00:00:11 John Daub: Nice. Good morning, everybody. How are you? Morning coffee at 11:30 in the morning. It's been a pretty busy morning so far. I've been up for a while. On the floor are some packages that I received from you. Good morning. I know Nosh is here in Japan, so Nosh knows exactly what time it is. There's two otaku. Thank you very much for joining in because I have your package right in front of me as well. Thank you, everybody. Santos is here. Mr. Potter. Sorry if I butchered that. Jack Five Son. A new shirt with sweat marks because I went outside for a little bit. It's really hot. Good morning.

00:00:59 John Daub: Today I'm going to be unboxing some of the stuff that you sent. First, we have to open these things up because there's 200 people here that are watching. They want to see some unboxing. I'm so thankful for the people who... Vintendo, good morning. Thank you. There you go. There's my morning coffee right there. I actually poured it. Actually, I got some coffee in one of these boxes. The first one I'm going to be opening is a box that I received in May. I've already pre-opened it. Brandon knows that I've already opened it because this is sort of maybe what he gave me.

00:01:44 John Daub: I don't want to show you people's addresses, so I'm going to cover them up a little bit. But this one I've already... This costs $70 to send from Hawaii. I think that's absolutely crazy. And it might even be more valuable than the contents of it. But I want to say thank you to Brandon for this. And he included a letter. And it says, enclosed is your coffee package. You have your choice of five different flavors. This is incredible. There's also an American flag patch to show everyone your patriotism. Awesome. Finally, a little gadget in case you find yourself without ohashi (chopsticks) for your ekiben (station bento). Brandon... And I've already pre-opened this, so... Because I received this in May. And I packaged it up like you did. I haven't opened this yet, but this is really cool. Thank you for the patch. It's good to let everybody know that you're not Canadian and you're American.

00:02:40 John Daub: Because there actually seem to be just as many Canadians here as there are Americans. And this tool is going to be becoming useful, Brandon, in the next place that I travel to. Because I'm going to be on an island next month. And I'm taking this with me, buddy. So this is a really amazing tool. And there is coffee galore from Hawaii. And this is going to sustain me through the summer for editing video. Brandon, this is really awesome. Thank you so much for this. He knows that I love coffee, so... He got me stuff from home. I really appreciate that. And once again, this tool and the patch. Everybody knows that I'm American. Thank you. I haven't eaten these yet. I'm going to eat these with my wife.

00:03:33 John Daub: Next one here is completely anonymous. Catherine's writing in. We all know you're not Canadian. Here's the address that everybody sent the packages to. People who sent me the packages are Patreon supporters. And I first gave the address to people who have been asking me for a long time. And finally, I gave the address here. And this one, I don't have a message or anything.

00:04:12 John Daub: It's hard to open it with one hand. Whoa! Oh, now I know what it is. If you want me to open this up, hit the like button. Let's see if we can get to 100 likes. I'm dead serious. This is going to be... This is so sweet. Oh, I know what this is. Hit the like button. And I'm going to show you what's inside here. We got the 72. Come on, guys. You can hit the like button. 89. We're almost there. We got to do it. Three more. How did we get to 97? How did we not get to 100 in that last... Okay, here we go. Okay, good. This is so cool.

00:05:00 John Daub: Oh, man. Light up Las Vegas sign. This is so cool. Faithful reproduction of the iconic Las Vegas landmark. And there it is. This is the fabulous welcome to Las Vegas sign. I know who sent this. A patron. Awesome. Thank you very much. Look at that. Does it come with dice? That would be pretty cool. Bright LED lights. So I'm going to put this in my office. And it's going to be in the background. So when you see me on the live stream, you're going to see me in Vegas. But don't be confused. I'm still in Tokyo, everybody. If we have some time at the end of this, I'm going to open this up and see if I can set this up, okay? It's pretty cool. I know Linda... Linda knows all this stuff. But Linda's also from Las Vegas. And we love you guys in Vegas. Thank you so much. A little bit of Vegas in Tokyo, baby. Thank you, Eric. Everybody in the Patreon community seems to kind of know one another a little bit. Because we write in the community tab and comment on each other's posts. So thank you very much for that, Eric. It's going to be pretty cool in the office.

00:06:22 John Daub: Now this one here comes from somebody who I really, really like. And I hope one day to meet Tuotaku. And Nosh, I'm hoping to meet up with you, buddy. I sent you a message last night before I went to bed. So I know you're here until the middle of the month. And we're going to get a chance to hang out a little bit. That'd be awesome.

00:07:44 John Daub: While we're doing this, we're going to take a short intermission to show you the beautiful area in Germany. This comes from Brita and Heiko. And Brita and Heiko live in Germany. And today we sent a postcard to Gretchen. Thank you very much for that. Gretchen might even be watching this live. She's in Arizona. And I sent out her address to everybody to try to get some more support for her because she's been very depressed. And I do need box cutters. But thank you so much. She's been getting stuff from all over the world. And to get something from Germany is just super cool. So thank you for that. And here we go. What a beautiful town. And this is also from Brita and Heiko. This one was sent, I think, a while ago, right? So thank you so much for this. I appreciate the postcards and I appreciate the love from Germany. This is awesome.

00:08:46 John Daub: It's from Tuotaku. I do need box cutters. But I want to be very gentle with this. Pretty impressed with myself opening it up with one hand. Now, we're going backwards in, okay, Tuotaku. So I apologize. Because I don't want to show your address to anybody. Bubble wrap. Oh, wow. Wow. Thank you. Premium lotion candles. This is awesome. I can smell it. Oh. This smells so good. The whole box smells so good. You have no idea, everybody. There's no smell-o-vision yet, unfortunately. But this smells so incredible.

00:10:17 John Daub: Oh, those are for Kanae Daub. Okay. I'm not going to light these up. I'm not going to start enjoying them. I'm going to save them for Kanae Daub. Tune in to Instagram. I'm going to make a story on this. I'm going to give this to her from you to Otaku. And then we're going to get her impression. She loves candles. So she's going to be so appreciative of this. Oh, wow. There's more candles. This is awesome. Check it out. Thank you. More candles. What is all for Kanae Daub? Light up faucet. This is so cool. What? You put this on the faucet. And look at this. No way. And you can tell it... It tells whether the water is hot or cold. And it turns into different colors. Look at this. This is so cool. I'm going to have to try this out, like, right away. This is so awesome. Thank you, to Otaku. And we're not even done yet.

00:11:31 John Daub: Oh, gee. It smells so good. I've never had a box that opened up... And smelled... Oh. Okay. Can I share this with Kanae Daub? She's not going to let me. She's going to totally take these off. Oh, to Otaku. So, these are... We're going to keep these closed for her for later on. That's really nice. Right now... After we eat dinner... We will watch one episode of Lost. She's really into this series. Now, I watch it because I'm American. This is on TV like in 2004, 5, 6, 7 to 2010. And I know what happens. But she's so into the series Lost. And I know some of you might not like it. Or some of you might like it. She's just like... Her eyes are open every time there's some sort of mystery. What happens next? You know, it's really funny. So, we're going to enjoy these watching Lost maybe tonight. That's so awesome. Wow. There's more. What? Oh, look at this.

00:12:51 John Daub: This is an explanation. Lovable chocolates from... This is from Washington. All right. You know who's from Washington? Jim's from Washington. Whenever I think of Tacoma, I think of Jim. All right. Thank you for this. This is really nice. Is this one for me? Nothing like slug chocolate. I guess this... Is it because sometimes I'm a little bit slow with the uploads? Okay. And this feels like something real special. So, I'm going to leave that for Kanae Daub. Thank you so much for that, Tuotaku. I appreciate it. Thank you for that. Once again. I've never heard of banana slugs before.

00:13:35 John Daub: So, Jillian writes in here, Hi, John. Big fan of your videos. Thank you. I'll be in Japan later this year and can't wait. Awesome. Hopefully, when you come... I'm not sure what month you're coming from. But if you're coming in, look for the meetups. Because I'm doing more and more meetups and would love to meet you, Jillian. And say thank you for that in person. That's really nice of you. Amazon Prime Day. I'm feeling it.

00:14:16 John Daub: Use this. You know, see, the reason why I do that is because in Japan, everything has like one of these quick open tabs where you don't have to... It's super frustration-free. Everything has like an easy way to open it. So, when you get something, it's like... Oh! I know who this is from. And here's a... It says here it's a gift. And yes. Ah, this is awesome. Okay. That's right. It's backwards right here, but it's also a magnet. And this is so cool. This is going on my refrigerator. Now, my wife, she... My refrigerator was completely covered with magnets, and she took them off, and I can't find them. And I guess this happens when you get married. Sometimes things just go missing.

00:15:24 John Daub: But in my kitchen... So, I have here like lots of magnets. One of my favorites is the No Money No Honey magnet from Thailand. I got this in Indonesia, some Bintang action. Got that from India. Oh, this is from a viewer from India. I got this when I was hitchhiking on the top. Wakkanai is the final thing. Don't mess with Texas, New York, because I live in New York, and I was in Venice. Oh, there it is down there. This is... Ah... Breeden Heikos. Oh, no, that's Venice. Where's Breeden Heikos? See, she put it somewhere, my wife. Oh... I know, it's... It's safe somewhere, but I just have to find it. Oh, here it is, here on the top. It was holding the piece of paper. And moin moin from... From Germany. That's how they say hello there.

00:16:29 John Daub: Wow. So what a super haul. Thank you. Where am I from? I'm from the United States. Say thank you to Brandon. This way it makes things a lot easier. Now it's reversed, but if you want to know where I'm from, it just got a lot more obvious thanks to Brandon's gift from Hawaii. So I really appreciate that. And it's a really good coffee. Great. So, I will, for the next couple of minutes, take some questions here while I drink my morning coffee and just enjoy the smell of two otaku candles for my wife. Which is just completely making this room smell way better than it was. And that's probably my fault too.

00:17:24 John Daub: Jim always has a really complicated question. Jim, the best present that I've ever received from Jim was his amazing work as moderator of this livestream. Even though he's got a friend visiting, I know he always puts in extra time for all of us to make sure that these streams are mostly family friendly. Without Jim, these streams would be... It wouldn't be so much fun up there. Is there a DVD update? Yes. I'm actually going to be showing you the design of the DVD. And then two days after that, I'm going to be showing you the trailer. And I asked Peter von Gomm to narrate it. That's going to be inside of the DVD. And then before I leave for Ogasawara, I will show you highlights of the DVD so you will know exactly what you're getting. The idea of this is to get everybody excited about this project again. And then by August, I want to have the... Everyone will have the DVD and I will be starting to get the DVD. And then by August, I want to start to sell them to everybody else. Also, in the middle of August, I'm going to be watching live with the people who supported me on Kickstarter. Watching live and giving directors feedback. So after you've all had a chance to watch the DVD, watch the video, I want to watch it together with you in a live stream. And then kind of go over some of the experiences in more detail that maybe... And I'll make that live stream available to everybody who's interested. Obviously, I wanted to it like a bonus, kind of a bonus. So you could kind of... Director's cut on there. But thanks for asking about that.

00:19:13 John Daub: I do have air conditioning on. But I went outside for one minute to check the mailbox and then I went to the store because you can get free water from the supermarket, which is pretty cool. They have filtered water. So I have a four liter jug. So I filled up the four liter jug. I came back and I had all this sweat coming up. So there's no way around it. Tokyo is that hot? It's very hot. So any other questions here? If I move to Japan, can I crash with you? Yeah, you know... Okay, you know what? I'm gonna let my wife be the bad guy here because you know what? No, I'm gonna say no. That's because she's gonna watch this playback. I think I'm gonna say no. But deep down the part of me would like you to crash here. But yeah, no.

00:20:09 John Daub: Johnny chance of you'd be doing a video on the robot hotel. Yeah, you know a lot of people bring this up, but it's been done a lot. Whenever there's a topic or a theme that's been done a lot, I don't think I can do something special or different than what they've done on the topic, I won't do it. And the robot hotel is something that people have done so many times over. I don't think I would do it. But the way I make the Only in Japan series is I like to get permission to film and then get interviews and background and find out the reason why and not just give you like... The main channel is not a vlog. All right, this is a vlog. This is a livestream vlog. The main channel is not a vlog. It's a program. It's something that I really set up and script. Well, there's a lot of unscripted parts, but it's very structured meaning I want to give you something of value not just of me. You're not watching me or my life. You're watching a story and if I can get something on the robot hotel that's interesting. That's not been done before then I will cover it. Yeah, so thanks. Thanks for asking about that. Do you have air conditioning in your house? I do it's not... You can see it up there in the corner. Right there it is. Oh, it's not very big. I don't live in a massive apartment, but it's a very nice apartment. I'm not... You know in the 1% or anything like that. I'm just normal dude trying to make a living from YouTube. But I do live in central Tokyo, but this is what we can afford right now.

00:21:48 John Daub: Hello from India. Have you ever traveled to Canada? Catherine writes in? Yeah, I've been to Montreal a couple of times. I've been to Toronto when I was in college to get alcohol. Because you can drink at a younger age in Canada than the United States and every college kid on the border would do that. But Montreal was a beautiful city and that was my first international trip to Montreal and I was freaked out. That's that McDonald's had signs in French. And I think it was 13 years old. So yeah, I really like... Montreal is so... It's so, gosh, it's Canada and so close to the U.S., but just the fact that so many things are in French just freaks out a lot of American teenagers who don't get it. And I think that that's a really good experience for us because we in America, we are so multicultural. It's like diverse in the United States where there's people that came from everywhere, but everybody melts into this melting pot that's the United States. But technically, well, philosophically, you're not supposed to be able to see any difference between anybody because we've all melted into become Americans. But when I went to Canada and I saw signs in French and it was so close to where my father's family resided in Albany, New York, it was pretty cool. We don't have that in America. This is Montreal, baby. It was really nice. Thanks for asking about that. This is way back, like 30 years ago, and I also took a tour of the 1976 Olympic Stadium and all the sites in Montreal. It was really cool. Back then, I think it was in the 1980s. Yeah, it was 1980s, so the 76 Olympics was still kind of fresh. But that was the Jenner Olympics where he won the decathlon. Bruce Jenner won the decathlon. And I remember that. That was pretty big. I was two years old when that happened.

00:23:46 John Daub: When will be the next video with Peter von Gomm? I don't know. Peter, I'm going to get really busy and start doing location shoots outside of Tokyo. A lot of people have been asking me when I'm leaving the city. A lot of the live streams have been about here in Tokyo. So I've been here for a while, but I'm going to be leaving the city of Tokyo. No, you know what? That's not exactly right. I will leave the city of Tokyo this month for a quick shoot, but I will be staying in the city of Tokyo, but going to another island. You guys remember last year I went to Aogashima, which is Tokyo's tropical paradise island experience, and Aogashima. There's another island that's even further. It's called Ogasawara. And I'm going to be going to Ogasawara in the beginning of August for a while to film that experience. It's another look at the islands of Tokyo. And get this, everybody. Just listen to this. You can't, there's no airplane to get there. You can't get to this island by airplane. You have to take a boat, a ferry. The ferry takes 24 hours. So I got to be on the ferry for 24 hours to get to this island. It's quite far. And this ferry is the only way to get to the island, unless you have your own boat. This is the only way to get to Ogasawara Islands, Haha-jima and Chichi-jima Islands. So it's going to be quite a ride. And 24-hour live stream. Yeah, you know what? That's not going to happen. Oh, I don't know. I don't think they have a signal out in the middle of the Pacific. But this island, if you look at it, if you look at the Ogasawara video, I put it on the map. It's on the extended map of Japan. Like it's out there.
