Sapporo Snow White Out in Susukino

Overview

In this immersive winter vlog, John Daub takes viewers directly into the heart of a massive blizzard in Sapporo, Hokkaido, during the 2020 Snow Festival. Accompanied by his wife Kanae, John braves the whiteout conditions in the Susukino entertainment district to showcase the reality of Hokkaido winter weather. The video captures the intensity of the snowstorm, with visibility reduced to near zero and snow accumulating rapidly on everything including eyelashes and camera gear.

Beyond the weather, the episode highlights the vibrant atmosphere of the Snow Festival despite the conditions. John and Kanae examine intricate ice sculptures sponsored by major companies like Nitori and Sushi Zanmai, featuring frozen seafood and illuminated designs. The walk becomes a series of spontaneous fan meetups, as viewers from Texas, London, Chile, and Malaysia recognize John on the street, turning the vlog into a global gathering amidst the snow.

The conversation covers practical travel topics, including winter gear recommendations, driving safety in Hokkaido, and upcoming travel plans to Kitami for a Yakiniku festival. John also discusses the impact of his previous videos on tourism at locations like Ramen Yokochou, reflecting on the responsibility of content creators. The episode concludes with the group heading toward warmth and ramen, embodying the cozy resilience of winter travel in Japan.

Japan Travel Tips

  • Winter Gear: John emphasizes the need for proper gloves; his hands became too numb to operate the camera. Heat Tech or BlockTech (Uniqlo) is recommended for layering.
  • Snow Festival Timing: The festival occurs in February. John notes that snow conditions can vary wildly; January had little snow, but February dumped everything in one night.
  • Ramen Yokochou: The Ganso Ramen Yokochou can get crowded with tourists. John acknowledges his previous videos contributed to the crowds.
  • Driving in Hokkaido: Renting a car in winter requires caution. John mentions Kanae's warning about sliding on snow and falling into rivers. Delivery trucks can slide even when parked.
  • Masks: In February 2020, masks were becoming scarce due to the coronavirus outbreak. John notes standard masks may not feel good in extreme cold.

Japanese Language & Culture Notes

  • Susukino (すすきの): Sapporo's main entertainment and nightlife district, comparable to Shibuya in Tokyo but with a northern winter vibe.
  • Ramen Yokochou (ラーメン横丁): Literally "Ramen Alley." Narrow streets filled with small ramen shops. A iconic Sapporo destination.
  • Kaze hikanai (風邪ひかない): A common phrase meaning "Don't catch a cold." Used frequently as a parting wish in winter.
  • Daimyo (大名): Historically feudal lords. John mentions sending "daimyo packages," likely referring to large gift shipments or a specific community inside joke regarding gifts.
  • Yakiniku (焼肉): Japanese style BBQ. John plans to attend a festival in Kitami where 2,000 people eat BBQ in minus 20 degree weather.

Food & Drink Guide

  • Ramen: The primary goal of the night. Fans mention visiting Ganso Ramen Yokochou based on John's recommendations.
  • Sushi: Mentioned by Texas fans as a favorite. John shows ice sculptures featuring real fish and crabs frozen by Sushi Zanmai.
  • Yakiniku: John plans to travel to Kitami specifically for a Yakiniku festival in extreme cold.
  • Shabu Shabu: Mentioned by fans as a favorite hot pot dish.
  • Sapporo Beer: Featured in an ice sculpture celebrating two mugs of beer.
  • Kakigori (かき氷): Shaved ice. John jokes about making it from the snow falling around them.

People

  • John Daub: Host. Braving the blizzard to document the Snow Festival and meet viewers.
  • Kanae Daub: John's wife. Joins him in the snow, keeps him grounded, and manages the computer/work logistics.
  • Matsumi: A viewer/fan who meets John in a shopping building. Discusses microphone gear with John.
  • Texas Fans (Tommy & Family): Viewers from San Antonio/Omori who planned their trip based on John's hitchhiking videos.
  • London Family: Viewers on a mission to find John. Receive "You Found Me" cards.
  • Chilean Visitor: Met near the end, heading to Ramen Alley.
  • Malaysian Guest: Briefly encountered, leaving for Tokyo the next day.

Key Takeaways

  • Weather Volatility: Hokkaido weather can change drastically; the Snow Festival relies on snow that may not arrive until late January or February.
  • Community Impact: John's videos directly influence tourist behavior, such as crowds at Ramen Yokochou.
  • Resilience: Locals and visitors alike continue activities (shopping, eating, filming) despite severe blizzard conditions.
  • Gear Matters: Consumer electronics like iPhones handle wet weather well, but human hands need protection to operate them in minus 7 degree weather.

Notable Quotes

  • 00:00:01 "Yeah, welcome to Sapporo everybody. You see that out there? That is a snowstorm."

00:00:01 John Daub: Yeah, welcome to Sapporo everybody. You see that out there? That is a snowstorm. I don't know if that would be considered a whiteout, but you can see from here it's pretty heavy going with the snow. And I'm gonna take you outside and show you what it's like here in Sapporo, here in Hokkaido in the winter.

00:00:26 John Daub: Follow the people. Was she wearing shorts? Oh my. And look who it is through the snow. It's Kanae. How you doing Marty? Kanae. Good evening. Have you ever seen this much snow? No. Look at this hat. Totally. From our hotel room guys, I can't even see out the window. So, look at it. People have umbrellas. This is Susukino (entertainment district), which is great. I guess it would be like the entertainment district of Sapporo. A lot of neon lights. It's sort of like Shibuya, I guess. That kind of a feeling to it. But I thought I would just show you here for 10-15 minutes or so what it's like.

00:01:26 John Daub: Now, it's interesting. Listen. You don't need gloves? I don't need gloves. Oh my gosh. Not yet. Hey, I just ran around naked in minus 7 degree weather yesterday. Okay, listen. The whole month of January, it didn't really snow anywhere in Japan. It was like, you didn't really get any snow, right? No. Like, we thought that maybe the snow festival would have no snow. Guess what? The entire month of January decided to dump on February in one night. It's awesome. This is pretty epic. Look at my eye. My eyelashes have snow. That's not normal. It's weird. What do you guys think? What do our friends in Singapore think? They don't got any snow there. Yeah. So let's look around. The snow festival is going on. Kanae and I are going to go to the... look and try to get some ramen. Maybe go to the Ramen Yokochou (ramen alley). I'm not sure yet.

00:02:27 John Daub: It's kind of touristy. But... oh, there's the Nikka whisky. Hold on a second. Kanae, this is very famous for the people. Yeah, the Nikka whisky sign. Snow coming right into your face. As an Aussie, I'm impressed. I love reading some of the comments here. Dying of heat in the Dominican Republic. Hey, for everybody in the Dominican Republic, have some snow. Have a Coke on me. Sorry to hear about the heat wave. But this is not awesome to share with... I think I had to go live with this. I was debating whether or not to do it. And Kanae's like, I'm hungry. I'm like, yeah, open your mouth and go. I'm like, I'm going to get some snow. Ah! It's cold.

00:03:21 John Daub: All right. Let's take people a little bit... now, Susukino... I'm going to show you some of the snow festival tomorrow. But I wanted to show you some of the stuff that they have going on here in Susukino for the snow festival. They're mostly ice sculptures. This one, in the beginning, they always have Sushi Zanmai. Is it Sushi Zanmai again? I think so. As Australia goes through a heat wave, we are having a cold wave. It's supposed to get down to like minus 20 next week. I know! This is the one from Sushi Zanmai. You see this? What they do is they put some of the fish that they catch and they put it into ice. And these are real fish and real crabs. Just immobilized in ice. It's interesting. Ice aquarium.

00:04:16 John Daub: And over there is our buddy. The guy who pays over a million dollars for the first tuna at auction. I have a lot of respect for that guy. He knows how to build a business. Whoa! Look at the bike! Forget the snow sculptures. This is awesome! That's art. Urban art. I see the beauty in everything except for the ice sculptures that I'm supposed to be admiring. Alright, let's go back to the ice sculptures. It's pretty crazy right now. The amount of snow. And my gimbal is getting snowy. Thankfully the iPhone does a pretty good job in wet weather.

00:05:20 John Daub: Florencia writes in, amazing. Isn't it though? I heard some people in Thailand, they were freaking out. Because they have never seen snow before. We saw some Thai people from Thailand visiting. This is amazing. You see the snow sculptures? That's a lobster? You said robster. Actually, it's pronounced robster. Rob-oo-sta. Lobster. On ice. Oh, look at the beer! Celebrating two mugs of beer. That's gotta be beer. On ice. That's right, the iPhone won't be overheating. As I said, the entertainment district. That's Sapporo right there. That's Susukino and Sapporo.

00:06:17 John Daub: Hey, that's vandalism, Kanae. You just took... Oh, sorry. She's gonna get revenge on me. Hey, everybody. Everyone having a heat wave. Are you having a heat wave? Take the... There you go. It's right into the camera. Sorry. Oh, you wanna make a kakigori (shaved ice)? Oh, my hands are getting red. This is pretty, pretty amazing.

00:07:01 Matsumi: Hey, I know who you are! That's Matsumi!

00:07:03 John Daub: Are you... Were you still eating? I'm actually, like, inside this mall right here, this shopping building. Now you get a You Found Me card for real. Oh, it's okay. Where's your friend? They're actually shopping inside. Oh, really? This is crazy, isn't it? Right? Yeah, the blizzard is crazy today. I know. Look at her hat. It's, like, all white. Yeah. Her hair is all white, too.

00:07:43 John Daub: So, I wanted to ask you something. I'm like, oh, I'm gonna go to the store. Uh, the suggestion for the mics...

00:07:46 Matsumi: Uh-huh. Look at my eyebrows!

00:07:49 John Daub: So, the suggestion for the mics was from Matsumi, who told me about the lavalier mics, but maybe tomorrow is better, because she wants me to use it.

00:07:58 Matsumi: I don't know. Yeah, I mean, I have my own set, so maybe you could try that one and see if that one works better for you. If it doesn't, you could just swap it, and then I just reinsert...

00:08:05 John Daub: No, I'm not gonna take your mics! No, because I could just return the other one, and get it replaced. It's easier for me to do that than you. I think the president of the company is watching. That would be, like... That would be like a deal. That would be bad. That would be bad. I'm open to anything. But if it's a bad set, it's a bad set, right? I think there's something wrong with it. Yeah, you shouldn't have one drop so much lower than the other. Thankfully, I talk twice as loud as most people, but I should be the one getting the one that's not as loud.

00:08:36 John Daub: Do you want to walk with us for a couple minutes?

00:08:39 Matsumi: Sure. We were going to go get some ramen. Oh, I was there yesterday.

00:08:46 John Daub: The Ganso Ramen Yokochou? I can't even see. It's like in my face. It must be crowded with foreigners, right? It really was. That's all my fault because that video, I was one of the first people, I got permission from all the shops to film. And I was one of the first people to film from there besides Anthony Bourdain did a series there. And then after that, it was just ruined. That video had like a million views in a week, I think. Sorry, people. I ruined. Actually, Ramen Ganso Yokochou was filled with tourists before I got there, to be honest with you. I just helped push it a little further.

00:09:28 Matsumi: Oh, he's fixing it up there. Actually, in my own livestream here later. Yeah. I did the other one already. I just haven't done over here. What's your channel? You want to plug it?

00:09:40 John Daub: It's actually not my channel. It's actually my daughter's channel. It's Shirelia. Oh, okay. It's the competitor. We can't promote that. Sorry, never mind. Twitch. It's Twitch. What's Twitch? Never heard of Twitch. Twitch? How do you spell that? Y-O-U-T-U-B-E. Twitch.

00:10:06 John Daub: Their staff. They're filming people filming other things. Yeah, there's actually, yesterday over at the main area, there was a ton of cameras there. Yeah? I think HTB was the Hokkaido television. Yeah. It was the live simulcasting from Odori Park. Yeah, we didn't see, it's been snowing like this all day. We didn't see much because our faces were like, I mean it was there, we were like this. Do you see it, Kanae? I don't see anything. Do you see it? She's like, no. Can you take a picture? Look at my eyes. You have like snow on your eyelashes. I know. Yeah. Ah. Ah. I can't feel my fingers. I have snow makeup now. I have snow makeup? That's good. That's an improvement.

00:11:02 John Daub: Yeah. So what are you gonna do in Sapporo for the next, how long you here for Matsumi?

00:11:08 Matsumi: I'm actually in Sapporo until Saturday.

00:11:16 John Daub: Okay. So, what's it, two more days? Three more days? Something like that. So, I'm gonna be here, Kanae and I are here tomorrow. We're gonna be filming an episode. Right, Kanae? A food episode. Cause she's hungry a lot. I'm gonna wait, I haven't seen her in like four days. And then we're gonna, um, and then after that, we're gonna send the daimyo packages from here. I'm just gonna send you this here from here. What, are you gonna be back in time? Um, we're leaving on the 8th. Okay, so it'll get there. We're sending the daimyo packages from here. Ah, there's one left on Patreon if you're interested. And then, um, uh, on the 7th, I'm going to Kitami. Oh, wow. I'm renting a car and I'm gonna go to Kitami, which is the very, very north of Japan near Abashiri. They have a Yakiniku festival. 2,000 people sitting in minus 20 degree weather barbecuing meat. That sounds amazing. It's like a dream come true. So, I'm gonna go and, I'm gonna go there and, um, film that. I got a ticket. They've been sold out for like a month. But I got a ticket from somebody and they said they'll save me a seat and the head of the Yakiniku organization up there says he'll work with me and, uh, give me a ticket. And then I'll do an interview and maybe some free meat. So, looking forward to that.

00:12:25 Matsumi: You kinda need a car to get up there though, right? I was gonna rent a car, but Kanae's like, don't you rent a car, it's so dangerous and you're gonna slide in the snow and fall into the river.

00:12:36 John Daub: Yeah, actually, talking about sliding in the snow, when I was in Niseko, I actually saw a big delivery truck parked on top of a, like, parked on a slope. Cool. Yeah, and then the delivery, the driver was actually delivering. And he was not in the truck, but then the truck was sliding down the hill. What?! Hey, you gotta do the, you gotta keep doing your job in Japan. Yeah. It's your responsibility. Unfortunately, the, um, the truck ended up hitting your car, so that wasn't too good.

00:13:04 John Daub: Alright, here we go. This is Nitori. Uh, is that Nitori? Nitori has, so, a lot of these, the snow sculptures are sponsored by companies. So that means they got the money to do a really good job. And what you see here is from Nitori. Nitori is a, um, like a furniture company. Yeah. Interior. Yeah. Interior, and, uh, I used to, it's a little cheaper. I used to buy my sofas and tables there, but now, uh, I've upgraded to Ikea, or Ikea in Japanese. I don't know if that's an upgrade, but it's different. But this is, Nitori is a nice company, and I like it. Look at, they put the light onto the ice sculptures, so you can see through it a little bit. It's kind of neat, but now there's so much snow on the sculptures that you really can't...

00:13:47 Matsumi: Hi.

00:13:52 John Daub: I'm in Nitori, so I saw you in the... I know! What? Welcome to Sapporo. Oh, it's right now? Yeah. Alright. Sorry. You don't want to be in the light? Okay, okay. Wait, no one can see you with the mask anyways. Yeah. Nice to see you. Nice to see you. I'll probably, maybe see you tomorrow, too.

00:14:10 Guest: No, no, no, I'm leaving for Tokyo tomorrow.

00:14:13 John Daub: Oh, okay. Yeah, where, where, where are you from again?

00:14:16 Guest: Malaysia.

00:14:16 John Daub: Oh, Malaysia. Yeah. I can't tell from the mask. Stay safe, yeah? See you later. See you later. Is that, is that, that was a Yit? I can't see from the mask. Was that Yit? Was that Yit? It is a symbol of the support... Yit, we met Yit at the airport, and then I think he came, he came to, uh...

00:14:38 John Daub: Oh, are you competing with me?

00:14:39 Kanae Daub: No, not...

00:14:41 John Daub: She's a competitor. Same cow, same cow. Good competitors encourage competition. Try to, yeah, Matsumi, compete with this. It's my Clint Eastwood. It's my Clint Eastwood. Go ahead, make my snow. And Joe here next to Clint Eastwood.

00:15:02 Kanae Daub: No.

00:15:03 John Daub: Kanae thinks my dad looks like Clint Eastwood, actually. Yeah. He said, doesn't... Yeah. Joe's dad... Looks like Clint Eastwood. Yeah. He does, if, when he squints, he does, he wears glasses, if he takes it off, and he goes... Go ahead. Very handsome. Make my day.

00:16:12 John Daub: It's a cocktail bar. Is it warm inside? It's good? Yeah, they got cocktails. They got cocktails in there. They have an ice smoking room. Oh yeah, I saw that! The ice smoking room. I don't think it's gonna burn down if someone leaves a cigarette in their trash can or something. I'm sure the insurance policy, they don't even need an insurance policy. This is a free service to take photos of the Susukino ice world. Susukino ice world.

00:17:01 John Daub: Wow! So we are just for those of you who are joining us, we are in Susukino. This is Sapporo, the entertainment district. And right now the Sapporo Snow Festival's going on. Those in the United States are asleep right now, right? Yeah, they should be sleeping. Yeah, we probably don't even have any moderators. I think they're all asleep. We had... Kanae needs to eat and I need to do some work tonight because she brought the computer. I gave my computer to her. Which means that I don't have a computer right now. So I got two days to work it. She's leaving on the 7th and I'm continuing my Hokkaido march up to Kitami. And then if the weather allows me to drive up more to the north because I want to really check out what deep Hokkaido is like in the winter. That's what it's all about. Marty, feed Kanae. Hashtag trending on Twitter. Marty writes in. We're going to put that to good use, Marty. Kaze hikanai. Yeah, kaze hikanai ne. So, wow, it's almost fell down. Thank you. Yeah. You know what? Don't catch a cold. Be careful, right? Oh, yeah.

00:18:17 John Daub: Are you wearing a mask ever?

00:18:20 Passerby: I actually do have a mask.

00:18:22 John Daub: Those don't work though against the coronavirus. These actually suck. But they feel good. They feel good. No, actually here they don't feel good. Because when you're here, because of the coronavirus, you're not going to be able to get a mask. Because of how cold it is. Yeah. It actually ends up. No, it was in Japan. Hey.

00:18:40 Texas Fans: We are such huge fans of yours, John. Hey, where are you from? Texas. Whoa. We live in Omori though. We watched so many of your episodes, we made a whole plan to come up here. We're here because of you. We watched you hitchhike. My son and I watched you hitchhike. Middle of the night in Texas, we watched you. Whoa. That's like two and a half years ago. Three years ago. We're huge fans.

00:19:01 John Daub: Hold on a second. Nice to meet you, Tommy. Great to meet you. Nice to meet you. We watched you in 2017 at the Buddha. Oh. I saw you broadcast it. I was like, where is he? Oh. That was, I'm thinking of going back this year, but conflicts with the Olympics a little bit. Your show's fantastic. You do such a good job. And you keep it clean too for the kids. That's important. I keep it clean. I try to. We're just having fun. Do you get weather like this in Texas?

00:19:32 Texas Fans: No. No. No. Never? No. It's hot. Not in San Antonio. Oh, San Antonio. That's hot. Yeah. It's very hot. But up in the Panhandle, it's weird, right? You get cold nights, but. Yeah. Yeah. We got here. We're about 90 minutes away and maybe get some skiing. Yeah, we're all. Yeah. Did you see the snow festival? Not yet. We just got here. We just rode like one of those slides. We went to Ramen Row because we saw your show.

00:20:01 John Daub: Oh, the Ramen Yokochou. And we went to. Ganso Ramen Yokochou. And we went to the ramen house that you told us about. Did you like it? Yes. Yes. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Can I like. Do you want the big Hokkaido bowl? Yes. She's like, yes. She wants a big Hokkaido bowl. What's been your. What's been your favorite food in Japan? Sushi. Really? I like ramen. I think yakiniku. Yakiniku. My girls do the conveyor belt sushi. Ah, I like that. I like the ones at the computer. I can't stop just pushing the buttons and then it all comes and I'm like, oh, I like I'm not even hungry anymore. Yeah. Yeah. The one with the second track on there for express delivery. That's the way I like it. Shabu Shabu is an MFC. Shabu Shabu. Ah. I'm getting hungry. I just had Shabu.

00:20:52 Texas Fans: How long did your trip take? So we've been fishing here down towards Osawa for three years. Oh, in Osawa. Okay. Yes. Oh, very cool. We went to Osawa in Aomori. What's that? In Aomori prefecture. Ah, how many? Yeah. I went. When I went to. I went to. I went to. I went to Hirosaki for the cherry blossom festival. I met a ton of people from there. Yes. Very beautiful. Yeah. It was fun. Oh, man. My kids have seen more Japan than I have because they go to school. Did you see the motorcycle inside of the barrel? Yeah. Yeah. That was one of the. You saw that? Did you? Did you put in a thousand yen and he took the money? No. You got to do that. I saw it. But we were like, you know, we were on a field trip. So they were like, kind of like telling us like where we should be going and stuff. Ah. They didn't even let us do the long trip. They didn't even tell us. How many years? If you take a thousand yen note and you put it in the barrel and the motorcycle guy, he'll take the money. Yeah. And it's gone. We saw that. We saw that on your hitchhiking trip. I know. Yes. He's inverted. He's like this on the motorcycle and he takes the money. I'm going to give him five thousand, ten thousand yen next time. Because. Yeah. I'm going to go this. We're going to go this April, I think, to Hirosaki. Yeah. Because I made her jealous. Oh. Oh. Oh.

00:22:05 London Family: Hello. It's so nice to meet you. Hi. I'm John. Hi. I'm John. We've been on a mission to find you. Oh. Well, you found us. Where are you from? London. London. Okay. Oh, wait. Let me give you one of those cards. Oh, okay. Here's a you found me card. Oh, they're like all frozen. Yeah. Here you go. Oh, yeah. Here you go. Here, hold this. Here you go. Found me. Ah. Okay. You want to have your family? Found me card? Yeah. Found me card. Here you go. Here you go, Zowie. Thanks for waiting. Oh, it's snowing. He has a lot of snow.

00:23:07 John Daub: Glimp photos. If they do the Japanese way, cheese. It doesn't look so cheesy. Yeah, high cheese. Everyone looks like fish. Fish? Yeah. Yeah, thanks for coming to say hi. I appreciate it. Alec, your eyes are all white from the snow. Oh, are they? I can't see myself. Yeah, it's getting worse. What is this? Here, get that out there. Yeah. Bye-bye. Thanks for stopping. Oh, yeah, sure. Before we get on a very snowy way. It's been attaching to me all day. I know. It's piling up. We've been in town today, so it was also very blizzard-y there as well. It's crazy, but it's fun. It's so fun. We've been loving it. Do you want Kanae to take it, or do you want to do a selfie?

00:24:01 London Family: I want a picture with Kanae.

00:24:03 John Daub: Okay, Kanae, come on in. Here, let me take you three. You sure? Yeah, yeah, I can take a line. All right. I'll cut that good. Oh, thanks. I'll do one white and one snowy and one in one photo. We're all looking at you. I'm going to keep saying my thoughts now. It's so funny. I'll take a picture with you tonight. Yeah, yeah, I'll take a picture with you tonight. I'll take a picture with you tonight. All right.

00:24:42 London Family: Yeah, I just wanted to say, like, I watched almost all of your live streams. Whoa! You watched all the live streams? Yeah, I Played It In The Background When I Walked. Oh, thank you. That means all the ads are running too. And I forgot all the food ones. Thank you! We're doing the Sapporo Snow Festival the food run this time. That's why I had to bring her, because her stomach is bigger than mine.

00:25:08 John Daub: Hey, if someone's watching me, maybe it's a dinner time back at home as well. Because sometimes I'm at work when my shoes are running and I have to look like I'm on the job. That'll do it! Nice one. Stay warm! We've all got plenty of heat tech going on in here. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have BlockTech, which was the next level to heat tech. But they banned it because it wasn't breathable and someone got sick. I got contraband. Uniqlo contraband going on in here. Thanks for stopping to say hi. Thank you! Stay warm as well. Yeah, stay warm. Does it ever get like this in London?

00:25:46 London Family: No, really? The first snow you'll ever get is in Scotland. Yeah. Scotland is nothing like this. This is like a blizzard. This is the most snow I've ever, ever seen. My father would tell me that when he moved house, it was only like two inches. And that was a lot. This is going to be like a meter maybe if it keeps going. And I hope it doesn't or else how am I going to get to Kitami? I'm getting a rented car. This is going to be crazy. Well, thankfully it's the day after tomorrow. So hopefully the storm is over by then. Yeah. We'll let you get on your way, sir. Yeah, thank you for stopping. Yeah. Here's your memory. Yay! Thanks guys. Bye-bye. See you online. See you on the other side of the screen. Bye-bye.

00:26:55 John Daub: That's cool. People can find, when you do live streams, people can find you. That's fun. Alright guys, so Kanae's hungry. I told her I would do it five minutes or less. And now it's 30 minutes. See what happens? But it's fun out here. You know? Oh yeah, that's the Ganso Ramen Yokochou. Ramen alley is over there. Oh, I see the sign. They changed it though. They got rid of the neon lights and made it kind of boring. But it's alright. So that's where the ramen alley is over there. Hold on. You see it right there in the center of your screen? The yellow sign is Ganso Ramen Yokochou. We'll go check it out and if not, maybe we'll get something there for sure. There's always Shabu right here. Yeah, that's f***ing true. So I guess we'll see you maybe tomorrow. Okay, yeah. Because my hand's freezing. I gotta get inside. This is my streaming hand. Get a hot drink right in Tiziana. It's red. I know it's red. You need a glove. I can't put the glove. There's snow inside. There's snow inside. It's all wet. I can't get it. They won't go fully on. It's wet inside. It's wet. It's wet. Now I can't touch the screen again. That's why I have my gloves on. I can't touch the screen.

00:28:29 John Daub: Alright, Matsu. We'll try to catch up with you tomorrow. I'm gonna be live streaming in the morning. Okay. Before all the people get out there. People are gonna look for me in the morning now. If you find me, I got a lot of You found me cards. Okay, I'll send you a text. You're staying not too far away from me. I'm at the Sapporo Grand Hotel. Okay, that's right off of the... It's right off of Odori Park. Yeah, we're about 10 minutes walk away. Alright, I'll see you tomorrow morning. Because I gotta stop this live stream. I can't do it. Look. No fingers. That's okay. I'll just take off. I think I'll do this too. That's cute. Go find your friends. We'll see you tomorrow morning. Stay warm, Matsumi. All of you stay warm too. Thanks for watching. It's been a lot of really fun time.

00:29:30 Chilean: Oh, hello. What do you think? It's frozen. How you doing? Nice to meet you. Where you from? Chile. Chile? Wow. So they don't have this in Santiago, do they? No, in the mountains. Yeah. Wow, from Chile. Awesome. What did you have for dinner? We're going to the ramen now. Oh. Is Ramen Alley crowded? I don't know. We're going now. Oh, okay. I will go with you. We're walking to the ramen now.

00:30:04 John Daub: Alright guys, it's really loud. So I'll see you later. Thanks for watching. I'm Kanae Matsumi. And our new friends from Chile. Have a good day. Enjoy. Enjoy a couple seconds of too much snow. This is what it's like at the snow festival in Sapporo when it's too much snow. It's really pretty. It's a lot of fun. Don't forget to click subscribe.
