Summary

Tokyo Station to Akihabara by Train

Overview

In this live stream episode, John Daub and his wife Kanae Daub demonstrate exactly how to travel from Tokyo Station to Akihabara using the JR Yamanote Line. Starting at the historic Marunouchi facade of Tokyo Station at sunset, they navigate the station, explain ticket prices, and board the train for the short ride to Electric Town.

Upon arriving in Akihabara, the couple explores the vibrant streets filled with electronics stores, anime culture, and Halloween decorations. The highlight of the trip is a visit to the famous "Jack in the Donut" shop, where they watch staff torch cream brulee donuts with a blowtorch before tasting them. Along the way, John and Kanae meet numerous viewers and fellow YouTubers who recognize them from their live streams, creating a spontaneous meetup atmosphere.

This video serves as both a practical travel guide for navigating Tokyo's train system and a snapshot of Akihabara's unique energy in the fall of 2019. It captures the ease of using IC cards, the distinct train jingles, and the friendly community surrounding the Only in Japan Go channel.

00:00:05 John Daub: Hey everybody, welcome to Tokyo Station. This is the Marunouchi side and at sunset it is beautiful. You can see the sun, a little bit of light in the sky. We're looking straight on to the old Tokyo Station facade at Marunouchi. That is the Tokyo Station Hotel. Very pricey. You need to have a company credit card in order to stay there I think. And then all around us are the rest of the building. We're joined now by Kanae Daub.

00:00:36 John Daub: Kanae is a professional who will know how to guide us to Akihabara. Not like I already know. I kind of already know but it's better if she does it. Good evening. Very well said. And behind us we have two very famous buildings. This one is the Marunouchi Building and the Shin-Marunouchi Building. Do you know which one is which?

00:00:56 Kanae Daub: The left side is the Marunouchi Building. This is the older one and then this one is the newer one.

00:01:05 John Daub: I always get them confused. They're very very beautiful buildings with a nice deck. I brought you to the 7th floor there before in the Q&A for the main channel like 3-4 years ago and from other live streams. And straight ahead is where the new emperor is residing over the Reiwa era, which is very exciting. Those kids are having more fun than us. That should be illegal. Let's get moving.

00:01:30 John Daub: A viewer asked me how do I get to Akihabara? And I started to think, well I could either respond to him in a message or we could just do it. And we sent over there is the international post office. Do you see that building? Kitte (stamp). That building in front of you is the Tokyo International Post Office which is open on Sundays. That's where I send the postcards for Patreon and the daimyo packages. And we got two new daimyo. So Kanae and I sent two new packages from that building.

00:02:07 Kanae Daub: We are in Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station. Yeah some people confusing about Tokyo Station. It's very huge. Then we have Yaesu side and Marunouchi side. In Marunouchi side we have this amazing view and some offices. Yaesu side we have Nihonbashi area.

00:02:34 John Daub: I'm trying to encourage her to speak more because she's doing a pretty good job. Good job. Alright in front of us is a clock here. I got confused when I first came to Japan between the Yaesu, Y-A-E-S-U, and the Marunouchi. Actually we have a passageway to the other side, underground passageway. Oh there's an overground one as well. I always go underground. She knows more than me on many things.

00:03:10 John Daub: This is the opening ceremony to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. How cool is that? We got 271 days. I'm impatient. I cannot wait. Start right now. Two hours and plus two hours and 34 minutes and 55 seconds. So the opening ceremony will be starting at like 8pm. I guess this is what the clock is telling us. It's very very cool. Let's get a closer look at this amazing clock. I have a slight cold. You can hear that in my voice. There's the Olympic symbol up there. Thank you Omega for creating this amazing sign. And guess what? We will be here for this. There's no way I'm going to miss the Olympics. I'm not leaving my city.

00:03:52 Kanae Daub: Your voice does sound different.

00:03:53 John Daub: Kenneth Lee writes in. It's a true story. She gave it to me. My voice is getting better but still kind of this. But I'm not complaining. What goes around comes around. I don't know. Is that the right phrase to say? We're going under the train now. I'm going to take you in. We usually go under the train. We usually use the Suica.

00:04:17 John Daub: How do you usually get to Akihabara, Kanae? Like by bus?

00:04:22 Kanae Daub: I usually get subway or JR line. I ride my bicycle now. By Gaienmae. It takes 30 minutes.

00:04:35 John Daub: Wow. It takes me like 15 if I really push it. But safety first. All right. This is the Marunouchi North entrance. And I heard here in a television drama that the inside of here is kinetic. They take the kinetic energy and store it underneath here. I don't know if that's true or not. But it has such a beautiful dome to it. Look at this. All restored. This was renovated a few years ago. And it is beautiful.

00:05:29 John Daub: Let's go take a look at the ticket thing. I want to show you the prices to get to Akihabara. I apologize that the signal goes in and out. If we do lose a signal, refresh your browser and sometimes that'll increase or improve the quality. The Marunouchi line is underground circle line as well as the Oedo line. But we're taking the Yamanote line, which is the green one in the center of your screen. And it's 140 yen to Akihabara. Akihabara is the one in the box right above the red mark. Two stations, 140 yen. About five minutes or less.

00:06:09 John Daub: We're not getting a ticket here. But if you do get a ticket, it's very easy to do it. Just click English. A very embarrassing and annoying lady will speak to you in English and guide you through this. You can get a receipt. I'm not buying anything because I have an ICOCA card. And Kanae has a Suica card, right? Hers is in a beautiful case. All right. Let's do this. We're taking you to Akihabara. Buckle your seat belts. In the north entrance, you can see the passageway to the Yaesu side here. So you can go underground or overground. The signal might get a little weak, but just keep at it, guys.

00:07:04 John Daub: Where's the Yamanote line? Look for the colors here. The orange one is the Chuo line. That'll take you as a shortcut to Shinjuku. That's a good thing to know. If you need to get to Shinjuku fast, take the Chuo line. And then here's the Yamanote line going towards Akihabara. The Keihin-Tohoku line also goes there. Both. This is a single person escalator. So you don't have to stand on the line. You can go left or the right. Just stand the whole way. Hey, there's Alex. How you doing, Alex? Did you get back to Berlin? Alex, of course you got back to Berlin. You're chatting in here. It's nice to hear from you. Alex was our reporter for two, three episodes.

00:07:59 John Daub: Kanae and I said that we're going to take you to the front of the train. Welcome to the platform. Oh, here it comes this way, Kanae. So the front is over here. Let's watch the train. We're getting on this one, everybody. The front of the train is usually the least crowded. So we're going to bother the least amount of people in the front of the train. Come on, Kanae. And sometimes we get a view looking outside, but not today. That's what we look like right now. Ridiculous.

00:09:10 John Daub: It's going to take four minutes to get there. When you do live streams, you don't want to bother the people. So I know the best area is not to bother anybody. You hear that? Every single station on the Yamanote Line has their own jingle, right? That's the Tokyo Station jingle. And then we also have a new jingle for Kanda, which is the next station. This is pretty cool. It's going to take us about four minutes to get to Akihabara. This is Kanda. Kanda to Akihabara, right. You could actually walk that in 10 minutes or less, depending on how fast you walk. I could walk it in 10, and she'll walk it in 15. But to walk from Tokyo Station to Akihabara takes about 40 minutes because the roads are a little bit like shifting back and forth a little bit.

00:10:58 Kanae Daub: Because it's dark early, because it's fall, it's getting darker early.

00:11:08 John Daub: As you can see, it's pretty easy to get to Akihabara. Now listen to the music now as the jingle changes here. You can buy these ringtones on iTunes, I saw. They're like 250 yen for the jingle. Here's the kanji for Kanda. I'm trying very hard to give you the best view. It's like stealth, like infrared. Akihabara, Akihabara. Our train is on the left. We're going to go to the side window here. I know, you can't see because of the reflection. It's too bright. So here we are in Akihabara. You're going to hear another jingle, which is different than the one before. Let's get out of here.

00:13:07 John Daub: There's the UDX building. Akihabara. And guess where we are, everybody. This is Akihabara. You hear the music? I don't know what this is. Go Longhorns? And there's the train that's going right here. Let's say goodbye to the Yamanote line and then we'll get out of here. I love just hanging out on the platform sometimes to see the trains rolling in and out. I'm in no rush to get off of the platform. Thank you. Thank you, Yamanote line, for the beautiful nice waving goodbye. Say goodbye to the Yamanote line. Very cool. Thank you for taking us. It took about three minutes. Four minutes? That was easy. That was pretty easy. And there she goes. Austin writes in, are you going to play some games in Akihabara? I really don't know. And Vaughn writes in, snacks. I can work with that. All right, let's get out of here. You ready for Akihabara shopping?

00:14:30 Kanae Daub: Yeah.

00:14:31 John Daub: Really? Are we shopping? I was not aware of that. This is the Keihin-Tohoku line the other way. This train will take you towards Omiya. But from Shinagawa on to where? Ueno? About to Ueno? This will take you to the same destinations and it's usually across the platform. So the Keihin-Tohoku line or the Yamanote line, the green one on the left side. Both of them will take you to the same place.

00:15:06 Kanae Daub: Same to Nippori. Then Keihin-Tohoku line go to the Saitama way. Oh, this is where you change for the Sobu line which goes to Chiba.

00:15:35 John Daub: What is this? Somebody dropped a doll. How you doing little guy? That's funny. All right. When you get there, you're going to the Showa Dori. So if you get to Akihabara station, walk along the platform just to make sure that you find the right exit. Because it's good to start off in the right direction. This one goes down. It says here, Electric Town. SNZ writes in, get a snack with Kanae. Oh, this is one of these things that turn into a walk-alator, these escalators. Oh, this is going to be cool.

00:16:39 John Daub: That toy looks like a Ben Affleck playing Fred Flintstone. That's really funny. Antonio Basinga Vlogs writes in, hi, I really love your videos. I'm excited to receive my postcard. Yes, it's on the way. I sent it a few days ago. And then the package is... Your package is the one that Kanae and I just took to the...

00:17:03 Matthew: Hello. Hello. Hi. Matthew. Nice to meet you, Matthew. I'm actually following you live. Wow. That's crazy. So funny. That's me. I'm on TV. I didn't expect you to actually be here.

00:17:21 John Daub: Yeah. How long have you been in Japan?

00:17:23 Matthew: About a year now. Yeah, I live in Soba.

00:17:27 John Daub: So I'm actually heading back home now. Sobu line? We're teaching people how to get around to Akihabara. This seems like the number one destination. What brings you to Akihabara?

00:17:40 Matthew: Wandering. It's my day off, so...

00:17:45 John Daub: And what do you do here in Japan?

00:17:47 Matthew: I teach English. I work at a mobile.

00:17:56 John Daub: It's a long way away. I did Gaba and Aeon for a very long time. I'm free now. Very cool. Pleasure to meet you. Pleasure's all ours. Thank you very much. Take that. See you. Very cool. So he lives here in Japan. I like it when people find us. It's interesting, right? Very interesting. And everyone... And he had us on the video. That's pretty cool. That's why you get the notifications and watch us live. It's always a little bit better. Akihabara Station is massive. It's pretty big. This is weird, Kanae. This is a DC Comics pop-up store. Do you see this? A DC Comics pop-up store? Why? I don't want a T-shirt. I got a T-shirt. Do you want a T-shirt? No? No, you're not a Batgirl? They did that once. Superwoman. That was Helen Slater from Supergirl. She looked like Princess Diana. She played Supergirl in the first one.

00:19:04 John Daub: So these are the two lines that we came here towards Ueno, the Keihin-Tohoku Line and the Yamanote Line. Both of them going towards Ueno if you get on at Tokyo Station. So you can see the line. It's the same line as Tabata. Oh, okay. So it changes at Tabata and then this one will keep going until Omiya. You don't want to go there unless you're going to the Bonsai Museum, which is where I went last time. And then the Yamanote Line at Tabata will continue going around towards the Ikebukuro. So thank you for guiding us, Kanae. Will you take us to get a cream brulee donut?

00:19:46 Kanae Daub: It's Showa Dori exit. But we are in Denki.

00:19:51 John Daub: What should we do? Let's take the Showa exit. Well, there's more food at the Showa exit, right? In front of Yodobashi. Okay, let's do it there. And then we'll whip around. I think we have to go up. Oh, we got to go up? Let's just go out here. We'll cross the street. I know a shortcut. I know a little bit more than her. I love the color of the Tohoku Shinkansen. That is the color of the Tohoku Shinkansen. It's such a badass train, the E5. Japanese know the model numbers, and so should you.

00:20:31 John Daub: Wait a second. Hold on. There's a valid... In English, so they're writing it for you, people who are watching, if you can't speak Japanese. Tokyo Metropolitan District Pass is now only 760 yen. For JR only, though. It does not include the subway. So that's a pretty good information. I guess if you live on the Yamanote... If you're staying at the Yamanote line, probably want a JR pass, but I prefer the metro because we live on a metro and a Toei network. Those one-day passes are 700 yen. But if you want to get a pass for all three, JR, metro, and Toei, it doesn't really work out unless you actually use all three because then it's like $15. We are free. Let us out. We're free. She wants a donut. Do you want a donut? You don't have to get a donut. You can get whatever you want. Also, you can get to Akihabara by the Hibiya Line. Or you could just ride a bicycle. Any questions? Whoa. That's like a brand new... That's one of the newer vending machines. Look at that thing. This is a panel upgrade. It's massive! I have never seen like this vending machine. They put all the new stuff here because it's known for electronics. There's a sensor up here, a camera. I heard that will detect your sex and will make suggestions sometimes.

00:22:18 Kanae Daub: So easy. We can only use IC card. Oh there's a sensor. That's a QR code reader. Oh look at that corn soup. Apple. And you can download the application and get it. It's pretty cool.

00:22:31 John Daub: Ralph writes in, hey John is Akihabara's crowd as Shibuya during Halloween? You're gonna find out right now. I don't think so. Akihabara is um not as crowded as Shibuya because there's no real event for Halloween here whereas in Shibuya they've actually prepared for it. No alcohol this year which is a good thing. It gets a little bit out of hand and if it keeps getting bad it's gonna be a little bit of a problem. But if it gets bad like you know fights and tipping over kei cars and things like this they might just cancel the Shibuya Halloween all together next year which would be a big shame. This year is I believe still the biggest electronics store in the world, Yodobashi Camera Akihabara or as locals call it just Akiba, Yodobashi Akiba. It is beautiful at night here and there's a corridor here. Do you see that? I always... Do you want the cream brulee or do you want to get like sushi cake? No sushi cake for us. All right this is where you get the sushi cake. I've like been here before in other live streams. Yeah Jennifer and I ate the sushi ramen. And uh well there's the sushi cake it's still the same price and the next door is the sushi cake. Whoa that's meat you see that looks like wagyu it's actually cake. And they prepare it inside of the leaves how cool is that? They also have soba and udon looks like cup noodles katsu curry oh man can I we gotta come back and do this that looks like real katsu curry. I don't know what do you guys think I might just I should get one just that I don't know how they make it. These are apple gyoza it's actually apple I believe. And then this is chukadon no this is a miso tonkatsu and cake they take a Chinese cuisine and made a cake out of it. It looks very cute I know that's why I'm saying should we try this? What do you want the cream brulee? All right I don't know the internet is going get this oh really the internet wants what they want. All right let's wait in line. Wait in line here the internet wants what it wants. All right you wait in line here and I'm going to show them the Halloween and I'm going to show them the cream brulee donuts all right and then we'll make a decision about first yeah but the line's too long for a live stream I don't think that 900 people are going to wait for us. You cannot smell what I smell right now you do not know the pleasure that's going through these nostrils as they oh my gosh over there do you see them do you see that they just bruleed them with a blow torch and then right there there. That's where they reside on a tray. Cream brulee donuts with custard.

00:26:34 John Daub: Hey everybody, I reset because we had a zooming problem. I'm gonna go back to my pleasure zone right here. Do you see them right there? That is a cream brulee donut and they're on sale for 140 yen. And then they're cream bruleeing them with a blowtorch right there. Do you see that? It's a long wait. Sorry, sometimes the app is broken. Kanae's waiting in line there and I'm just gonna wait for like a minute and if it's too long or too painful of a wait, we're just gonna get there. I'm gonna see which one's faster. Oh, they're bruleeing it. Is that a... Can you verbalize? They're bruleeing these donuts. Wait till he gets the blowtorch. Oh, he's doing it right now. Do it, dude. Yes! Brulee. This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my entire life. Ah. And every time they brulee them, the wonderful smell comes into the air. I think we're gonna have to get this now. Does this beat the sushi cake? What do you think? Oh my. A Kanae. I called Kanae over here. I think the donuts win. I think the donuts win because it looks better. We can't get both because we gotta... After this, we're eating dinner with your dad, right? So we gotta eat dinner with her dad, so... We'll try it next time. Because I don't know... Oh, dude, move, move. Okay. I'm just obsessed right now with... Anything with a blowtorch? I love that. You guys want this blowtorch donut, don't you? Donut's definitely when Molly and Victor writes in. I cannot argue with Molly and Victor. The line is long, Kanae.

00:29:00 Kanae Daub: Yes.

00:29:06 John Daub: And this Jennifer-inspired French copyright music is not making me happy either. This is not France. This is Yodobashi Camera. All right. Some of the other stuff that they have in here, while we have some time, John needs a shave. This is Papabless, which was all the rave about 10, 15 years ago. And now, the rave has gone down. It's still a popular place to get.

00:29:27 Kanae Daub: Yeah, I like this one, too. It's good, though. You have Papabless?

00:29:31 John Daub: Yeah. They used to have a Papabless drink, where it was like custard in a can. It was really good. I don't think they have that anymore. They have takoyaki at the end of this alley. Takoyaki is so good. And then in between, there's another donut shop, which is not quite as popular as this one. But I didn't... Only on Sunday is there a line with... I mean, it looks like Disneyland. They have this thing here to make sure that people don't barge in the line. But, look at this. Check that out. Donuts from another galaxy. They have a super sale today. Oh, yeah. Everything's on sale. That's why there's a big line. Kanae, that looks like Planet Earth from a weather radar. I want a weather radar donut. No, that's a weather radar donut. Donut Earth. The internet is naming these. It's popular in America. They load. Are you sure?

00:30:34 Kanae Daub: Yeah.

00:30:34 John Daub: Any American watching this, are these galaxy donuts popular in the United States? Chime in and let us know in the live stream. It says here, America Day. And then you can get a... Oh, yeah. Galaxy donuts. Like, it's famous in America. Never heard of them. Never heard of them. They're bruléing them. Check this out. We're getting closer and closer. We're getting more and more delicious. Are you going to get cream of the donut?

00:31:12 Kanae Daub: Yeah. You want one or you want something else? Yeah, I want to try that cream brulee. I can't wait. I think everyone's ordering like a dozen donuts. We just want one. Can you get them fresh? I want one that's just been torched. This is the food of kings. That's why kings are always a little bit overweight. Remember Henry the Eighth? A lot of pot pies. I wonder if they had brulee donuts if he would partake and how many he could... I bet you, if he was a YouTuber, he would... He would be so popular. Like, 10 million subs. Whoa! She put that down. She touched it and it settled down like a high-quality piece of sushi. Oh, my. Yeah, let's get to 300 likes, everybody. If you like... If you want to see Kanae eat one, and I do, we need 300 likes. We can do that. I think I always ask too much. Oh, my. Oh, my. I'm getting closer. Only thing between me and this donut is... Is... It's plastic glass right now. Wow. The inspection, it failed. That one failed. It needed an extra cream job. We're getting closer. We're right in front of the blowtorch. Here it goes. Ready? Oh, my. I want this job. One for me, one for customer. Wow.

00:33:18 Kanae Daub: Kanai's dad doesn't like sweet donuts, does he? He likes them. Should we get him one too then? Yeah.

00:33:28 John Daub: It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Can I? You and a donut. I could watch this all day. Yeah, I want to buy. How many can you eat now? By watching it, do you want more?

00:33:43 Kanae Daub: One. Just one?

00:33:59 John Daub: By the whole tray. Charles. Charles and I are thinking alike. I wonder how many Randy Santel or some of the other YouTube food eaters, food challengers can eat in one sitting. They have a pretty good selection. Premium matcha looks good. 99 yen. Down here they have some old fashioned which are more like cake. This is a glazed fashion. And the matcha fashion. I like it. It's not too green. Sometimes they overdo. They overdo it with the food coloring. This looks more natural when it's like that. I guess not too much green tea. This is a premium berry. Looks like they're using really good ingredients with this. Ah, oliebollen. That's Dutch. I remember I've had a lot of oliebollen in Amsterdam. Carlos is saying stop tempting us. Chocolate donut looks good too. How many donuts can we buy with a thousand? I really want to eat oliebollen. Really? This is the best selling point. Inside custard cream. You need the arrow. Without the arrow I would not understand what's inside. I'm very seriously hungry now. Which one are you going to get?

00:35:36 Kanae Daub: Yeah, Crème brûlée. Try Crème brûlée. It seems good too. Unlimited chocolate donuts. Get them both? This blows Krispy Kreme out.

00:35:52 John Daub: We have Krispy Kreme here. When Krispy Kreme opened about 10 years ago, there was a line four hours long to get one donut. Now no one's waiting. But they're overpriced for I think what it is. Right? I think it's a little overpriced. This is cheaper than Krispy Kreme and this looks so much better. Buy one, enjoy. Fluffy cat. I'm so grateful for your generosity and sharing your experience. And inviting us along. Mahalo. Fluffy cat, thank you very much. Mahalo. Three? Yeah. I'll buy you three. I'll take three. Thank you. Three crème brûlée donuts. Chocolate donuts. I'll take one chocolate donut. It's 586 yen. They take credit cards. 514 yen.

00:37:25 John Daub: We got crème brûlée donuts. We got crème brûlée donuts. Can I? What do you have? I got the crème brûlée donuts. Hello. We've been watching you. Oh really? Now everyone's watching you. They don't have crème brûlée donuts. We do. Should we share with them? No. No sharing. This is a festive place I think to eat our donuts. You should not eat your donuts walking, stand somewhere, and watch the Shinkansen go by, and eat your donuts with a shinkansen. And point your donuts at the Shinkansen passengers and say, we have crème brûlée donuts. Just saying. Tourists love Akihabara. This is a reason to take the train to come to Akihabara, just for the crème brûlée donuts. Jack in the Donut. Not Jack in the Box, which is a West Coast fast food chain from the 1970s, I think went out of business. Do they still have Jack in the Box? I can't wait. These fingers want a donut. I need sugar. Johnny needs sugar. I love her presentation skills. It's still warm, right? We just said we want one that's just been freshly blow torched. Let's do this here. This is crème brûlée donut with nature. Oh, this is such a beautiful thing. I'm going to rename this just crème brûlée donut run. If John doesn't eat sugar, he passes out and you'll find him in the garden right here on the side of the road. You want to go first?

00:39:43 Kanae Daub: Alright. Remember, you have to have that crazy, really excited YouTuber face. Mmmmm. Those are two hamster bites. I can fit it in my mouth in one bite. Springy. Fuafua. Fuafua means like a blanket, right? Very soft and fluffy. Fuafua. Yeah. Good. You have some here. No one's watching. Doesn't matter.

00:40:33 John Daub: Alright. Let's give this a try. Fuafua. Oh, man. There's the Tohoku Shinkansen coming in. Oh. Lookit. That's my one bite. Compare that to six of hers. What makes this really good, not the custard and not the donut, it's the crispy sugar on the top of it that's been... I don't think it's a word. Brûlée'd. And the brûlée crispiness is what makes this worth $1.50. I cannot believe it. It's usually 250 yen, but it's $1.50, 150 yen today. So we got cream brûlée donuts. Is it better than Krispy Kreme?

00:41:29 Kanae Daub: Krispy Kreme is better.

00:41:30 John Daub: It's a pretty bold statement. Krispy Kreme's got a lot of fans, Kanae. You don't want to fight with them. Yeah, but I like Krispy Kreme donuts too. They got good Halloween stuff right now. I like this one. Is this a chain? Is this... that came from America? I don't know. Jack in the Donuts sounds like a chain. Could be a chain. Even if it was or it wasn't, Londres Evans, that's like enough to get another donut. Much appreciated. Are you done? I could eat the paper. You're not done? What? There's like a... I had a T-Rex bite. You take hamster bites. You need to eat it with both hands like a hamster. Like this. Oh, hey! I see you from reverse. Hello. Thank you. I saw the pop-up that you were live. Say hi. Cross the street. Where are you visiting from?

00:43:05 Laura: Hershey, Pennsylvania.

00:43:06 John Daub: Very cool. Did you bring any chocolate? You have to ask. It's great being there because it smells like chocolate. It's kind of nice. That's pretty good because we just had cream brulee donuts right there. Are they good? Jack in the Donuts. He said good. It's really good. Nice to meet you. See you guys. Just when you said Hershey, Pennsylvania, I got a sugar rush. Or was it the donut we just ate? Oh, here comes the other Shinkansen. This one is the Hokuriku Shinkansen that goes to Kanazawa. Coming into Tokyo Station. Very cool. See, when you go live, we should do a meetup in Akihabara. Halloween meetup on 31st. I'm not saying I'm doing it, but people seem to be here in Akihabara. So that makes it easy. What time is it, Dad? 6.30. Let's cross the street, Kanae. Oh, that's right. Kanae is still eating. Let's not cross the street, Kanae. It's because we got a blue light here. Not gonna make it. But never rush a lady. There's always another lady. Don't eat your papa's, okay? I saw you taking an extra grab. That's for papa.

00:44:47 John Daub: Alright. It's time now for extended. If we can get... This is what I hold the audience ransom. If we can get to 500 likes right now, I will take you to what would considered to be paradise for otaku. I will take you to the Denki Town exit entrance, which is just a tunnel way away. If you are into this, I need these 500 likes. You must pay the piper. And I don't have a pipe, but I've got Kanae. Pay the piper. Pay! Pay it forward. I will take you there. In route. Such a small price to pay. Click the like button. Small price. It's not even a price, really. I'm so excited. I get so excited. Are you watching live? You tracked us down! What? We're across the street. Hello. Nice to meet you. Hi, I'm John.

00:45:56 Laura: I'm Laura. Hi, nice to meet you. I'm not really shaking because we were eating brulee donuts.

00:46:02 John Daub: There's the internet. You can get one of those donuts. They look really good. Right there! Just keep going until you smell it. Amazing. Perfect. Thank you so much. You're welcome. Where are you visiting from?

00:46:12 Laura: We live in Sweden, but... I'm from Spain. I'm from the United States. Stockholm. I have friends in Uppsala. Oh, sure. That's close by. Yeah. So University Town. They like to drink. A lot. Hello everyone in Uppsala, Sweden. How long are you here for? A week. A week. Why Akihabara? I just was showing her around. I've been here three years ago. Just showing her everything. Akihabara is a place to be, I guess. Are you into manga and anime? Not really. You have to come here and see. Like the atmosphere. Exactly. Exactly. There's a vibe here. It's electric. Because you're standing in front of the electric town. Well, great. Nice to meet you guys. Thank you so much. Have a good trip. Bye. That's awesome. There they go. I forgot my You Found Me on a livestream cards. I made some cards. I haven't used them yet. Which way should we go? Should we go the long way? We still haven't gotten 500 likes.

00:47:36 Kanae Daub: Yeah. I want to go to the electric street. Feel the power.

00:47:49 John Daub: We have a rule. I cannot have the camera focused on Kanae for more than 5 seconds. We both are getting over a cold. She's at the end stage and I'm at the... We're both at the end stage, but Kanae is more completely finished. This is the way to get there, Kanae. But we have to run through here. Because the signal's gonna die. Can we... We got five minutes. 500 likes. Kanae, we gotta do it now. Now I changed my mind. It's 1000. No, no, no. Let's go real quickly through here. And we're gonna have to kind of walk fast and run, okay? First? Yeah, because I have a sugar high. I have no choice. Alright, let's do this. Go quickly. I am gonna be careful, but the signal is really bad in there. Sugar high. Oh, UFO catcher. More UFO catchers. Crepes. It's like Disneyland over here. Refresh your browsers. Refresh your browsers. The stalkers. No, no, no. Well, run from him. What? Very, very talented individual. How long before the police come? What do you think? Are these Halloween people or actual maids? Halloween, yeah. The reception has nothing to do with the iPhone. It has to do with the 100,000 people that are here outside. Reception is always gonna be bad. What is that pose there, dude? No, I'm good. Do you wanna take a photo with them? Welcome to Akihabara Electric Town. Welcome to Akihabara Electric Town. This is the exit that's infamous. That's Radio Kaikan. Radio Kaikan has been renovated. Used to be a really old light. It was really up close to the street. And now they've moved it back to allow for the influx of tourists that come here. Because it's, you know, Akihabara. It's very bright here. And if you don't refresh your screen, you're watching this in Minecraft quality, which is nothing wrong if you play Minecraft. But it's a lot. It's not refreshing. But it's fun if you refresh. Is that the Marshmallow Man? Nick Rees, thank you. This is, um... I don't know. Do you like Akihabara?

00:51:42 Kanae Daub: Yeah. Because it's my neighbor, too. Yeah, this is their neighborhood. Taito Ward. Chiyoda Ward. It's a border town. Border. Yeah, I kind of like it for the electronics.

00:52:04 John Daub: I'm kind of on Scotty's Strange Parts side. I like the electronics side of it. The history of appliances and computers. I'm not really into the manga and anime side of it. Um, but recently, not recently, but over the last 10 years, Akihabara has been moving from electronics towards the manga anime. And most electronics you can get off of Amazon. And when we do go shopping, I'm probably more frequently shopping off of Amazon than I am at stores these days. Ah, there's the Halloween people. Trick or treat. They look like they're in for some tricks. What do you think? Following the Halloweeners. Kanae, you don't want to dress up? I'm wearing a costume. I'm a YouTuber. You do Halloween body? I don't know. Oh look, she's a cop. There's a police officer. She's got handcuffs. Kanae, she has handcuffs. Who's she gonna arrest? She's got handcuffs. Hold on, I gotta check this out. I wonder if she's gonna arrest somebody. Why does she have handcuffs? I don't know. Where do we meet Papa? Around here?

00:54:24 Tony: Hi John. I'm one of the YouTubers. Nice to meet you. I'm one of your viewers. Hi, welcome. I was chasing after you guys. I like that t-shirt. Thank you. This is a Mickey Mouse. It's Mickey Mouse and pizza. How cool is that? Where are you from? America, California. So you guys are just going around town? Yeah, the purpose of this is to show people how to get to Akihabara from Tokyo Station. We've completed our mission, however, we're just still going. That's cool. How long are you here for? Two weeks and a half. What have you seen? We've been to Odaiba. Destination of the space boat. Yes. Very cool. And how long are you here for? Two weeks and a half. But I'll be leaving in like 11 days from now. 11 days. That's a lot of time. You could do a lot of stuff in 11 days. Do you go to other prefecture? Just Tokyo. I'm focusing Tokyo. Oh, good. Cool. Do you have any recommendations for us to see here in Akihabara? I would say the Sega. Sega World over here? There's like three or four different... Yes. Are you going to Shibuya for the Halloween thing? Maybe. I might go, yes. Okay. I might not. It's going to blow your mind. Yeah, last year it was crazy. You don't do live streaming? I'm not going there. You kidding me? You go there, you get in trouble. Trouble. What's your name? Tony. Nice to meet you, Tony. I have a YouTube channel as well. You want to plug it? It's Tony Bolognese with an S. Tony Bolognese with the S. Alright, go check it out. Thank you so much, Tony. Have fun. Good luck in Shibuya.

00:56:23 Keith: Sorry, another one. Hi. Just wanted to say hi. I've been watching your streams. Happened to be in Japan. Keith. Yeah, today's my last day. Wow, last day. Also, I'm going to Shibuya for dinner. I saw you on the live stream and I thought you'd stop by. Thank you. Okay. On your way. Where are you from? Singapore. We got a lot of viewers from Singapore. Can I love Singapore? You would love California if she's ever been there. But we've only ever been to Singapore. It's live! I'm here. I'm watching you on the stream. You're on TV. Yes, I was watching. Very cool. Okay, I wasn't disturbing you. You're not disturbing us at all. So if you ever stay in Los Angeles, Oh yeah. We can give you a good deal on the rooms. Okay, cool. I work at a hotel. And my brother's the manager. Tita Inn. T-I-T-A-I-N-N in L.A. Just let us know. And we'll be more than glad to help you out. Thank you. Peter. Tony. I'm Tony. How did that happen? He's my brother. He's actually watching your stream right now. Hey Peter. How you doing? From Japan. There's Tony. Very cool. Thank you. I'm dying for an In-N-Out burger. I've never had one. Yeah, you should. That's one of the staples of California. In-N-Out burger. Top 10 must have things.

00:58:12 Australians: Hi. Hi. We just stumbled on you. So we've actually seen you on YouTube. Oh wow. Very cool. Hi. Hello. Welcome to Japan. Second time here. From Australia. The accent gave it away. This would be, we're going back on the 30th. Like leave on the 30th. So we'll be here about 16 days. What's something that you've seen that everyone must visit? What I believe. Depends on what you're after. So if you like say figurines, Akihabara's good. I recommend Nakano Broadway. Nakano Broadway, yeah. It's a good place. Depends on what you're after. I'm always after food. Food. I'm going to Osaka. Osaka for food. That's very good suggestion. That's excellent suggestion. Osaka is Japan's kitchen when it comes to food. And if you want fake food, head to Kappabashi Street. Kappabashi, yeah. You know very well this is your second time. We're here for the motor show. I came this way. The auto salon? The Tokyo one. Did you see the Mercedes? My friend, what's inside? He got a chance to drive this. What do you call those cars? The AI one. The AI cars. The fake ones that no one actually drives. Concept cars. Very cool concept cars. Cool. I won't keep you longer. No. Where are you headed now? We're going to meet a friend. Head to the Gachapon Hall. Are you going to Gachapon Hall? Say hi to the owner. Only in Japan says hello. He knows me very well. Nice guy, older. He's got grey hair. He's behind the desk. So we're going to be on YouTube. You're on YouTube right now. Thank you so much. Have a good trip. See ya. Awesome! From Australia. So we met people from Singapore, Australia, Southern California, and from Spain. And they lived in Sweden. Pennsylvania from Hershey. This is awesome. Very awesome. So that means we're going to end the live stream because we've met half the people visiting Tokyo right now. Which is very cool.

01:00:48 John Daub: Behind here at the Kentucky Fried Chicken is the Christmas vending machine. That's where I call it a Christmas vending machine. But it's a mystery vending machine where you can get random stuff for a thousand yen. I know the owner. He showed me what was inside of it which is pretty cool in a main channel episode. And this is Sega. And this is where we say goodbye on Halloween. Well, a few days from it. What's the vibe like here? I think you probably want to go to Shibuya if you're into the Halloween spirit. If you're not, then yeah. Akihabara is pretty cool. Just to walk the streets on a Sunday evening. Kind of fun. The magnificent meal. John, keep up the good work. Really enjoy the live stream. It's like it's from Denmark. Denmark. We have a friend from Denmark who lives in Copenhagen and he was teaching us some Danish. That's so cool. Thank you so much for that. David Kimura is in the house. David's the one who's always giving me super chats to buy you stuff. Thank you, David. We really appreciate it. Let's stop right here and we can say goodbye to everybody. Akihabara is a pretty cool spot. Akihabara is super bright. This is where the Chuo Line comes by. The Chuo Line. Sorry, is that the Chuo Line? It will come by here every... Sobu Line. This is Sobu Line making its way. It's pretty cool. It's an iconic view. This is Akihabara. In this we successfully, in five minutes, came here. But we kept the stream going for an hour. Because we love you. We love Akihabara. And I hope you have a really, really good night. See you in the next live stream, everybody. Bye from Akihabara.
