the road.

12:43 John Daub: Nosh says, pop a wheelie. Is that possible?

12:46 Peter von Gomm: No.

12:48 John Daub: Can we drift? Can we drift? This is a Tokyo drift.

12:51 Peter von Gomm: I think they went through here with the movie, right?

12:55 John Daub: Yeah. If you've seen... Yeah, if you've seen the Fast and Furious, this is one of the areas. I believe that they drove at high speed through because of the lights.

13:03 John Daub: If you play video games, I think there's a lot of the video games that go... that have Tokyo as their course. They go down this road. This is why this is just... This is gonna be a really bad... I don't wanna get demoted. Bad ass. Bad.

13:22 Peter von Gomm: Right, yeah. Bad ass.

13:23 John Daub: Well, it's a family...

13:24 Peter von Gomm: I want a family show.

13:26 John Daub: Family show. Yeah. We got pole position.

13:28 John Daub: Pole position. Pole position. Here?

13:38 Peter von Gomm: Here.

13:39 John Daub: Okay. Alright, we're good? Ready? Alright, we're good. Alright. Make it happen.

13:45 John Daub: Ah! Am I too heavy?

13:47 Peter von Gomm: Try not to...

13:49 John Daub: Yeah. Try not to lean back?

13:50 Peter von Gomm: Try not to put the trunk on the ground.

13:54 John Daub: Alright, don't put the trunk on the ground. Alright.

13:57 John Daub: Alright, there he is. Hey!

14:01 John Daub: So, uh... Is this everybody's first visit to Shinjuku? Raise your hands if you've been to Shinjuku before. I used to work actually just down... Actually, this way. This way. But I used to live down this road two stops away.

14:20 Peter von Gomm: Oh, really?

14:21 John Daub: Yeah. This was ages ago. Nakonosaka way. So it's very... This area is very dear to me.

14:27 Peter von Gomm: Dear?

14:28 John Daub: Like D-E-A-R.

14:30 Peter von Gomm: Oh, okay. Not like...

14:31 John Daub: Dear headlights. Not a dear headlights. Alright. But yeah, I would come here for, um... I'd work in Shinjuku when I first came to Japan. Um, and... Just, yeah, I spent a lot of time in Shinjuku. It's a great... It's a great place. It's always lively.

14:48 Peter von Gomm: Lively.

14:49 John Daub: And especially on Friday and Saturday night. Friday.

14:52 Peter von Gomm: O-M-G.

14:53 John Daub: M-G what?

14:54 Peter von Gomm: I said O-M-G.

14:55 John Daub: Oh my goodness!

14:57 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

14:58 John Daub: Yeah. So... This light is sort of long, isn't it?

15:01 Peter von Gomm: Well... It's a very impatient rider.

15:04 John Daub: Can you have a backseat rider?

15:06 Peter von Gomm: Uh, I think, uh, yeah. Somebody who's always shaking the...

15:10 John Daub: Yeah. That's the other thing. Kind of trying to stay still.

15:12 Peter von Gomm: Oh, sorry.

15:13 John Daub: I know, it's hard for you. Yeah. You know, I have my driver's license too, but I couldn't ride this, right? This is a... Uh, no, it's too big. Oh, here we go. We're going, we're going!

15:30 John Daub: Alright, thank you Mr. Sphinx Canada. I'm glad you could catch the live stream, everybody! It's gonna be awesome! Hopefully... Oh, look! There's a chew line going across! Oh, there's a chew line going across! Oh, there's a chew line going across! Oh, that's so cool! Do you see the chew line? It's so much better on a bike! Bikers do it better.

15:47 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

15:48 John Daub: Alright, when do we start drifting? Can you drift to the left?

15:52 John Daub: Awesome! Wow!

15:58 John Daub: Wow, it's a mass TV! That's the, uh, Yamada Denki lobby. We're going underneath the Yamanote Line right now. I can hear the train.

16:09 John Daub: We've come up so far. Gotta watch...

16:37 John Daub: It's so bright in here! Alright, well look at this new karaoke spot. Shidax.

16:49 Peter von Gomm: Oh, that's a Shidax.

16:50 John Daub: That's a big one.

16:53 John Daub: Yeah. A lot of people like to do karaoke, including my neighbor, Mr. Seichi. He's 97. He likes karaoke.

17:01 Peter von Gomm: What does he like to sing?

17:02 John Daub: I don't think he goes to Shidax, though. I think he goes to his house. He sings at home. He likes to have the local snack near his home.

17:09 Peter von Gomm: Yeah. Oh, that's at Mr. Donuts.

17:10 John Daub: That's been here for decades, that Mr. Donuts. It's where you sit there and get coffee and donuts until the first train after Hostess Clubbing in Kabukicho.

17:21 Peter von Gomm: I wouldn't know about that.

17:22 John Daub: You wouldn't know about that?

17:24 Peter von Gomm: No. I would.

17:26 John Daub: So that's why you need to move.

17:28 Peter von Gomm: Hey, now.

17:29 John Daub: What? Be kind. Please rewind. So that's where we came from. We went pretty fast through there. Couldn't you have gone a little slower?

17:37 Peter von Gomm: Well, we're going to go around again.

17:38 John Daub: Are we going to go around again?

17:40 Peter von Gomm: Alright, this is the way we're doing.

17:41 John Daub: Alright, Petey's going. The wind's pretty strong.

17:47 Peter von Gomm: Oh, this is as close as we've ever been.

17:55 John Daub: I'm trying not to move.

18:09 John Daub: Starbucks. I think we're going to need something harder after this.

18:17 John Daub: It's pretty neat to be able to stream at night. I think it's a different... The city completely changes when the lights go down, especially in this area. This is Shinjuku's Kabukicho, kind of in the back of Shinjuku Station. Now we're going to make a right and go up the main street that goes past Shinjuku Station. Is that Hashiguchi, right? Towards Shinjuku Sanchome. That's right. This is the... Straight ahead is Shinjuku Gyoen, the Shinjuku Park.

18:46 John Daub: It's early at around 4pm. There's Shinjuku Sanchome, which is a subway station. It's a subway station. It's a subway Shinjuku line and the Madonouchi line. There's a subway on the left, so kind of keep it 50 feet safe. Keep it to your right so you don't see it.

19:04 John Daub: Alright, I'll keep it to my right. There's the Docomo Tower. So it's pretty easy to ride a bike around here, Peter.

19:10 Peter von Gomm: To rent a motorcycle?

19:12 John Daub: Yeah. Yeah, there are rental places in Tokyo. Yeah, check Japan Bike Rentals and there's other...

19:20 John Daub: But I own my own bike, so I don't... Kind of worrying to be on the back in this area.

19:28 John Daub: What's this place?

19:29 Peter von Gomm: Cat Cafe.

19:30 John Daub: Dog and Cat Cafe. Is that new?

19:33 Peter von Gomm: I think so. I've never...

19:34 John Daub: Yeah, this is a new dog and cat cafe. Looks clean for once. There's an animal hospital in the top floor. There's an animal hospital. Do you see that? That hotel. It's hard to see the... I can't control the exposure on it, but... And you can get some trim there as well. Do you go to the barber?

19:51 Peter von Gomm: Ever?

19:52 John Daub: I'm just asking, do you go to the barber shop? Or can you do it yourself? Does somebody... Do you guys hear somebody talking? Is somebody talking? I'm just kidding. All right, here we go down the main street. This is Marui on the left side. Big camera on the... Big Crow is down here, which is a big shop that opened up about, what, about eight years ago.

20:14 John Daub: This is one I see a lot of tourists in there. This is the main drag down Shibuya... Shinjuku. You can see up there. Sorry, I'm gonna go on this side.

20:27 John Daub: There's a sign. Shinjuku... Oh, that's the... Yeah, Higashi. Higashi Guchi. Shinjuku's east exit. All right, thank you.

20:35 John Daub: Gretchen writes... Gretchen from... Gretchen from Arizona writes he wanted to see John on a scooter. Peter says, don't... Don't drop John. Where's the other shoe?

20:45 John Daub: Gretchen says, don't drop John.

20:49 Peter von Gomm: I'll try not to, Gretchen.

20:52 John Daub: Try? He's pretty... He's doing a good... Won't. He's doing a good job as a backseat rider so far. I am a backseat driver... rider.

21:01 Peter von Gomm: I sling insults from the back.

21:03 John Daub: Ten minutes into the stream. They're all in good fun. It's nice to be able to share. This is going down the... Straight down the Shinjuku's main drag... Oh, there's a police officer. So, that's pretty interesting. Okay, I got the camera now. Whoa, did you see that limo?

21:23 Peter von Gomm: No.

21:25 John Daub: Oh, there's a koban right there. All right. All right, switch hands. It's pretty cool though. You can see how bright the lights are going down towards the station. It gets brighter and brighter. And these lights, they were famous. They were shown in the Sofia Coppola movie Lost in Translation. There's a part where Bob is riding in a taxi going through... Or no, the main character is riding in a taxi going through the station. And I believe it was back there in the Kabukicho side.

21:51 Peter von Gomm: But have you seen that movie?

21:52 John Daub: Yeah, a long time ago. A long time ago. I was going to make another comment about the street. With all of these high-end department stores and designer shops, in the summertime when it's so humid in Tokyo, in Shinjuku here, you actually get cooled off walking down the street because they have the doors open and all the air conditioning is blowing out into the street. And it's a cool oasis. But it's kind of sad. People have no idea. It's pretty hot in the summer. People have no idea what it's like in the summer in Tokyo. When they made the Olympics, they have no idea that there's going to be some heat exhaustion and some sweaty people.

22:32 Peter von Gomm: They have no idea.

22:33 John Daub: That's right. Yeah. Here's the Isetan department store over on the corner.

22:38 Peter von Gomm: Oh, right. Yeah, that's Isetan.

22:39 John Daub: That's a very famous one. You see up on the top of the department store, that's the logo for Isetan. You get a lot of Isetan around East Asia. All the way, I've seen them in Bangkok and Jakarta as well, I think. So they got them all over. There's Burberry.

22:56 John Daub: Here we go, kids. Here we go, Peter. Don't drop John.

23:02 Peter von Gomm: There's the ATM I go to.

23:18 John Daub: Oh, there's the...

23:22 Peter von Gomm: Yeah. Yeah, I love seeing it.

23:42 John Daub: What we could do, if you're fancy, we could take a left on one of these side streets. But eh. Then we stick around. We could go to our original plan. I don't even remember what the original plan was.

23:56 John Daub: Well, we're going to go around and then get off and we're going to start your stream. You have your gimbal handy?

24:02 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

24:03 John Daub: So you want to stick with us because we're going to keep live streaming on his channel. So you have your gimbal, right?

24:11 Peter von Gomm: Yeah. Yeah, it's in the...

24:12 John Daub: People can't tolerate shaky video. I got gimbal. You got gimbal?

24:17 Peter von Gomm: I got game and I got gimbal.

24:18 John Daub: All right. And you got light. You got light, dude. So we're going to go over to Peter. Peter's channel. Peter's channel is in the description of this video. You can go over there. We're going to start live streaming over there and we'll give you a heads up. But I have no title for my live stream. I need a title.

24:33 Peter von Gomm: Ramblin' Men of Shinjuku.

24:37 John Daub: Shinjuku done Peter's way. He did it his way. Here we go. Green light. Oh, green light. Okay. Here we go, everybody. Woo. Right?

24:59 John Daub: Show them the big screen.

25:00 John Daub: What? Have you been on the screen? Have you done TV commercials for them?

25:08 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

25:09 John Daub: Oh, you have? All right. Can you pull up? Pull over here for a second? So this is Shinjuku Station. Right there. Right there. Yeah. That's Shinjuku Station behind us. This is Studio Alta, right? This is a big meeting point.

25:25 Peter von Gomm: Right. Right.

25:26 John Daub: Yeah. You can see it up there. Let me zoom in. This guy's in the way. That's all right. I got it. Studio Alta. You got the cherry blossoms on the screen up there coming. That's a big TV screen.

25:41 Peter von Gomm: Right?

25:42 John Daub: Yeah. That's a big TV screen. Yeah. As John said, this is a big meeting spot. In Shinjuku, you often meet in front of Studio Alta or around this area over here, too.

25:51 John Daub: All right. This is the station there. That's Higashiguchi right there. Gretchen bought you some Monster.

26:01 Peter von Gomm: Oh, thank you.

26:02 John Daub: All right.

26:04 John Daub: There's the east exit of Shinjuku right there. Shinjuku Station. You see JR. That's it. And the trains are going by.

26:20 John Daub: Shinjuku has how many train lines?

26:21 Peter von Gomm: I don't know. There's like 10.

26:23 John Daub: Shinjuku Line. Well, JR has about three, right? There's two Chuo lines, right? The Chuo Honsen and the Chuo Line.

26:31 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

26:34 John Daub: There's loads and loads and loads. There's loads of lines. This is one of the more difficult stations to transfer because there's so many stations. There's so many exits. You get lost in here.

26:45 Peter von Gomm: Yeah. Oh, yeah.

26:47 John Daub: Well, we just started the stream. Yeah. We showed you that cool building. There it is up there. Can you see it?

26:51 Peter von Gomm: Oh, yeah.

26:52 John Daub: That's the Cocoon Tower. So we're going back up there to that side. How do we get there? We're going to go with the temperature.

27:00 John Daub: Oh, it's a shame you can't go past that gap on the other side. Because they're making a left at the big camera back there. Back there, there's a big camera. If we take a left, if we go that way, it takes us around to the front of the station. Minami-guchi?

27:17 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

27:17 John Daub: That's what I was thinking of. Can you do that from here? If you want, we have to go back around.

27:22 John Daub: Oh, we got to go back around? Oh, we're almost at 30 minutes now. I don't want to do anything illegal.

27:43 John Daub: John, J-O-H-N with an H. What's your middle name?

27:50 Peter von Gomm: I'm not telling anybody that.

27:54 John Daub: Well, I'm not telling anybody that is pretty long. What nationality? That's where the Robot Restaurant, if you know about it, is deep in the middle of Kabukicho.

28:04 John Daub: So, well, what's that music coming from?

28:08 John Daub: Oh, there's one of those trucks. That's one of those trucks that has a billboard on the back and this is all like monetized. I can't use this music or they're going to monetize it, so keep talking. Keep talking. I'm demonetized by YouTube because I can't control what's in the background. So, anyways, demonetized. Hurry up, taxi driver.

28:30 John Daub: Can you make a left? Are we going left or right?

28:31 Peter von Gomm: We're going right.

28:32 John Daub: Are you going right again? You want to go by the Minami, right?

28:34 Peter von Gomm: Okay. Well, can we do that?

28:37 John Daub: All right. Zurich Circuit. We're going to keep this. This is not for mine. This is for you.

28:49 John Daub: Oh, this is cool. All right. We're going through here. Look at the photographer. He's taking a picture of the Yamanote line back there. Pretty cool.

29:01 John Daub: All right. That's okay. I believe it's muffled enough. Now, this is a scene. This is the area that was in Lost in Translation when Bob was going through. I believe when he was taking the taxi going through the city. Yeah. It was like this. So, I'm just going to pan up. It's pretty cool. There's Don Quixote on the right.

29:24 Peter von Gomm: And I'm going to... Yeah. Go ahead. The game billboard up there that's lit up.

29:26 John Daub: Who can name... Not you, John. Who can name what the game is down there?

29:33 Peter von Gomm: Oh, Space Invaders.

29:36 John Daub: Oh, sorry. Oh, there's the Godzilla up there. See it?

29:40 Peter von Gomm: Godzilla?

29:41 John Daub: Oh, there's a giant crab up there.

30:24 John Daub: Billboard trucks are everywhere. Hold on a second, everybody. Right back there. It's hard to control the exposure. There's a fellow biker back there. Do you have a biker sign? You guys waved to each other? You know, like, hey, how you doing?

30:39 Peter von Gomm: No. We do in Hokkaido.

30:41 John Daub: Oh, you do? A biker symbol?

30:43 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, when you... Is it just one finger? Because riding in Hokkaido is just awesome.

30:50 John Daub: It's wide open.

30:51 Peter von Gomm: Oh, yeah.

31:07 John Daub: There's a temple in here.

31:09 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, that's where Sentagai is back in there.

31:11 John Daub: Okay. So, when I first came to Japan, I was here with some friends, new friends, and we went to a restaurant in there. There's like a... There's some little izakayas and stuff. We sat down, and then an entourage came in, some Japanese people, and one guy was clearly the boss.

31:32 Peter von Gomm: I don't think you know where this is going.

31:33 John Daub: So the boss sits down, and there are bodyguards everywhere, and he sits down, and I noticed that some thugs around him are missing their pinkies, and the guy, the boss's wife is there, too. And it was just... I was so fresh in Japan, it was just an amazing thing to see, this underworld experience.

31:56 Peter von Gomm: Underworld.

31:57 John Daub: Then the wife stood up, and then all the security details stood up, and they walked with her over to the shrine, and... The story's pretty long.

32:06 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

32:07 John Daub: Then she came back, and one guy snapped his fingers, and they all stood up and just walked off. Nobody paid anything.

32:21 Peter von Gomm: No, they don't pay. They pay by, they pay by, we didn't hurt you.

32:25 John Daub: Yeah. That's how you pay in the underworld. But it was just like, wow. I mean... Your crazy eyes. Did you talk to him?

32:32 Peter von Gomm: No, no, no, no, no.

32:35 John Daub: But I asked my friends... Did you flash the symbol? I said, is that guy a Yakuza?

32:42 Peter von Gomm: And she was like... Don't say it.

32:46 John Daub: Yeah. If you ever see it, don't ask them if they are. You...

32:52 Peter von Gomm: Yeah. The thing is, they don't... They only mess with other Yakuza. They don't... Especially with foreigners here... They don't even say it around here. They got like, mics all over the city.

32:59 John Daub: Well, you think I'm being facetious? Oh, there's that... The Uniqlo went out of business there, I think. What's the name of this shop?

33:16 Peter von Gomm: Pust.

33:20 John Daub: Incidentally, if you go to the left here, this is... Right now, we're in Shinjuku Sanchome.

33:23 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

33:24 John Daub: If you go to the left, it's Shinjuku Nichome.

33:26 Peter von Gomm: Oh, Nichome. Oh, that's the area. Oh, that's the area with the... The area.

33:34 John Daub: We say transsexual... Sorry. Transgender.

33:37 Peter von Gomm: That too.

33:46 John Daub: Oh, you're going straight this time, right? So, we turned right here last time.

33:54 John Daub: I was going to go by... But it may not be a straight...

33:59 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, let's do South Exit, but...

34:02 John Daub: I thought we were going to turn here. I thought we were going to turn here.

34:05 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

34:06 John Daub: Thank you, Nosh, for moderating. Just fucking squeeze in. Oh, you just squeezed right by that taxi. That's a real narrow... That wasn't a taxi.

34:13 Peter von Gomm: Oh, that's a taxi.

34:15 John Daub: Oh, okay. That was narrow. Let's get the hell out of here.

34:20 John Daub: Okay. Oh, so this goes by South Exit, right there.

34:24 Peter von Gomm: Right.

34:26 John Daub: So, Shinjuku joined the parks right here. You can't even see my head's in the way. Let's just go find this. So, this is the other side of Shinjuku, JR Shinjuku Station. There's Lumine. Lumine. Lumine. Up there in the blue on the top of the department store. That's the South Exit of the station. So, basically, we would have gone around all of Shinjuku Station.

34:53 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

34:54 John Daub: And the greatest part of Shinjuku is walking around. Oh, yeah. You know, in the little alleys and things. Especially over in Kabukicho. Yeah. Which is pretty seedy, but there's some really interesting little izakayas. Getting lost in Kabukicho after midnight is always fun.

35:08 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

35:09 John Daub: And a little scary, but... You're going to be fine. It's Japan. This isn't dangerous, really, so much.

35:20 John Daub: Is there lane splitting in Japan?

35:23 Peter von Gomm: Yes.

35:24 John Daub: I'm sorry. So, we're coming up as the South Exit.

35:33 John Daub: I'm going to... Whoa. Oh, there's... That used to be the Gap. And now the Gap's out of business?

35:40 Peter von Gomm: That used to be the Gap.

35:42 John Daub: That's another meeting point down there. Down the stairs there?

35:45 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

35:46 John Daub: Oh, yeah. There's New Amman. That's what I need. That's where Jennifer and I did a stream. The Shinjuku South Exit Adventure. New Amman, I think.

36:00 Peter von Gomm: It's not New Woman. It's New Amman.

36:05 John Daub: So, we're going to head back to where we started from. Yeah. Sorry about the resolution, guys. We're now going into a different side of the station, which is a lot more busier. It's a lot busier. So, there's a lot of traffic. The resolution might not be very good. I apologize for that. It's more busy. It's more busier.

36:21 Peter von Gomm: It's not more busier.

36:22 John Daub: No, it's just more busy. It's more busy.

36:26 John Daub: So, what's our plan? We're going to go to that...

36:31 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, let's go past the Cocoon Tower and...

36:33 John Daub: Oh, let's go to my parking spot. Go to your... Did you find one?

36:36 Peter von Gomm: I did. I did.

36:37 John Daub: Okay, let's go to the parking spot. Get your gimbal out and we're going to start a second live stream on his channel. Get something to feed John, feed Peter.

36:46 John Daub: Hashtag... Okay, uh... The name of your channel. The name of your channel is just Peter Von Gom and I believe I put a link in the description of this before we started. A live stream is a little bit harder to add in tags and things like this, but you can't put spaces. YouTube limits what you can do. But I believe it's in there. So go over to Peter's channel, subscribe, get the notification. You're going to start the... Oh, you're doing it now?

37:28 John Daub: Somebody's calling your name. I heard D-bag. You know your way around the city pretty well, right?

37:37 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

37:38 John Daub: Oh, do not go between there. That's scary. Imagine two boats like colliding. Two buses.

37:47 John Daub: Oh my. Right in front of us, that's where the Tokyo Metropolitan Building is or City Hall. They have a really nice observation deck that's free. So check it out.

38:00 John Daub: There's the south exit. Thank you, Scotty. We will be feeding John and Peter shortly.

38:17 John Daub: Oh, nice exhaust. I'm loving this. This is Matsumoto's exhaust pipe. That says Matsumoto Nagano.

38:40 John Daub: Oh man, exhaust. High key gases. Loads of restaurants back there. I saw the balloon tower. All right, we're turning here.

38:50 John Daub: Okay, very good. This is a great movie, by the way.

39:02 John Daub: Thanks everybody for the super chat. We're going to use this in Peter's... Here we go. We're going to get some food. All right, right turn.

39:05 John Daub: It's any ride. This is where the... Right turn. There you go. What's the hotel here?

39:12 Peter von Gomm: There's a couple of famous hotels. Most of the famous hotels in Shinjuku are on this side. The Capsa Hotel is on the other side.

39:59 John Daub: Slight detour this second.

40:00 Peter von Gomm: Okay.

40:01 John Daub: Make sure I got the navies that I... Should I get off here?

40:08 Peter von Gomm: No, no, no, no.

40:09 John Daub: We're staying on. So thanks for joining us on this scooter tour of Shinjuku. If you're just tuning in now, we've been at it. I know the resolution might be in and out. This is Shinjuku. Now we're on the Nishiguchi, the west side. Actually, yeah. Actually, we want to go... Where are we? This is Nishiguchi. We were on Higashiguchi and Minamiguchi. We went around the Shinjuku station twice, I believe. We went around the Kabukicho and Sanshome twice and around the south exit once. So we've done a complete circle now. There's the Cocoon Tower we're coming up on. Peter, we're riding Peter's Vespa around Shinjuku for those of us who are joining us right now. Definitely play back this after we're done with this if you want to see the rest of it. We're going to the west of Shinjuku Station. Basically, we've seen everything. This is pretty much the entire area starting off with the most famous pedestrian view that Hollywood likes to add in when they put in scenes of Tokyo. B-cut people. That stuff in there. There's that famous hotel with the slope on it. Is that the Park Hyatt?

40:46 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, I think so.

40:47 John Daub: There's the Cocoon Tower. That's the art building. You going to check your phone?

41:00 John Daub: We're going to check the hotel. Don't show them my code. Okay, sorry. I hope the resolution of this video is a little bit better. I think we started off at 720p and we're going in and out. So you get an idea. The signal is not always really strong around Shinjuku Station, especially the south side. But this area has a lot clearer... Whoa, it's getting windy. It has a lot clearer view. This is the Keio Department Store. It's also where the Keio Shinjuku Station is. There's several Shinjuku Stations.

41:48 John Daub: There's Otakyu. That's the Otakyu Shinjuku Station. There's a big camera above it. We're going right by another entrance. Alright. But yeah, there's a little bit of a roundabout way to get to our parking space. But there's a parking garage we're going down into. I don't think the signal will last in a parking garage. You'd be surprised.

42:30 John Daub: And if I'm not surprised, we'll hear it at the live stream. Yeah, this is the Otakyu line here. This is the Department Store. Each train line has a department store. Keio is right there. They have the Keio Department Store and this is the Otakyu Department Store. And department stores also have the train lines. These are private train lines that don't work on the JR train pass. You can get down to the station. They take you in different directions around the city. Otakyu is... I used to live along the Otakyu line about five... No, 15 years ago, I lived in a place called Honatsugi. I used to take the Otakyu line that way. And the Keio line goes towards... Does that go towards Kichijoji? I forget.

43:50 John Daub: Keio line goes back. I think it goes north of there. I think we can go through here. There's the Uniqlo on this side. There's the Big Kikko, which is the big camera on the Uniqlo. And then there's another one right here.

44:12 John Daub: That's not good. There's the metro. That metro station takes you to the Madara no Uchi. So the south part of... It's the Madara no Uchi. Turn right here. Are you lost?

44:28 Peter von Gomm: It'll be there in one minute. These guys are turning, so I guess we can't... Oh, you can go.

44:36 John Daub: Manolo Vale's following taxis. Yeah, they never get tickets.

44:44 John Daub: Okay. Have you seen those new English taxi cabs that they have? The London-looking cabs are pretty cool. Straight ahead on the left.

44:55 Peter von Gomm: Yep, what's that?

44:56 John Daub: Tokyo has new taxi cabs. Have you seen those? Yeah, the kind of boxy...

44:59 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

45:00 John Daub: They look similar to the old-style British cabs. Yeah, the old-style British cabs that you see around London. They're pretty cool. They're a little bit more compact.

45:19 John Daub: Nosh abroad... Yeah, Nosh abroad, he knows. Nosh knows back there is Omoide Yokochō, which I made a 360 video highlighting the yakitori alley last year. I believe it was last year. That video is on the main channel, and that's just right back there. It's about a... From here, a five-minute walk that way. Yeah, Nosh knows. He'd really could find us walking around. There's Yodobashi Camera through there. That's what I... I used to buy all my equipment there because I have a point card for Yodobashi Camera.

46:24 John Daub: It's very bright in there. So there should be a parking entrance up here, according to Mojave P. I see a P. P for parking. P for Peter. P for P. P for Peta. That's right. Here we go.

46:54 John Daub: All right. Peter's going to go to the parking garage now. This is... We're going back to Shinjuku South exit. So is this it right here?

47:00 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

47:01 John Daub: Oh, there's coffers right there. It's a parade. Parade there are scooter or motorcycle. Oh, wow. They're like patting down people.

47:17 John Daub: So you're going in here?

47:18 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

47:19 John Daub: All right. Parking. It's $3 for 30 minutes.

47:26 John Daub: That's no... Oh, that dude's running. He doesn't look like the bike guy. Bikes are not allowed except for those that are contracted.

47:36 Peter von Gomm: What?

47:37 John Daub: Bikes are not allowed except for those that are contracted.

47:39 Peter von Gomm: Oh, is that so? Excuse me.

47:42 John Daub: This is a normal bike. You can use this. And then... I'll go straight.

48:06 John Daub: You can't park here. Stream goes on. It's a little bit longer. We're going to be after this, when we get off, we're going to be streaming.

49:00 John Daub: Yeah. I heard that you didn't have a monthly planned... Reservation.

50:04 John Daub: You didn't have a plan to park here and you're not allowed to just come there. Even if you are thinly veiled... Wow. Let's face it. I get special privileges.

50:21 Peter von Gomm: You should.

50:22 John Daub: You do have special privileges. Yes, yes. Wherever they put a P, you just claim that as Peter.

50:27 Peter von Gomm: That's right.

50:28 John Daub: Apparently that didn't work at this parking spot, right? Excuse me, sir.

50:35 Peter von Gomm: I'm Peter Von Gomm.

50:38 John Daub: Is that your Paris Bueller?

50:40 Peter von Gomm: Yes. Bueller?

50:44 John Daub: Yes. Bueller. This space has been reserved for me and my family for generations.

50:55 Peter von Gomm: That's the one Cameron did, right?

50:57 John Daub: Cameron?

50:59 Peter von Gomm: Yes.

51:00 John Daub: Who was he imitating? Rooney.

51:05 Peter von Gomm: Rooney.

51:06 John Daub: Oh, yes, Rooney. Rooney was the principal of the school, I believe. Classic movie. All right, here we go.

51:20 John Daub: Well, this is a 100-yen bus for Shin. Everybody, say a prayer that there's a parking space available. Whenever you say a prayer, it makes me a little nervous, Peter.

51:33 Peter von Gomm: Well, because we need to turn at McDonald's.

51:36 John Daub: Turn at Mickey D's? And a parking space here. All right.

51:50 John Daub: There's some bikes over there. So we're right now looking for parking spots. Here's the new cab. That's the new taxi. Oh, that's the new taxi. Do you see it? Right there. That's what I was talking about. Now it's gone.

52:34 John Daub: Okay, I think I see. Oh, there's a bike spot here. Please, please, please, Jesus.

52:47 Peter von Gomm: Oh, is it available?

52:49 John Daub: Oh, yes, there's spaces.

52:51 Peter von Gomm: Oh, there's spaces.

52:52 John Daub: Dude, you did it. Nice one. Peter, three points. How does this work, though?

52:55 Peter von Gomm: Out of plenty.

52:56 John Daub: All right, hold on. You want to get off?

52:58 Peter von Gomm: Hang on, hang on. How does it work?

53:02 John Daub: I don't know. It doesn't seem to lock.

53:19 John Daub: So I guess you can just park here for free, no?

53:24 Peter von Gomm: I don't know.

53:27 John Daub: Really? Yeah.

53:30 John Daub: No, I don't see. I think you got to get a ticket here. I don't have a motorbike, so I don't know the system, but there's a vending machine here. I believe this is where you buy a ticket. Peter. Peter, there's a ticket thing here.

53:49 John Daub: I don't know if this will unlock. Peter, this might unlock it. Dori Jido. Jido Shop.

53:58 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, you know what? I think you got to buy a ticket, and it'll unlock it.

54:05 John Daub: Really?

54:06 Peter von Gomm: I believe so. What do you pay at the end?

54:14 John Daub: Somebody just locked it, and it's causing trouble. Let's see what it says. Number 33, welcome.

54:19 Peter von Gomm: Oh, look, it's got English.

54:21 John Daub: How do you do, sir?

54:27 John Daub: Okay.

54:28 John Daub: 500 yen. So we have to pay 500 yen to unlock it.

54:34 Peter von Gomm: Are you serious?

54:35 John Daub: Yeah. So how did that guy manage without...

54:38 Peter von Gomm: Well, some smart butt, I think, just walked by and plugged it in.

54:43 John Daub: So now, in order for us to park there, it's going to cost 500 yen.

54:49 Peter von Gomm: Oh, this guy didn't even pay. Look.

55:00 John Daub: So let's just chance it.

55:04 Peter von Gomm: I think so.

55:05 John Daub: All right. We're not going to be that long, right?

55:09 Peter von Gomm: I don't know. I've never live streamed before. This is going all night, baby.

55:15 John Daub: You've never live streamed before.

55:18 Peter von Gomm: I actually have an appointment at 7-ish.

55:21 John Daub: 7 a.m.?

55:22 Peter von Gomm: 7-ish.

55:23 John Daub: Perfect. No. It's in 10 minutes.

55:27 Peter von Gomm: Oh.

55:28 John Daub: We're going to kick it.

55:29 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

55:30 John Daub: Okay. What do I need? I need my light.

55:44 John Daub: Get your gimbal.

55:45 Peter von Gomm: I'm so happy about this.

55:46 John Daub: Yeah. Did you show that? Not everybody saw it. Oh, this is my present to you. Yeah. It's a LED light for your gimbal.

56:20 John Daub: Leaving the thug life, right?

56:23 Peter von Gomm: What's that?

56:24 John Daub: This is the thug life. You didn't pay. I'm sorry.

56:33 John Daub: All right. So. Here's my helmet, sir.

56:41 Peter von Gomm: Wow.

56:42 John Daub: Okay. All right. Can you open that up for me?

57:02 John Daub: Yeah. Give me the honors. You get me a bag.

58:01 John Daub: I bought this repeater with your Super Chat, so. He has now a soft light. Yeah. So you can do your live streams with the light now. It's pretty cool. You know, it's not that cold, but it's still cold enough where you need a jacket right now. I think at night, it gets... It's a little bit cold. It gets warm during the day and cold during the nighttime here.

58:34 John Daub: All right. Get some trunk.

59:27 John Daub: Are you going to fix your hair or are you just going to leave it like that?

59:30 Peter von Gomm: I'm getting my hat out from the... That's why I wear it.

59:35 John Daub: It looks bad pretty much.

59:38 Peter von Gomm: You don't need to tell us that.

59:42 John Daub: Oh. The lady's over there. How you doing?

01:00:07 John Daub: So we're going to be doing a... We're going to transfer the stream over to Peta's YouTube channel where... Oh. We're going to be doing a stream of me and my friend's hat. More mayhem will ensue. Here's my hat made from Gorin Brothers, one of my favorite hat companies. Give me a second to... There. Get my gimbal out. Get your gimbal out. All right. There we go. I did get a haircut the other day, so I weigh a couple pounds less than I did before.

01:01:05 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

01:01:06 John Daub: These gimbals are pretty nifty. Oh, let me show you... Show the full word. So you put the light in here. There's a USB port. And you can charge your phone with this, but you could also... I learned, plug a light in there.

01:02:02 John Daub: So... Sweet. Yeah. So Peta has the same gimbal as me. This is the ZuiZhan Smooth Q, right? ZuiZhan. ZuiZhan.

01:02:21 John Daub: Okay. Now, like I said, I have no... I've never done the live stream, so I don't even know how to... I know how to start it, but I have no idea about titling it or... You can change it later. Just basically start something.

01:03:00 John Daub: Okay. So... Which I told you to do before we started this.

01:03:04 Peter von Gomm: Well, I didn't have time.

01:03:05 John Daub: Yeah, I know. Here's my light. It does work pretty good. All right, let's plug it in.

01:03:27 John Daub: All right, let's get this thing going. And you say it's touch sensitive?

01:03:34 Peter von Gomm: It's touch sensitive, yeah. You have to... It starts when you turn it on.

01:03:39 John Daub: Okay, okay. Yeah, mine is on. I'm gonna get the phone in there first. So mine is on, you see. I do not want to lose this thing. So...

01:04:05 John Daub: Okay. Please... I'm gonna get the phone in there first. Bear with me. Almost ready here. Oh, you can tell the difference with the light. It makes a huge difference.

01:04:22 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

01:04:23 John Daub: All right, we're gonna start a live stream for Peter. And when he does that, I'm gonna... We're gonna turn off this live stream and then go over to Peter's live stream. And the reason why I'm doing this is because Peter's channel doesn't have a lot of subscribers, and he needs to have 4,000 hours in a year in order to monetize his channel.

01:05:00 Peter von Gomm: Not in a month.

01:05:01 John Daub: 4,000 hours in a month. Total.

01:05:03 Peter von Gomm: A total.

01:05:04 John Daub: Yeah. Well, we... He needs to have 4,000 hours total within a year. He doesn't have... How many hours do you have now?

01:05:18 Peter von Gomm: I'm not sure.

01:05:21 John Daub: That's not fair. So I want to help Peter get to that 4,000 hours. He should be monetizing his videos. He puts a lot of work into it, and it's time for him to... You look like me.

01:05:43 John Daub: Aren't you gonna take your phone out of the case?

01:05:52 Peter von Gomm: I always take my phone out just to keep it lighter, to keep the battery.

01:06:03 John Daub: Oh, it worked. Okay. Yeah, let's see. Oh, yeah. All right. Yeah, that's what my rig looks like now. Okay. A little light action. It's kind of like when you drive down the road and you see someone driving in the same car, same color. Oh, that's what I look like.

01:06:52 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

01:06:53 John Daub: Now you know what you look like. Copycat.

01:07:03 Peter von Gomm: Yeah, copycat. That's what I look like.

01:07:05 John Daub: Okay. YouTube brothers. All right. Before you do... Before you start the YouTube stream, make sure you turn off the... Hey, that's us. Turn off the Wi-Fi?

01:07:28 Peter von Gomm: No, turn off the Wi-Fi, and I turn off the Bluetooth as well.

01:07:33 John Daub: And then turn off... Make sure your camera app is closed. You don't want any other app using the camera, or else sometimes it'll interfere with the...

01:07:58 John Daub: All right. Yeah. All right. Get rid of it. You have the... Oh, you have the 10 specials. It's the X, yeah.

01:08:21 John Daub: Okay. So... Close all the other apps, yeah.

01:08:24 Peter von Gomm: Okay.

01:08:30 John Daub: Oh, yeah. You have the camera app open. I see it right there.

01:09:12 Peter von Gomm: Who are you taking pictures of? I'm taking pictures of... Show everybody what's going on on my phone.

01:09:24 John Daub: All right. I got some private stuff on here.

01:09:26 Peter von Gomm: Yes, you do. I'm a private guy.

01:09:34 John Daub: Wow. I don't... Show to public. Okay. Let's see. Up. Here we go. Okay. I have a lot of stuff open. While he's closing it, I put a link in the description, and I'm going to be turning the stream off in about one minute, and we're going to go over to Peter's stream. That quickly?

01:10:13 Peter von Gomm: We're getting to the one hour mark.

01:10:15 John Daub: Well, I got to make a title. Fast, fast. It took you forever. Ask these folks to... What should we title it?

01:10:31 Peter von Gomm: I think we're going to get a bowl of ramen or something.

01:10:34 John Daub: Yeah. So maybe Shinjuku Ramen Eating Spree.

01:10:44 Peter von Gomm: I like the word spree.

01:10:45 John Daub: It sounds fun. The Shinjuku Ramen Night Out. That's good. Shinjuku Night... Shinjuku Ramen Life Boys.

01:11:02 Peter von Gomm: Okay. So you got to show me how to do that.

01:11:05 John Daub: Two Dude Slurp Noodles.

01:11:06 Peter von Gomm: That's sort of nauseous. That is kind of nasty.

01:11:11 John Daub: Two Dude Slurp Noodles.

01:11:12 John Daub: Okay. So I go to my channel. How do I start this?

01:11:21 Peter von Gomm: Hold on a second. Go to... See the live streaming button?

01:11:25 John Daub: Yep. Got it. All right. Go live?

01:11:27 Peter von Gomm: Go live. Okay. We don't... Live chat. Got it. Reply. Okay. Got it. Now put in a title.

01:11:44 John Daub: Title. Tokyo Ramen... Shinjuku is it. Yeah. Okay. Be specific. Shinjuku Ramen...

01:11:59 Peter von Gomm: Shinjuku Ramen Night Out. Night Life or Night Out. Ramen. Ramen Night... Ramen Dinner...

01:12:15 John Daub: Dinner.

01:12:17 Peter von Gomm: Dinner. With the boys.

01:12:22 John Daub: Adventure. Yeah. With the boys. Shinjuku Ramen Night. I don't think we need with the boys. We're going to get guys who are searching for boys and that's not the... direction we want this to go. Shinjuku Ramen... And more. How about Shinjuku Ramen... Adventure.

01:12:55 Peter von Gomm: Shinjuku Ramen Adventure with...

01:12:59 John Daub: On Friday... On Friday... Friday Night Shinjuku Ramen Night Out. Just keep it simple. You can change it later. Got it. Shinjuku Ramen Night Out. Exclamation point?

01:13:20 Peter von Gomm: No.

01:13:21 John Daub: Don't... Okay. Don't ruin it. And why is Ramen... All caps. All caps. Don't do that because YouTube will demonetize...

01:13:31 Peter von Gomm: Really?

01:13:32 John Daub: Because it looks suspicious. Okay. All right. That's what I heard anyways. Keep it... Keep it normal. Night Out. Ramen Night Out. You want to... Maybe... All caps. No. Out is a big O. Yeah. Punctuation counts. People out there that like good punctuation... Shinjuku Ramen Night Out. All right. Turn it... Before you push next... Yeah. In more options, you can write it in the description, but we're good with that. Before you push next, make sure that the camera is portrait mode.

01:14:27 Peter von Gomm: Okay.

01:14:28 John Daub: It's all set. So you can turn... Let me just activate it to... Activate the smooth cue. Hey, wait a minute. That's not so smooth. The speed of first lives. Did... Did you balance? Did you balance it before you started it?

01:14:50 Peter von Gomm: It's set.

01:14:51 John Daub: It's set. Okay. Wait, wait, wait. Come back. Push the button twice. Here, boy. Here, boy. Come back. Come back. I pushed the button twice so it has a smooth action.

01:15:08 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

01:15:09 John Daub: Okay. I'll do that. You don't have to do what I do. I'm just trying to help.

01:15:25 John Daub: Well, that kind of... It's... Just trying to help. Peter Von Gimble. We have your...

01:15:44 John Daub: That was good. Wait, wait. Okay. And I want to be able to spin it around. Look at the deep concentration as... You better hurry up. People are leaving.

01:16:12 Peter von Gomm: Okay.

01:16:13 John Daub: All right. Don't leave me. Don't leave me. Don't leave me stranded. Okay. I think we're good to go. We have to do the hand off here.

01:16:25 John Daub: All right. Oh, look at that. Okay. So... Shinjuku Ramen Night Out. Without further ado.

01:16:41 Peter von Gomm: Done.

01:16:42 John Daub: Peter Von Goms streaming channel. All right. Go up here and push next. And we're going to take a thumbnail. Hang on a second here. It's not... Oh, there we go. Okay. Good, good, good. Okay. Next. Press next?

01:17:12 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

01:17:17 John Daub: All right. Three, two, one. That'll work for now. Okay. So there's the thumbnail. Two dudes. And then you just push go live. And that's it.

01:17:39 Peter von Gomm: Okay.

01:17:40 John Daub: And then go live. So we're waiting for you to go live.

01:17:50 Peter von Gomm: Okay. So go over to Peter's channel right now. I'm going to stream for 20 more seconds. Peter Von Gom. Okay. It's in the description. Waiting for you. It's in the description. They can just click it, right? If you can't, somebody copy and paste it and put it in the description. It's in the description here. So put it in your chat and it'll be in the record. All right. Go ahead and do it. Oh my God. You know what you're going to say? I have no idea.

01:19:05 John Daub: You got to keep it quality, man.

01:19:07 Peter von Gomm: It's quality.

01:19:08 John Daub: Okay. No pressure. No pressure. Here we go. Going live. This is Peter's first live stream. This is crazy. Thank you, Nosh. Are you ready? This is big. We got to get to 4,000 hours. Here we go. All right. Do it. I'm live.

01:19:36 Peter von Gomm: Am I live?

01:19:38 John Daub: You're live. This is part two for Peter's live stream. How many people do we have? Live stream in Shinjuku. We're going to eat some ramen. Ramen. Ramen. Ramen. Having ramen. Let's go. All right. Let's go. All right. We're double live stream.

01:20:07 John Daub: Hey, I'm unable to connect at this moment. Reconnect. These are the problems that I have. Is your Wi-Fi off?

01:20:18 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

01:20:19 John Daub: I turned it off. Can you hear me? Anybody there? Hello? That happens. You disconnect when your Wi-Fi goes on.

01:20:29 Peter von Gomm: It was off. I turned it off.

01:20:32 John Daub: Turn your Bluetooth off? Turn your Bluetooth off? Uh-oh. Welcome to my world.

01:20:46 John Daub: Okay. I'm going to take this parking space. Okay. I'm going to... Hold the mic. Hold the mic. All right. I'm holding his unit.

01:21:06 John Daub: So Peter's live stream got cut off and it's hard to understand the dynamics of live streaming. It's hard. So, you could be watching this in stereo. I don't know how to do the iPhone 10. He's got a new iPhone.

01:22:10 John Daub: Okay. So, you pay afterwards. There's a machine that you can park at. You can wrap the cable around and then that's when you pay. I got Peter's gimbal. I wonder why it didn't connect.

01:22:55 John Daub: It's now 7 p.m. We're locked. Okay. Let me try this again. All right. Try it again.

01:23:24 Peter von Gomm: That's disappointing, John.

01:23:28 John Daub: What are you blaming me?

01:23:34 John Daub: Okay. So... There's a little bit of raindrops I can feel. So, reconnect?

01:23:53 Peter von Gomm: Reconnect. Yeah.

01:23:54 John Daub: I don't know what... I don't know what's going on. But it says it's... What's going on here? Do you have any other apps open?

01:24:08 Peter von Gomm: I don't think so.

01:24:12 John Daub: Let me... Should I close that?

01:24:20 Peter von Gomm: No.

01:24:24 John Daub: I don't know what... It's the only one open. You should be able to connect. If I have it, you should have it.

01:24:33 Peter von Gomm: Right.

01:24:40 John Daub: Sorry, guys. I can see the chat's coming in. It's weird why it's not connecting. Right. And it's counting. It says it's on. It's not on.

01:25:12 John Daub: Sorry. We're going to give a look at the other apps. So, we're going to give it another try. Basically, go over to Peter's channel and if we live stream again, we'll be there. Right?

01:25:34 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

01:25:35 John Daub: Okay. Should I click that? You can click it and try it again. Stop streaming? Do you want to... No. We don't want to stop it, though.

01:26:00 John Daub: I know. Well... I don't know... Why isn't it connecting? Have you updated the app?

01:26:18 Peter von Gomm: I don't remember the last time, but I think there might be a new update available.

01:26:25 John Daub: I don't know. I don't know. Peter... Sorry, guys. Let's try again and if we stream again tonight and get some ramen, it's going to be with your live stream.

01:26:40 Peter von Gomm: Yeah.

01:26:41 John Daub: Okay. Sorry, guys. We'll get this worked out, guys. We'll get it worked out. This happens with me a lot of times. Sometimes I have to abandon the stream and start a new one. So we'll work it out and go over to Peter's channel now for part two. We're going to live stream, maybe get some ramen or something. Actually, I'm supposed to meet a friend at 7. It's at 7. We better... It's this way. It's this way? All right. Let's go this way. So thanks for tuning in, everybody. Thanks for the super chats and supporting Peter's channel.

01:27:44 Peter von Gomm: Right.

01:27:45 John Daub: So hold tight. We'll be back. We'll get this sorted out and we'll be streaming. Is that a promise?

01:27:52 Peter von Gomm: I promise.

01:27:54 John Daub: Look at him. He looks like a professional. It looks like you've been doing this for years. Just keep walking down the street and I'm going to end this stream. Last 20 seconds of Peter walking by himself in Shinjuku as a live streamer. He looks lost.
