Sri Lanka's Amazing Galle Face Hotel Colombo
Sri Lanka's Amazing Galle Face Hotel Colombo
Overview
John Daub and his wife Kanae stop over in Colombo, Sri Lanka, during a long transit journey from Tokyo to New York via India and Europe. They spend a night at the historic Galle Face Hotel, one of the oldest hotels in Asia east of the Suez Canal, established in 1864. The video captures the colonial charm of the property, the breakfast buffet featuring local Sri Lankan curries, and the stunning views of the Indian Ocean.
Beyond the hotel tour, John explores the surrounding area, noting the rapid modernization of Colombo with new Chinese-funded construction contrasting against the historic hotel. The highlight of the stay becomes an unexpected wildlife encounter on the room's veranda, where crows and a palm squirrel (humorously dubbed a "chipmunk") attempt to steal minibar peanuts. John shares travel tips for transit passengers, insights into Sri Lankan tea culture, and details about his upcoming meetup plans in Mumbai and Munich.

00:01 John Daub: Good morning everybody. This is the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Kanae and I are here just for one night in transit. Kanae's over there. They say it's one of the 1,000 places you have to go before you die. It's one of the oldest hotels in Asia east of the Suez Canal, and the first hotel in Sri Lanka. It's a really beautiful place. We're gonna take a tour around here together. They have pretty good Wi-Fi, pretty good coffee, and a pretty good breakfast buffet. If you'd like, let's take a look at the breakfast here. This is our table. We're looking at the sea. Check it out.
00:57 John Daub: And this guy's got a slingshot. Sometimes I gotta hide behind here. Sometimes he takes out the slingshot and goes for the birds. Oh there he goes, there he goes. Do it! He tries to get them before they come in here, and the birds will actually come in here and attack the guests. So this is like a Hitchcock movie in a way. Alright, Kanae and I are gonna take you on a tour. Then we're gonna stay around because we're gonna take a look at the room, which is really beautiful.
01:30 John Daub: So what are we gonna do? You're gonna go to the outside? Yeah. Alright, I'm gonna go and show the breakfast really quickly, okay? Okay, let's go show the breakfast here really quickly. Thank you very much. Check out all the juices here. The coconut juice is really good. Wow. Oh this one is really good. This one is called coconut seigo [?]. Seiga. Seigo. Coconut seigo with rice in it. There's always a big bread place. This is really good.
02:28 Staff: Good morning, sir.
02:32 John Daub: Which one is the most Sri Lankan?
02:34 Staff: Chicken curry.
02:38 John Daub: This one?
02:40 Staff: Chicken curry and fish curry and dal curry. And dal curry.
02:45 John Daub: Yeah. Wow, and it's typical to eat for breakfast?
02:48 Staff: No. No.
02:50 John Daub: What do you eat for breakfast?
02:53 Staff: Normally Sri Lankan, I believe. With rice.
02:57 John Daub: Ah. And this is dal curry.
03:01 Staff: Yeah.
03:03 John Daub: Thank you. Thank you. And idli. This is an Indian breakfast. You eat idli with dal. I like idli a lot.
03:20 John Daub: Alright, let me show you the outside of this place. It's a really beautiful hotel. Oh, can I, I think we can go out this way. Where can I go? I think we can go out this way. Alright, let's go out to the seaside.
03:41 Staff: Is that breakfast?
03:42 John Daub: What's that? Oh, breakfast is great.
03:45 Staff: Really?
03:46 John Daub: Breakfast is very good. Thank you. Yeah.
03:48 John Daub: Alright, let's go outside and take a look at the sea. There's big birds. He's going after the birds. Did he get one? Oh, he's going for one. He's going for one. Oh, he's going for one. I thought he was going to go for it. That's awesome. They don't have guns. They use slingshots. Alright, can I get a picture of the flag? Beautiful sea. I didn't expect it to be as beautiful as this. I really didn't know what to expect with Sri Lanka. I don't know a lot of friends that have been here. But those that have rave about how friendly the people are and how beautiful the countryside is. And there's the flag of Sri Lanka flying. It's very nice with the Indian Ocean back there. Kind of an overcast day.
05:03 John Daub: When we came in, it was 90 degrees Fahrenheit. And we left from Tokyo, which was about 45, 43 degrees Fahrenheit. So, completely different weathers. We are not dressed for Sri Lanka. And get this, okay? I didn't even explain this to Kanae because I didn't go to Mumbai. So, all we have are like these really warm clothes. I'm wearing like insulated pants to keep warm from Heat Tech. She has Heat Tech from Uniqlo. In tropical weather, that's not really good. No surfing. No surfing that I know about. But I came out here because I wanted to look back at the hotel and show you how beautiful it is. There's a lot of modern buildings that have been constructed around this hotel. Hey guys. But this one is the first one. And you can see how beautiful it is. And there's been a ton of celebrity guests that have stayed here. It was constructed in 1864 by some entrepreneurs from England that came here to build a hotel because this was one of the colonies. One of the English colonies from way back. And it ended up being one of the first hotels east of the Suez, they say.
06:30 John Daub: That's where we had dinner last night. Which is a Cuban bar. Which is weird. 1864, that's right. This is a Cuban restaurant. And they had Cuban music. And everyone was Sri Lankan. Which was kind of unusual. But yeah, there's a little bit of a Cuban flair to it. The drinks are Cuban. But we stayed away from alcohol because when you're traveling, it's easy to get sick. Just take a picture of me taking a picture of you. That's nice. So today we're going to be flying from Sri Lanka and going from Colombo to Mumbai. Is the next flight out. And we're going to be here for another six hours. So we're going to try some delicious curry. Have some tea. Sri Lanka is famous for its tea. Probably the best tea in the world. Ceylon tea is very famous. Yeah, basically most of the tea is exported. But they still keep some really good tea here for people to drink.
07:35 John Daub: Over here, last night, next to the hotel. And one of the reasons I wanted to stay here. There's a pier over there. I got to stay where the Wi-Fi is, guys. So I can't go over there. But if you look in the distance, there's a little walkway here. You see that? There's a ton of street food along there. And a lot of it looks like they're serving the same stuff. But it's amazing seafood because this is an island. So they have amazing seafood here. This place is idyllic. It is one of the... I read on Wikipedia. I got a lot of this from Wikipedia. I'm sorry. I'm just regurgitating what Wikipedia said. But one author quoted this as being one of the thousand places you have to visit before you die. We're staying, I think, in one of the corner rooms. I like to say that that's the room that Gandhi stayed in because Gandhi is one of the celebrity guests that has stayed in this hotel. Behind the Galle Face Hotel is the Indian Mission to Sri Lanka. Which I believe is the embassy. I'm not really sure. And we're live from the coast of the Indian Ocean here in Sri Lanka. In Colombo. Which is the capital of Sri Lanka.
08:51 John Daub: Yeah, Betty Boop writes in. Try the Chinese Sri Lankan food. When we came from the airport yesterday. The taxi driver told us how much China is investing in Sri Lanka. A lot of these new buildings that are being constructed are constructed by Chinese companies. There's a lot of Chinese tourists coming here as well. And it's helping the economy a lot. Sri Lankan Airlines, which is a wonderful experience. If you watched the live stream from yesterday. I live streamed all the way to the airport. All the way to the gate. All the way into the seat. She was not that happy about it. She was not so happy about me. Hey guys. So I'm coming back in towards where the Wi-Fi is. We're going to go in through the restaurant and back out. Sorry if there's a lag with the signal. So we're going to walk in through where we ate breakfast. We were sitting right there. We should have sat outside. It's just, there's just a nice light breeze.
10:06 John Daub: So celebrity guests here have included Yuri Gagarin. Which is one of the first astronauts. If not the first, I believe. And Gandhi, of course. Roger Moore. Check it out. Beautiful floors. They have Christmas trees here. Taj Mahal in Mumbai. I just saw the comment coming in. Wow. That is a very, very prestigious hotel. I've been in there several times. But that's not a place that I would stay. It's very expensive. All right. Now I'm going to go and show you the room. So you want to stick around for this. Just show you what it looks like in our room. I love the fans. It's just cool enough where you don't need air conditioning or anything because it's still morning time. But really beautiful views. Let's go into the lobby. And then I'll take you upstairs. Push. Oh, that's where we checked in. And there's the front doors. Yesterday there was a beautiful wedding going on. So everyone was dressed much better than we were. That's okay.
12:03 John Daub: Here's some of the silverware from when the hotel first opened. Again, this hotel opened in 1864. It was the first hotel east of the Suez Canal. That's what is written there. Hey, Ramselin. How are you? Although it broke in half, the pillow could be broken in half because there's a double layer. And I used the top half but shared. But she used it the whole time. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Potter, for the pillow. And these all come from the early days. So this hotel has been renovated and now has Sri Lankan owners, of course. But the history of it. And Sri Lanka won its independence, I believe, in 1948. And India in 1947, which is a year after India. And you can see it's just... They call this... The jet lag is not that bad because it's only like three and a half hours time difference.
13:16 John Daub: Let's go upstairs to the room. Yeah. But it's weird for me to wear shoes on carpet, though. I don't know. I think I've just been in Japan for a long time. But it's really... It's weird to wear shoes inside the room, for example. I feel uncomfortable in my shoes when I enter a room. Even though you don't have to. Look how beautiful it is up here. You want to sit in the chair? She's going to sit in the chair. We haven't enjoyed this area. This is like the middle of all the rooms. Yeah. This hotel is haunted, writes ER. It looks like it could be. This is a wonderful location for a scary movie. Hey, Jim. I see Jim's in here. Yeah. This is a beautiful room. I definitely wanted to stay here. And the thing is... Oh, look at that. Look at that. Now I'm starting to feel more like we're not in Japan anymore. Sorry. The gimbal is off balance, not the picture. But it is really nice. Let's get a closer look for a second. Here. It looks like Tokyo Tower. I thought that was Tokyo Tower on his chest. Is that Tokyo Tower on his shirt? I thought it was Tokyo Tower. Look. No, no, no, no. It's not Tokyo Tower. It's just the jacket parting. I'm in Sri Lanka just for a couple more hours. We came here in transit. And we're in transit so our bags weren't even coming out of the luggage belt yesterday. So, we have just our backpacks. It's beautiful. It is gorgeous hotel.
15:21 John Daub: I think it's the history that attracts me the most to this place. And it wasn't, it's not really that expensive. You'd think that this thing would be out of my budget. And actually, I mean it's not cheap. There's much cheaper hotels. But because there are so many five-star hotels that have moved in to Colombo, this is a lot more affordable. And I got it through booking.com so it was a deal I think two months in advance, a month in advance. Beautiful elevators. Look at the gold plating. The elevators there. There's some more paintings up there. There's one of an elephant and there's a ton of elephants inside. Oh, Kanae's looking regal in the chair. There you go. Nice. All right, let's take you into the room for a second. Oh gosh, I love it. It just feels like you're in another age, another era. The feeling of colonialism, like a colonial feel to it, just from the little things like the pillars here in this waiting area and the fact that there is so much space. If there was a modern hotel, this would be just an amazing waste of space. You'd think that you could add in more rooms, but they've done it. The staircases are beautiful. Everything is just so beautifully done. You want to stay here just to be a part of it. That's, I think, why I wanted to stay here. I just wanted to be a part of it and say, I stayed in the Galle Face Hotel. I was here and now I'm going to take you to the room.
17:16 John Daub: We cleaned up the room, right? Can I? All right. This is not a newly made up room, okay? We spent the night here, so it's not, you know, fresh. All right, here's the key. We're going in. All right. I think we're live. Are we live now? We're back in the hotel. We're in the hotel room now. The video is black. All right, hold on. Let's see if we can. All right, we're back. All right. Thank you, PMX. Thank you. Thank you, Mena. All right. So I want to show you the room. This is, when I came in here, they brought us in here. Our flight was delayed a little bit. And see, in order to keep the power on, I put my Costco card in it. Don't tell management that I did that. So then we can keep the power on to charge this stuff. This could have been Gandhi's room. I don't know if Gandhi stayed here or another room. I'm not going to say this is Gandhi's room because I have a very big imagination. So Gandhi had a 50-inch TV on his wall when he stayed here. Gandhi also had, that could be Gandhi's desk. And he had a very good telephone. And Gandhi liked high curtains. These curtains are extremely high. And this could have been Gandhi's bed that we slept in. I don't know if Gandhi stayed in this room. This could have been where he stayed. This could have been the carpet that he, I really don't, we don't know, do we? So I like to think this is where he did his thing. But I love the fact that the ceilings are so high in here. And that lets the hot air, I guess one reason I think could be to let the hot air rise and the cooler air will settle down lower. It's just a fact of science. But it is a very beautiful room.
19:35 John Daub: Let me take you into the bathroom really quickly. Which is in here. I'm sorry if the Wi-Fi is not so strong in here. Just the little things like the handle, the brass handles make it really nice. Here's some, the lights, the little things like the lights. There's our robes, the towels on the back. Again, like this isn't a clean room. This is, we spent the night here already. Love these little lights, the little touches make the experience really worth it. And then I don't, I like to think of it. I like to think Gandhi did shower like this too. But I'm not sure if Gandhi had this shower. It's hard to say. I know he was a guest. Very beautiful. And the toilet. Could have been Gandhi's toilet. I don't think so, though. But it could have been. And that's where we slept. A queen-size bed. We got a actually super soft bed because we have a futon, which is just sleeping on the floor in Tokyo. But when we came into this room, we were like, whoa, this room should be way, way more expensive and then the concierge who told us about this room said it has been just newly renovated. There's one other thing with this room and I think I paid an extra $10 for it. I'm not sure. I think it was totally worth it. But we have this outdoor veranda. Hey, Kasun. Kasun writes in, John, take a walk down Galle Face Beach with Kanae. It's amazing to see the sunset there. We did last night. The sunset was already finished, but we did walk along there and have some... Some of the street food there was really good. Lots and lots of seafood. Nana King's was one of the places. They tried to get us to go in there, but we ended up just eating at the hotel because it was getting kind of late. Our flight was delayed in Tokyo.
21:53 John Daub: All right, check this out. I'm going to take you out to... Look how high. This thing... I am this high. I'm this tall, okay? I'm this tall. Excuse me. It keeps going up. And up. And up. These are the longest curtains I've seen in a room. Maybe... Ever. Except in Buckingham Palace or one of the English palaces. Hampton Court, I think it might have been. They have very, very high ceilings there. All right, check it out. Nice, huh? Nice. So from here, you can see the sea. See the sea. See the sea, see. And that's where we were down there before. We were looking at the Sri Lankan flag flying from the breakfast. And there's a couple other guests. It would have been nice to have that corner room. But that was... I believe that cost a lot more. I'm like, yeah, you know what? I'll take a back balcony for 10 extra dollars. Why not? See the sea. That's the new name of this live stream. See the sea. But it's a very well-maintained restaurant. Despite how old it is, they do such an amazing job of keeping it... Like it... Like... Keeping the feeling of like it looked in 1864, 150 years ago. But yet, keep it modern so we feel comfortable staying in it. It's not... They do have air conditioning, for example. They do have running water. Which I don't think they had in 1864. It's hard to say. I believe that the colonists had a different experience. But the Galle Face Hotel has done an amazing job with the food, the services, the breakfasts. It's amazing. It's a four-star hotel, I believe. And it could be haunted. According to Lisa M. It could be haunted. We didn't hear anything because we were so tired. We went straight to like, good morning. We went to bed right away.
24:11 John Daub: It's gonna get a lot hotter too. It's pretty cool right now in the morning. You gonna do yoga? She's into yoga. I'm into yogurt. She's into the yoga. I don't do... I might do yoga. I don't know. She wants to do yoga in India. By the way, anyone who's watching from India, we're gonna be doing a meetup December 16th. I haven't set the time yet. I'll do that on Facebook. December 16th on Sunday at the Gateway of India. So if you want to meet up there, we're gonna have a chance to hang out for a little bit. And I want to show Kanae, Crawford Market, which is not too far away. Maybe Victoria Station. Some of the old places in Colaba, which is part of Mumbai. She's never been to India. Your first time in India. I've been to India many, many, many times. But... Oh, there's one of the birds that the guy's trying to slingshot. That's not a bird. What is that? Kanae, that's not a bird. See it? It's like a squirrel right there. Look at that tail. Do you have any like... Do you have any chestnuts? Kudiyaru [?]. Look at that. Yeah. Come on over here. It's like a hamster. Yeah. Hey, over here, buddy. I got some fingers. You can dimple on. Wow. Do you see jump? Jump and stay away from the dude from the slingshot with the slingshot. It's like eating the wires. Maybe this is better than the Owl Cafe that I visited a couple of months ago. It does look like a chipmunk. I'm not sure. Oh, it's coming back. It doesn't seem to be afraid of people. Hey, come on over here, little guy. We might have food. We don't. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. What's going on here? Hey, hey. No, no, no. In the refrigerator. Go to the mini bar and get... Whoa. It's inside of that thing.
26:32 John Daub: This is like National Geographic or something. Hey, go. They have those peanut things. You want this peanut? Yeah, he's coming over here. Come on, give me it. Oh, no. In the refrigerator, they have... This fridge is... Hurry, hurry. Get it. Get it. Open it. Open it. I got jumbo peanuts. All right. Just leave it here. He's going to jump to me. Just leave it. Leave it here. Leave. All right. Let's leave it here. Okay. Move away. Move away. Move away. Move away, Kanae. All right. All right. We're moving away. And we've just left the peanuts there. We're moving away. Step away from the peanuts. Is it going to take the peanuts? We've left. What? No, no, no. It took a peanut. All right, the chipmunk. No, these are for the chipmunks. How did the birds know that I left the peanuts there? These crows could have came from Japan. Oh, no, the chipmunk went away. And we opened minibar peanuts. That's going to cost a lot. I don't know if they're free or not. I don't think they're. You said it's free. I don't know. They're from the minibar. What? The crow. We opened up like ten dollar peanuts. And the crow took one. And the chipmunk didn't even take any of them. Chipmunk, they're for you. Ah, it's crazy. Did you see that? Look, and the crow's still got the peanut. He's got the peanut in his mouth. Look. How dare you eat our minibar peanuts? Toby (crow). Toby's back. Look, he's chowing down on it right in the center of your screen. He put the peanut down. He doesn't like the peanut. Do you see it? Oh, all right. Just leave the peanut there. The chipmunk will come and get it. He put the peanut on the chair. Oh, no. They're for the chair. He took both of them, that scoundrel. Oh, no. Where's that slingshot guy? That's why the guy has the slingshot. That's why he has a slingshot. He stole my peanut. We're live. That just happened. Look, and he's looking and that his little buddy's partner in crime is looking for more peanuts. Whoa. They stole our breakfast. Whoa. Yeah. Greedy birds. They're very greedy. How dare you, crows? No more peanuts. No more peanuts for you. Look, now they're all coming here. Look what we've done. This is awful. Oh, sorry. You had to see that everybody. You've seen robbery, theft, thievery, scoundrels, dirty, rotten scoundrels.
29:45 John Daub: But what's not rotten is this room. This room is beautiful. And for the last time, I'm going to take you inside. I do apologize in advance and after the fact, what you just had to experience and endure. The chipmunk did not come for the peanuts. But no, sorry. But if the chipmunk comes into this beautiful room, he will find or she a wonderful place to sleep and to leave your belongings and a bag from the Narita episode. Narita Airport episode. Gifts for India. Oh, and one other thing I have to show you is these outlets here. Hey, Nathan. This better than National Geographic or Wild America combined. What? What? Really? So, Nathan, thanks for buying the peanuts from the mini bar. This is going towards your contribution to the mini bar. All right. Check it out. So the one thing I was not prepared for is that these are not the same kind of outlets. I think these are UK outlets. Actually, this one might fit. Hold on a second. We have just the normal. Japan has the same as the US ones. Oh, I see. OK, this might fit in there. Yeah. So sometimes they'll fit in there. Sometimes they don't. But there's also a converter that they have from the inside of Gandhi's desk. I like to think it's Gandhi's desk anyways. And I'm going to put this back. This could be Gandhi's desk. That's not Gandhi's hat. That's mine. This is what it looks like sitting at the desk, looking at the bed. It's pretty nice. This could have been Yuri Gagarin's phone. First astronaut. And in here, there's stationery. It's a very, very well-maintained hotel.
32:00 John Daub: Let's see what's inside here. Oh, this is the menu. This is room service. Do you guys want anything from room service? There's a gym. Wait a second. Our fully equipped gym is complete with free weights. Oh, I'm going in here. A selection of cardiovascular. Oh, my Lord. I need this. Machines and assisted weights machines. The opening time is 24 hours. Please note that this area is unmanned. Good, because I'd prefer to have women in there. All right. This is very good. This is news to me. Housekeeping. Please contact your housekeeping by dialing. Oh, oh, okay. Ice is provided to your room on request. We don't need any ice. In-room dining. It's very good. So I'm really digging this hotel. Hey, Tuataku. Someone beat me to paying for the peanuts. Buy beer instead. I feel very powerful at Gandhi's desk here. Jim writes in. This is for the food for the birds to hold. I'm going to leave the whole thing of peanuts out there then. And maybe we'll just put we'll do some National Geographic to end the stream. John, you're hilarious. Attracting vermin. I stayed there in 2010. Really? No building around taller than the Galle Face. Now you can see all around this hotel. It's really interesting, isn't it, Phil? Does the amount of construction happening in Colombo is amazing. When we came in from the hotel last night, all you see are buildings and buildings and buildings. And the driver could not stop talking about how much the city is changing. So it's kind of exciting feeling here in Sri Lanka. Jeff Neil writes in here. Enjoy your vacation. You too. Thank you, Jeff. Appreciate it. We're going to use that at the airport, Jeff, to get some. I don't know if we'll do another live stream at the airport. It'd be pretty cool to show you the airport in Colombo. I can only go where there's Wi-Fi and the hotel has very good Wi-Fi and a very good bed.
33:52 John Daub: And I say, you're going to get that, right? So she sleep very well. As the birds outside the wreaths. Yes, chipmunk. We are the of the she's gone. The Internet has dubbed this chipmunk. Let's see what else is in the minibar. Oh, really? All right. What else would the chipmunk like? All right. Hold on a second. These are karapincha [?]. You guys know what karapincha is, don't you? It's herbal. I think the chipmunk love some herbal food. All right. We're going to we're going to do some National Geographic. And then here. This is what I was talking about. Can I look? It's already open. This one. I don't think do you think the chipmunk would like this? I, I would like this actually. It's like a little thing. It's like a little snack. I would like this if I like it. I think the chipmunk will. I hope the chipmunk will love this. Let's do it. I don't want to. The person next door is doing yoga. Poor thing. The guy next door is doing yoga. Let's see if the, if the chipmunk comes back. Okay. All right. Let's stake it out. Is it going to be, is it going to be a crow that takes that? Or is it going to be one of the chipmunks? Or maybe even something that we haven't discovered yet. Because anything is possible on a live stream. So everybody we're just going to. Oh, look. I see a bird in the distance. There was a bird. Oh, shoot. This is a wonderful bird. This is better than National Geographic wrote in earlier. I can hear some boats. There's some bugs buzzing around. So far. It's been pretty quiet. Maybe you have to make it more obvious. I think I have to make it more obvious that I've got food here. I'm putting on a tripod. Sorry for the shaking. Let's go out there. Make it more obvious and sell this. All right. Let's sell it. I don't think they saw this. This lady is doing yoga. Somebody somewhere must have seen that. I'm not throwing at a lady doing yoga. That's not good. She's bigger than me.
37:19 John Daub: Do I just keep live streaming until it gets really boring? Or until somebody, something, somewhere takes this? Should I wait? Ellis Wright, enjoy your world tour month. Thanks, Ellis. We'll see you at the end of it. Sorry about that. Thanks for the mini bar contributions, guys. We're prepared for anything now. It's been a pretty fun trip. We're flying to Mumbai, and I'm going to end this live stream so Kanae can do some stretching. We're going to go and see the city. Hold on a second. I'm sitting at Gandhi's desk now. Gandhi is one of the famous people that has stayed at this hotel, and now yours truly has stayed at the Galle Face Hotel, and I feel very, very privileged and honored to have been here in Sri Lanka. It's a wonderful hotel, once again, just to sum up, because we have some people that are coming under the live stream. Kanae and I are going to be going back home for Christmas, but instead of going to New York the long way, or the short way, which is the long way, we're doing it the other way, which is the longer way. Sri Lanka is the first stop because we're in transit to India, which we're going to be in tonight. We're taking the Sri Lankan Airlines to Mumbai, and my aunt will be meeting us at the airport, which is pretty cool. We'll be in Mumbai for about six and a half days, and then we fly to Munich in Germany, on the 17th and 18th, sorry, and we're going to do a meet-up on the 17th at Marienplatz in Munich for the Christmas market, and I'll try to bring that live for you. Then we're going to Paris to stay away from the protests, but I have a friend there who lives in Paris, and then after meeting with them and seeing a little bit of Paris, and I want to make an episode comparing the Eiffel Tower to Tokyo Tower, so I'm actually filming for the main channel so this is not just touring, this is actually work. I'm going to try sushi in Mumbai, which is going to be fun, and I'm going to take shots of the Eiffel Tower to compare with Tokyo Tower, so I'm actually working, and then I'm going to bring you with me through these live streams, and then after Paris, the cheapest flight, get this, okay? All right, hold on, I'm going to show it to you the other way. The cheapest flight is, oh, you're stretching now? Okay, sorry. The cheapest flight to New York, across the Atlantic, was Icelandic air, so we decided to spend two nights in Iceland, and see if we can see the aurora, which is the northern lights, and then after that, we fly to see my parents and have Christmas at home, and then after that, we go back to Tokyo, but I'll be filming and editing and uploading videos just like normal. I have my MacBook Pro.
41:00 John Daub: Apple came in the 70s, and Gandhi was from earlier this century, 19th, 20th century, but Gandhi did stay at the Galle Face Hotel. He's one of the famous celebrities who stayed here when he visited Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has been really fun so far, not long enough. I think you need at least a week to see Sri Lanka, but this hotel is one of the highlights of it, and I'm glad that I stayed here. Booking.com, it was a lot cheaper than you think because of all the other five-star hotels. This one is not now the best in the country, but it's definitely the most historic, and it is still an amazing place to stay, and one of the places that you do have to come to before you die. Yeah, so thanks everybody for joining us. I appreciate the contributions. We didn't see the chipmunk. Let's go one more time just to check. I didn't see. I didn't see. It's still there. It's still there. Check it out. Something will get it sometime. You know who's going to get that? I know who's going to get that. Housekeeping is going to get that. And housekeeping will not be pleased when it melts into the cement. But we do have a 15-inch TV. So a lot of stuff to be thankful for. I will see you maybe later tomorrow, or if we can from the airport. I'll surprise you with live streams. If you want updates and notices on when the live streams take place, I'm doing that for Patreon supporters and Instagram when I can, but I appreciate everybody the support. I'll see you on the other side of the day. Have a good day or good night, wherever you are. She's going to stretch. I'm going to go. See you. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. I'm gonna sit at Gandhi's desk some more and do some work and stake out and see if something will attack our sweet peanut, which is really good. Beautiful breakfast, too, here. All right, guys, see you later. Kanae said have a beautiful day.
