Travel Tips
- Meetup Locations: John announces meetups at Gateway of India or Crawford Market (Mumbai) and Marienplatz (Munich). Check his Instagram stories for final confirmations.
- Train Travel: Sleeper trains can be crowded and non-AC compartments may lack oversight. Be prepared to be assertive to secure reserved berths. Sleeper buses might be more comfortable.
- Food Safety: Home-cooked meals are highly recommended over street food for first-timers, though street food like pani puri is iconic.
- Connectivity: 4G signals can be inconsistent despite SIM card claims; 3G may be common in some areas.
- Best Time to Visit: Winter (December) is warm but manageable compared to summer.
- Must-See Spots: Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Colaba, Elephanta Caves (accessible by boat).
- Currency: Bargaining is common in markets; prices can vary significantly depending on who is buying.
- Languages: English is widely spoken in cities, but learning basic Hindi or Marathi helps. "Hinglish" (mix of Hindi and English) is common.
Japanese Language & Culture Notes
- Noren (暖簾): John mentions a "Sumo wrestler Noren" in the apartment. These are traditional Japanese fabric dividers hung between rooms or at entrances.
- Tsukiji (築地): Referenced when comparing fish markets in Mumbai to Tokyo's famous Tsukiji market.
- Eki Ben (駅弁): John compares train food vendors to Japanese station bento boxes.
- Hinglish: John notes the common practice of mixing Hindi and English in conversation, similar to how Japanese might mix English loanwords.
- Omiyage (Gift): The Kit Kats brought from Japan serve as a form of omiyage (souvenir gift) for family.
Food & Drink Guide
- Custard Apple (Sitaphal): 11:37 Creamy, sweet fruit with hard black seeds. John calls it one of the best fruits in Asia.
- Chai: 03:35 Spiced milk tea, very sweet. Sold by chaiwala on trains and streets.
- Idli: 06:30 Steamed rice cake, popular breakfast item, considered healthy.
- Dal: 15:28 Lentil stew, served with rice.
- Chapati: 15:28 Unleavened flatbread, staple accompaniment to curries.
- Palak Paneer: 41:08 Spinach and cheese curry.
- Kit Kat (White Peach): 21:47 Japanese flavor brought as a gift. Tastes like vanilla with peach essence.
- Pani Puri: 36:50 Street snack mentioned for future tasting at Chowpatty Beach.
- Masala Dosa: 36:50 Fermented crepe with spiced potatoes. Mysore style is spicier.
- Ceylon Tea: 34:25 Tea from Sri Lanka, compared favorably to Darjeeling tea.

00:01 John Daub: Greetings from India everybody. Welcome to Mumbai, the biggest city in India. The temperature is warm, very warm. This is a custard apple, one of my favorite fruits here. We're going to be doing an unboxing, unwrapping, just going to rip it open of this pretty unique fruit for those of you who don't know what a custard apple is. Also, I'm going to be introducing you to some of the unique things I discovered about India, like this magazine which tells you exactly what's going on here. India is the future because I'm here right now, and it's pretty exciting. We've had an incredible trip.
00:38 John Daub: I apologize for those of you who didn't get any of the notifications on Instagram or YouTube stories, but I don't have access to 4G. So I can't do live streams from the street yet, but hopefully tomorrow we get a chance to do that from down in the market or some street food because we got some amazing street food, some amazing stuff to show you in India. It said 4G on the SIM card, but I'm getting 3G signals. It's just not enough to do a live stream. Meet up will be tomorrow. If you're in India, I will be doing a meet up. We believe it's going to be at Gateway of India or Crawford Market in the morning. Alright, just a little heads up. It's going to be Gateway of India or Crawford Market in the morning, and morning I mean like 9 a.m. ish because the rush hour in India is so bad from Monday to Friday.
01:38 John Daub: You can't even get on the trains, but Sunday is kind of a slower day in the morning, so it might be easier for people to get there. I don't know who's going to be able to show up. It's like pretty much a day's notice. But if you are in India and you want to meet up, we'll be at Crawford Market or Gateway of India at 9 o'clock in the morning ish. And I'll be doing updates on Instagram, YouTube stories, as well as Patreon and some of the other sites. So hope to see some people there. It's going to be pretty exciting. I'm also filming an episode tomorrow on sushi in India, which I think is going to be pretty interesting. Is it dangerous? Can you even eat sushi in a tropical country? I'm going to try to find that out tomorrow as well. It's going to be a pretty fun day.
02:19 John Daub: I'm joined here by someone who needs no introduction. Kanai.
02:25 Kanae Daub: Kanai.
02:26 John Daub: A lot of people have been asking Kanai down here. And I'll tell you a little bit about the apartment that we're in. What do you think of India?
02:34 Kanae Daub: What do you think? It's powerful. Powerful. Spicy. Energetic. Energetic.
02:48 John Daub: And so friendly. People are so friendly.
02:49 Kanae Daub: Yeah. And experience for me.
02:59 John Daub: Anybody who's traveling for the first time, India is like, it's pretty... You either love it or you hate it. As a backpacker, because I have family here, I love it, but it's challenging because for the last four days, they just feed you. If you have family in India, they just feed you. Eat, eat over and over and over again. You're constantly drinking cups of chai, which is not a problem, until you get to like six in a day. It's kind of sweet. It's good. I'm not complaining. I'm just saying it's a lot. But family feeds you.
03:35 John Daub: And yesterday, Kanai and I went out to the village where my mom was born. And we met my mother's family. And it was pretty exciting. It was pretty fun for her. I've been there many times. But for her to see for the first time. How is India different than Japan? The people? The view? Definitely. The streets. The life, the mannerisms, the sounds. Mumbai is loud. Right now. The culture is very important.
04:10 Kanae Daub: It's so different from Japan. People are very quiet and reserved in Japan. In India, people are very outgoing, I find. And that's not a bad thing.
04:30 John Daub: If you want to get something done in India you have to be very bold and outgoing. In Japan you can kind of lean back a little bit, but in India you have to lean forward a lot. It can be a lot to take in I think if your first time traveling is to India. But Kanai's been to Thailand and to a lot of other Southeast Asian countries so it's easier.
04:48 Kanae Daub: Yeah I was like oh yeah right buddy we went honeymoon in Bali so I just feel you and beautiful sea. Now in India I can think a lot about the culture it's very nice experience for me.
05:24 John Daub: Yeah I think it's good to experience different kinds of cultures.
05:36 John Daub: Rashaab Bajpayee is from India but now living in Tsukuba. Oh that's Tsukuba, we're all like the university where all the smart people live. Yes Tsukuba in Ibaraki. Thanks for the super chat we appreciate it. I'm gonna take the family out for lunch. Actually maybe for dinner because my aunt is cooking again. Just not a bad thing. It smells really good in here. You can't smell it but it smells really good in here. Addicted to a lot of Indian food is also quite different than Japanese food. Like I'm very curious tomorrow to find out if we can eat sushi in Mumbai and what it's like because in a tropical culture I'm guessing the fish markets aren't the same as Tsukiji. So it's gonna be interesting tomorrow but the food is very different.
06:30 Kanae Daub: How is it? I like it a lot. Did you think it was curry every day? Now I can eat. My feeling is that I can eat every day but after in one month maybe I can't eat a lot. But I like it. In the end I can eat. I like curry. In India it's very good. Yesterday for breakfast we had idli and idli is very good.
06:53 John Daub: That's a popular breakfast. It seems pretty healthy but a lot of stuff is also deep fried I find and it can get kind of heavy and kind of oily is something that's different from Japanese diet. We have tempura which is a little bit oily but for the most part Japanese cuisine is not too oily. Whereas in India the curries and some of the other foods can be a little bit heavier for people.
07:26 John Daub: Right now we're in an apartment that my mom bought a long time ago and we're not renovating it. We're just keeping it as it is when we bought it because Mumbai is changing so quickly and there's a lot of high rise apartments coming and apparently this building is gonna get bought out and then everyone who's in this building will get a room in the new apartment building. So it doesn't make any sense to renovate this building. There's been some water damage. I don't come here that often but when I do come here I'm like oh boy I want to renovate this place but I can't because what's the point? They're gonna just be tearing this building down in a year or two. You're welcome to India. It's so cool to be here. I haven't been here in a couple of years. I try to come here at least once or twice a year if I try to but it's been a while. And it's nice to see family.
08:21 John Daub: Everybody's got big. You know how like when you don't visit a place for a while and you have family there and then the kids they're like this big and then they're like this big and then they're like a fish that you like this big and then they're taller than you? Yeah that was really weird to see yesterday. A lot of the kids in the village were so tall from the last time I visited and that's just part of not visiting for a while I guess.
08:44 John Daub: One of the things that was pretty shocking to me was the train travel in India has changed a lot in the last 20 years. We took a night train because I took a night train 20 years ago and it was a pretty good unique experience but this time we didn't sleep at all and there was no oversight. There was no one to manage the sleeper carriage second class non AC sleeper and people were Mumbai is so crowded commuters were just getting onto the train and even though we had a reservation for the couchette the sleeping car. People were sitting there and we couldn't set up the beds until two hours in like almost by midnight and that was a shock to me. You had to really be aggressive to get them to get out and nobody really basically didn't get any sleep on the sleeper trains and the sleeper train was probably the same sleeper train I took 20 years ago and they haven't cleaned it since so it was fun but it's not the same as it was in the past like train travel in Europe but there was sleeper buses.
09:49 Kanae Daub: Did you like the sleeper bus? Yeah it's better than train. Train yeah. I slept.
09:54 John Daub: Yeah you might have to go air AC but they didn't have it on this train going to Kolhapur. This is the train that leaves from Victoria Terminus which they've renamed but it leaves at 8 p.m every day and it didn't have any AC compartments we took the best one possible and it was yeah you know it wasn't bad it's fun because I like how the chaiwala come on the train chai chai coffee coffee. Chai pani. Yeah like they have a unique system to it. They have like little eki bends right like biryani and it's always neat to see how that culture hasn't changed like you can get a cup of chai on the train and just you sit there and you watch the countryside go by with a cup of chai that's fun but the maybe it's just gotten too pushy or too crowded and there was something that's been lost in the process. I don't know I was a little bit turned off by the train travel.
10:55 John Daub: Hey Jim writes in enjoy your travels and I'm saying I'm turned off by the travel but we're leaving here tomorrow night 4 in the morning on the 17th to travel to Germany where we'll be in Munich and we're going to do a meet up at Marienplatz probably around 5 or 6 p.m. in front of our hotel and I'm going to give you the information to that probably tomorrow but we'll probably do a meet up. And then Marienplatz I guess we'll be there like it's at 6 p.m. or earlier but there's a lot of people from Munich that have been giving me information about when it gets too crowded and stuff like this so a lot of people are going to be coming to that meet up which is going to be a lot of fun to meet viewers from Germany but tomorrow is the meet up here in India.
11:37 John Daub: I want to show you this which I showed at the beginning this is a custard apple just come down here actually I got a couple of stuff I want to show you so we're going to rip this open here. You've eaten this before right?
11:47 Kanae Daub: Oh you already had it. I already had one.
11:50 John Daub: So this is what it looks like on the inside. They call this a custard apple actually and this custard apple is I think you know if I bargained for it I'd end up paying three dollars or something for a couple of these but if you get your aunt in India to do it it's like a dollar fifty for a bunch of them. Alright so when you open it up these are so good custard apples so it kind of looks like this. And it's kind of creamy you can see along the skin it's creamy. How you doing?
12:38 Kanae Daub: You're probably ready. Yeah I ate already. You had it already. It's all good. It's sweet. The seeds are hard. The seeds are hard and black.
13:17 John Daub: This is like one of the best fruits in Asia. If you ever see these on the streets soursop. I think the English name is custard apple or soursop.
13:26 Kanae Daub: Stafo. Stafo.
13:35 John Daub: So good. Don't eat the seeds.
13:39 Kanae Daub: That's right. Don't eat the seeds.
13:42 John Daub: Now I found this. This is pretty weird. I found this in the supermarket yesterday. It's like an Indian Colgate, which is so cool. Check this out. It's actually made from organic ingredients. Clove, neem, honey, amla and basil. Basil in toothpaste. And I put this on my toothbrush and I freaked out a little bit. That's not the color of toothpaste. And at the same time, it smells so good. This is toothpaste by Colgate. It's called Swarna Ved Shakti created with Ayurvedic expertise. And it smells so good and medicine-y, like organic medicine-y. I've been brushing my teeth with it. I look okay. It's not bad. But I recommend getting this Colgate.
15:28 John Daub: Are they cooking? Should I show? Oh yeah yeah yeah. She made the chapati. We're just gonna go in here. Chapati? Chai? You want chai? No? Okay no chai. Lunch time. Because lunch time. Dal kadi. Yes kadi. Dal rice.
16:40 John Daub: So my mom also bought one of these Sumo wrestler Noren. It kind of doesn't fit. And there's the Wi-Fi router. It does not fit at all in this apartment. It's just absolutely bizarre. And I can show you a little bit of the outside. I know you're not going to be able to see anything through the grate, but you can see the auto rickshaws. These grates in here to keep the birds out, robbers. The birds will come in here and they'll fly in and start eating stuff. It's pretty cool. You can see the auto rickshaws down there. Man I want to get a 4G signal so I can go live stream down there.
17:50 John Daub: I'm also suffering from a severe case of midnight snack run withdrawal. I told you if I can get 4G signal I want to do a street food run with Ganesh who is my aunt's son, nephew. That'd be so cool to go out and do a street food run here at like almost midnight. It's midnight somewhere. So I'm going to try to do that for sure. Thirteen I've been watching all of your back catalog of streams and videos for the past two months and here is all I can afford for now. Thank you. Oh that's so nice of you. Thank you so much. I really do appreciate that. And I'm going to take them out to dinner with all of this. How many new live stream viewers do we have here? Right said UFO Bob. By the way thank you for posting.
18:50 John Daub: For all of you who are watching get this. I did something really unique with the last video on the main street. I hid, I deleted two minutes of the video. And then I just released re-released those two minutes inside of the video. You can delete it inside of YouTube and then revert to original and re-releases the original version which had the deleted scenes. So you can go back and see the Vermeer episode two minutes of secret footage that shows how Professor Fukuoka found music inside one of the paintings that experts have been missing.
19:47 John Daub: 私 so I'm making food. Very interesting. We came back from the village yesterday. So I want to go to IKEA and renovate this place but it just doesn't make sense to do it if they're going to be tearing it down.
20:14 John Daub: Last but not least Batman. Ganesh they like your Batman shirt. What? They like your Batman shirt. He's like he's Batman. Is Batman popular in India?
20:24 Ganesh: Yeah. Oh he looks like David Beckham.
20:33 John Daub: Slightly. It says Airtel 4G is the fastest network in India. Is that true?
20:42 Ganesh: Yeah but right now there is some they have issues and all. So it's not like...
20:51 John Daub: Wow handsome. They're writing in handsome. Wow you're popular.
20:57 Kanae Daub: Because of you. Look look at this. What do you guys think? Handsome or not handsome?
21:03 Ganesh: Handsome handsome.
21:09 John Daub: Oh they don't know. Yeah but that's how we get demonetized. It's probably copyrighted.
21:19 John Daub: Green light courier services wife and I can't wait to see some German viewers. Totally going to be doing that. The first thing I do when I get to Germany is yeah we're going to go get some food.
21:34 Ganesh: Nice hairdo. Very much so. Bollywood star. Could totally be. Dancing not so much though.
21:47 John Daub: We're going to just try this okay? And I want to get their point of view. Is this any good? This is white peach Kit Kat from Japan that I brought this. Actually What's Inside's Dan and Lincoln gave me a super chat to buy a box of these. So we're just going to try it. And I'm going to ask them to see what they think about it. Actually I'm quite curious. Oh it smells so good. How can I eat this when we have that? So they've done it. They've made the box more unique. Look at how it opens. That's pretty cool. It expired September 2019.
22:31 John Daub: Fan meetup is tomorrow. I'm not going to other cities. I'm just not in India very long. We're here for just a few days really. I had to visit family. And yeah we're doing one meetup tomorrow in the morning at Crawford Market around Crawford Market or Gateway of India. I'll announce that in an Instagram live stream very quickly. But around 9 a.m. I'm thinking. There's three in here. You know Keith is going to like that. One of the supporters on Patreon. He's going to love this. This is a new flavor. Peach. We're going to try this.
23:15 John Daub: I'm going to abandon this and just show you the food. It smells too good. What's going on here? Dal? Dal? Good smell. Good smell? Yeah. I can smell it from there. And everything is made with fresh vegetables. Very good. So back over here. Kanai is listening to Bollywood music. It's pretty good. It smells way too good. You can't smell it. I can smell it. It smells so good. You getting homesick?
23:58 Kanae Daub: Yeah I know. It's so nice.
24:01 John Daub: You know you can get food at restaurants in India but home cooked meal is always going to be like 100 times better here. Is there Starbucks in Mumbai? There is downtown. Not where I am. I'm in Mumbai but not in the center. So OK let's try this down here. I'm just really curious about this. So we're going to ask them. Wow. It tastes like a white Kit Kat like a vanilla. And there's just an essence of peach in it. It's not overpowering taste of peach just an essence of peach in this. This is really good. The melon one is good too. But I thought that melon one was too chemical. Peach is a taste that you can do without a lot of chemicals in it. Kit Kat good?
25:02 Ganesh: Good?
25:06 John Daub: There you go Dan. What's Inside? You're eating Kit Kats. Good? Pretty good.
25:17 John Daub: Kanai! You want to eat peach Kit Kat?
25:21 Kanae Daub: Yeah.
25:23 John Daub: Ganesh you want one? Yeah. All right here. You can share. I'm going to try it. Do you like it?
25:31 Ganesh: I can try it. Yeah try one. Let's see if it's any good. Peach Kit Kats. Tasty. Yeah. Do you like Kit Kat? Yeah. I just meant peach. But it's good. It's good. Do they have this in India? Different flavors? Yeah it has chocolate flavor. Do they have peach? No not yet. Not yet? Maybe never. It's only in Narita Airport.
26:13 John Daub: My cousin Lisa wants to know how old is Ganesh?
26:19 Ganesh: 24.
26:20 John Daub: You're single? People asking. Do you know T-Series on YouTube?
26:33 Ganesh: Yeah.
26:37 John Daub: Do you know PewDiePie?
26:38 Ganesh: Not yet.
26:42 John Daub: So T-Series yes. No to PewDiePie. Sorry. T-Series and PewDiePie are in an epic battle to see who will be the number one YouTuber for subscribers. PewDiePie has 76 million subscribers and T-Series has 75 million subscribers. T-Series might win but PewDiePie is doing pretty good. You gotta say it. Poodie Pie is... I have not seen any PewDiePie signs yet to beat T-Series yet but I will look for them tomorrow downtown. It's gonna be pretty funny. Yeah so that's pretty much all that I got. We're gonna be eating lunch soon.
27:25 John Daub: I got this today. Oh hold on a second. What? Captain America. What? Captain America. Oh so you like Marvel or DC Comics? This is a total... DC Comics and Marvel. Actually it's not sense. It's like which hero do you like. That's why. Wait so you like Captain America?
27:48 Ganesh: Yeah. Why Captain America? Because that story was... It's so amazing. Captain America.
27:55 John Daub: I like his story too. Yeah. Yeah but he doesn't have superpowers like Superman. Does India have any superheroes anything like the Marvel Comics no. Yeah. So there's some Indian superheroes do they make movies from it no. Yeah. Fish fish. Okay what are their superpowers? How about Padman you know Padman no no what's his superpowers. Okay. It has alien power. Who the alien was coming from? Outside from Earth it has giving to them that. But they're not Indian yeah there's no Captain India. Missing there's Miss India. Yes he has a watch he can hide somewhere. Wow very interesting.
29:59 John Daub: Yeah I actually don't know much about Indian manga and anime. No India manga just just. I think the chaiwala is kind of a superhero to hold the chai for so long.
30:08 Ganesh: Yeah and keep it hot. We need so much energy for selling the chai. Yeah.
30:16 John Daub: Hey hey hey yeah chaiwala. How do they keep it hot for so long? And how do they hold it so heavy? To me I have a lot of respect for the chai people I do. Yeah I love chai just chai. Alright so that's about it. Thank you for the superhero talk.
30:40 John Daub: What if people come to Mumbai where should they go?
30:47 Ganesh: They can go for Marine Drive line. Downtown Colaba. India Gateway you must go for. I go down so what a kingdom yeah yeah there's a boat forward in Mumbai no this is a food ah this is Taj Mahal is up near Delhi this is a pinagra that's in Mumbai we have different attractions for me it's like street food food masala dosa yeah yeah eating I like the park the Gandhi's Park yeah National Gandhi's Park is very nice there's some stuff in there the caves elephant the caves you can get the boat from Gateway of India which is really cool.
31:56 John Daub: I don't think we have time tonight to see that yeah. Can I want to see the caves right yeah yeah we don't have time to go and see the caves this time you got to come back you need to spend like at least a week minimum in India and we don't have that time we came I came here just to see family and anything extra a beautiful can I if we can get 250 likes I might keep doing the live stream but we're very well short of 200 but yeah the um see I'm very curious about superheroes in India kind of the connection between India and Japan and tomorrow we're gonna try to eat some sushi which is gonna be cool let me watch it's so much to do so little time Lenny I know that we gotta be back I might come back next year too because it's just I wanted to come I usually come with my mother this time my mom's not here but you know it's a chance for Kanai and I to see the family.
32:52 John Daub: Gavin rates and have you seen your YouTube play button plaque not yet for the 100000 subscriber I haven't actually even gotten the invitation from YouTube to apply for it this is like over two months ago so I talked to my partner manager YouTube about it he said he's going to contact me when the request comes in thank you Ganesh yeah he'll come back and uh yeah i'm hoping when I get the one million play button which will happen in January we'll pass one million on the main channel thank you this is awesome um but when that happens maybe i'll have both plaques at the same time which would be pretty cool to do um and uh nomura writes in 20 thank you for that that's gonna go towards our dinner tonight which is gonna be pretty good um taj mahal is near the elora caves i don't know what that means um but it's on i believe the taj mahal hotel is by the Gateway of India it's in Agra for what I know but I don't live here so I don't know a lot I could be wrong I'm wrong a lot I was wrong about the capital what is the capital of Sri Lanka I said Colombo it's actually a city next to Colombo which is in greater Colombo but it's not actually Colombo but I'd studied in elementary and junior high school in high school as Colombo so there's not a lot that there are a lot of things that I don't know because things change all right I do my best to be accurate okay.
34:25 John Daub: I got some tea oh yeah we got some tea from Sri Lanka Ceylon tea oh yeah bring it yeah we got some stuff from Sri Lanka I get some lemon cookies which are really good not enough time in Sri Lanka as well we have to go back and do that masala dosa we had that the second day we were here I had a Mysore that each region of India seems a few regions of India have their own original taste of masala dosa I had Mysore which is a little bit spicier and she had the normal one which is like curried potatoes inside of you have to see it it's hard for me to describe we bought a huge bag 500 grams you know it's authentic when it doesn't come in a fancy wrapper it came right from the plantation and he says it's fresh it looks fresh and then some of this tea tea bags from Ranford Plantation which I don't know. This is from Sri Lanka which is where most of the world's tea Ceylon tea very famous. And then Kanai bought what's this one called? Paradise Road. A very famous shop. We got some soap and some linen stuff girly stuff that girls like. So a little bit of shopping in yeah vanilla's going to be. We're going to have fun trying it. Ceylon tea is Darjeeling tea is much better. You know I think Darjeeling tea is lighter. Ceylon tea can be if it's crushed up if it's just orange pekoe which is a lighter blend of it it doesn't taste like orange. It has an orange color. It's pretty good. You know I think both of the teas are good. Darjeeling I'm partial to Darjeeling just because I was the first place I went to for tea. I went there 20 years ago backpacking in Darjeeling and I just sat there just drinking tea in Darjeeling. This is like the year 2000. June 2000 I was in Darjeeling just sitting there drinking tea for three days at a youth hostel which had a view of tea farms. Yeah. And it was I could see Mount Kanchenjunga which is the third highest peak in the world. Kanchenjunga. And Kanai got this at the supermarket D-Mart. D-Mart at D-Mart. Supermarket in India. So we're shopping. We're buying some stuff. Hopefully we have more stuff to show you.
36:50 John Daub: But yeah tomorrow I'm going to try to do a live stream from the Gateway of India or downtown in Mumbai so you get an idea of what it's like around there. I don't know. I haven't been getting 4G signals for those of you who are joining us. Pav Baj with extra butter. Ooh. Pani puri. Yes. We're going to try that pani puri. Kanai's going to try that at Chowpatty Beach tomorrow in Mumbai. Probably tomorrow evening around 4pm we'll be there I think. And then pani puri. You can fail but you have to try that once I think. For better or for worse. I can eat a lot of that. That's like the original food challenge maybe of India. You can keep going. There's no end. You just eat until you explode. Pani puri. Can't wait to show that. UFO Bob's giving us you can hear the background noise of cooking going on. That's our lunch. Homemade lunch is coming.
37:49 John Daub: I don't have anything else to say. Green light courier service. Hit the like button. So close to 250 only in India. Oh my what are we gonna do? I don't wanna if it gets to 350 then we're in big trouble. I don't know what else I can show you for an extension. Can you spell my name? It's right there. Shrakant Barkan Kanpur Kar. I can't spell it. It's even written right there and I can't spell it. Sunset cycling. Does John speak Hindi? No. It's weird. When my mom emigrated from India to the United States I don't think that there was a need for me to learn a foreign language. I don't think in the US they saw globalization coming at the time. So it's kinda sad. But I think if I was born 10 years later I would have learned it. Because I really do wish I had. My mom speaks Marathi Kannada which is the language of Bangalore and Hindi. Those three languages. Marathi is the big language of Mumbai. Maharashtra is the state. And then Kannada is Karnataka which is the state that Bangalore is in. So they're two neighboring states. And my mom's village is between Maharashtra and Karnataka. Which means they speak both languages. Because they're on the border. It's weird. There's actually believe it or not like hundreds of different regional dialects in India. A lot of people don't know that. English and Hindi are the two languages that sort of bind people. Hindi being the language of the Bollywood movies. And English just being the language that people just speak. Because it's just something everybody speaks. Maybe from the colonial time. And then there's a lot of people that I know that will just combine both of them. They'll speak Hinglish. Hinglish! That's a good way to say it. And Marathi is also a really nice language. I wish I'd learned Marathi.
40:08 Ganesh: So you can speak Marathi Hindi Huzirati. Canada. Power English well done. King of like four and a half. Small English yeah. That's a lot of languages.
40:28 John Daub: I think if you're here you use the languages and if you're not here you don't use them and you lose them and you don't need them. English I think for most people in India you don't need to use English. I guess the people who are traveling a lot or you learn it in school but it just depends. A lot of my family in the village don't speak English. A lot of them they speak just a little bit of English which is funny but they have a confidence to it like I do with my Japanese where the mistakes are awesome. Like the mistakes are good.
41:08 Ganesh: Palak. Ah fresh. Today is the palak pakoda. Ah. Yeah spinach. Spinach. Today's menu is palak paneer palak roti da spinach.
41:23 John Daub: Getting hungry now. You can smell it. The only reason I'm still live streaming is because we're at 250 likes so I just wanted to go on a little bit longer. But there really isn't anything more to share. Meet up tomorrow. I could show you pictures I guess. The train was tough. I think we went over that. You really want me to keep going? The Munich date is the 17th so the day after tomorrow we'll be meeting up in Marienplatz but I'm going to start to meet up in front of my hotel. I can give you the name of the hotel actually. Should I do that? Um what is the name of the hotel? Give me a second. This is a hotel in Munich by the way. I don't need a hotel in Mumbai. They just emailed me. It's a really nice hotel. Platz Hotel. You get Platz Hotel Munich. So we'll be at the Platz Hotel Munich. Platz Hotel. So you can meet in front of there at around I don't know 5 or 6 pm I guess. And send me a message if you don't know the name. Please. Know a better time for the Munich meet up in Munich and then tomorrow we'll be meeting up in Gateway of India or the Crawford Market area around 9 a.m. 9 30 a.m. I'll be doing updates so everybody can find me on Instagram stories as well as Facebook not so much Facebook Instagram am plots yeah I think so am plots this is the logo for the hotel that we're staying in and we'll be there for that night that's what lots of hotel in Germany so you can meet there at 5 p.m. in the front is it a four-star hotel I really don't know it was a little bit there weren't that many hotels near the center of the city that were cheap actually for Munich so I picked the one that was a step up that I wanted to go so they can I can have a nice experience actually nice hotel I think because you know I thought it might be nice it seems like a really nice place yeah I said you got it so I'll be there like 5 p.m. 6 p.m. I'll be downstairs but once again like I'll be doing updates on Instagram and Facebook live Facebook and Patreon for the supporters there can I have to try to spell my name can I can't spell that name she can't even say it can you say this name can I all right last thing this is the last challenge can you say this person's name Shree Kant.
44:29 Kanae Daub: Shrikanth.
44:41 John Daub: We'll have to confirm or deny Indian food Japanese food cheers Indian food I don't know because I'm in India maybe it's where I'm located if you ask me in Japan I might say Japanese. I like Chinese food too but I'd have to say it's really really good but Japanese food I don't know right now my mind is on what I can smell and I can smell like really good food yeah tender oh stop it tender chicken I want I'm getting I'm not even hungry because if you come to visit family in India they feed you until you explode and I'm literally I put on a lot of weight she too but it's dangerous when you come and you visit family anywhere you eat more than normal humans and in India it's even worse you eat more yeah paneer we had yet the day before yesterday it's really good oh man it's just so much.
45:44 John Daub: Gavin hey Gavin are you going to broadcast live on Christmas Day I might again actually might that was fun last year's live we get to open the presents I might do a little bit of that I'm not sure I'll ask my this time I'll ask permission from my brother I didn't do that last year I think he might have been slightly upset yeah Philippines is on my list did you find any subscriber yet in India yes a couple of them came to say hello we have we have a very good subscriber base in India it's not the third highest subscriber base because India is the place where internet use is going like this United States is like this it's like a straight line and no one everyone who's using the internet is probably not that's about it it's slight increase in America India's internet usage is like this all right and India is the place where everybody is getting the biggest subscriber increase because yeah there's a cell phone network that's offering free YouTube and when you do that everyone starts watching YouTube and that means that subscribers are gonna increase so we've had a pretty good very good following in India so that's what kind of excited to meet with some viewers tomorrow we can't India is a very fast-growing economy it's chaos it's not for everybody it's for India and I like that you either love it or you hate it um this is my with a lot of people that have talked to with India you either love India or you hate India and this is as a tourist all right you love like resorts and peacefulness and stuff what you love crazy chaotic chaos ness with delicious food and just like a million different smells I love it for me this is life this is energy this is there's a feeling that you cannot compare it to India that makes it very attractive depending on the kind of person you are I love that energy it's different than Japan Kanai is kind of digging it although it's a little bit too crazy the first time but you build into it when you get used to it you can cross the street like Frogger when there's a hundred cars coming at you so yeah in that sense India is pretty amazing place it's pretty basic place yeah I'm in Bangalore can't meet you yet I got friends in Bangalore and want to make it down there but on this trip it's very short I think I will do more Indian meetups next time I come to visit maybe I'll come for a longer period but it's just too much too short and I came here really to visit family but to do a meetup tomorrow will be pretty cool to meet up with viewers from India I can't come to Delhi vampire I really want to go up north to Delhi into Kolkata and down to Bangalore and Hyderabad and the I mean getting a lot of messages through viewers all over India and I just can't meet with everybody because I'm not here for long enough time.
48:44 John Daub: Gonna give you an update on 2018 but it was a really tough year for us and just all so many things happened in life so I'm gonna be an update on that later on I did I just gave one to Patreon supporters actually about what's going on behind the scenes but this is a tough year so I'm going to show it to you a couple years down there and just give 2019 is going to be an expansion year I think. This one you know marriage. We lost Mr. Saichi. We lost my aunt. So there's a lot of stuff that happened in the background. But a lot of good stuff too. Just a very busy year. 2019 is going to be exciting. All right so thanks guys for watching. It's pretty cool. We got a lot of people to watch this live stream with us and join us a little bit in India. Definitely try this toothpaste this brown toothpaste. It's actually really good. It smells amazing. And it does the job. And it's organic really. It's very unique for Colgate. I never thought I would say Colgate makes an organic product. It's pretty organic actually. Ingredients. There's not much there. Okay there's a little bit of chemicals. But it's a lot less than normal toothpaste. It's cloves basil honey neem and amla. This is amazing toothpaste. I like it. I like it very much.
50:14 John Daub: So Neil Ganguly. Thank you Neil. I hope that you bring Kanai to eastern and northeastern India one day. Also take her to the Himalayas. Yes. My personal favorite holiday. Love from Kolkata. Yes. And I remember taking I've been to Kolkata. I've been there twice. To Kolkata. Some people might know it as. And I remember the first time I went there and crossed the river and eating curry. It was a lot of fun. Each city has its own unique style. And Kolkata style is pretty cool. It's at that time. They still had human rickshaws. You know they still had humans because people needed a job to do and they didn't want to get rid of it. And that was pretty cool to see that people still were doing that. I think. That was the year before they got rid of that. But the food was so good. And it's just a different vibe. That's where my mom and my dad met. And that's where he took her from Kolkata back to the United States through Kolkata. So there's always a special meaning special place for our family for Kolkata. So thanks. We would definitely go and visit. Go up to Darjeeling and up there into the north. That area is just beautiful. So thanks. Thank you so much for that Neil. We appreciate that. Yeah. Great. So I'm going to get lunch. I think we're close to it. I can smell it. It smells awesome. Check out tomorrow live stream meet up. See you all. Bye bye.
52:00 John Daub: Oh wait. Sir. And I small Voldemort writes little love from India. Thank you. Thank you very much. Right there. Right at the bell. Thank you. All right. I'll see you guys tomorrow. Namaskar. Oh.
