Summary

Mt Fuji Driving through Fuji City

Overview

In this live stream drive, John Daub takes viewers on a scenic trip along the Tomei Expressway towards Mount Fuji, accompanied by his wife Kanae Daub. Starting from Tokyo, they navigate the Shintomei Expressway, aiming to capture clear winter shots of Japan's iconic mountain. However, upon approaching Fuji City in Shizuoka Prefecture, John expresses surprise at the lack of snow on Fuji's peak compared to previous visits.

The journey continues off the expressway at the Shin Fuji Interchange, leading into the countryside of Fuji City. Their primary destination is Obuchi Sasaba, a renowned tea plantation known for offering some of the best views of Mount Fuji amidst rows of green tea bushes. Throughout the drive, John and Kanae interact with live chat viewers, sharing New Year greetings and discussing local sights, including tea fields and nearby landmarks like Asagiri Kogen.

Upon arriving at Obuchi Sasaba, John explores the quiet, nearly empty tea fields, noting the serene atmosphere. He plans to use a drone to capture aerial footage for his Patreon postcard club, despite the cloudy weather and lack of snow. The video captures the reality of winter travel in Japan, the beauty of Shizuoka's tea country, and the spontaneous nature of live streaming while driving.

Japan Travel Tips

  • Expressway Tolls: John mentions the toll was around $34, automatically charged via ETC card.
  • Driving Routes: The Shin Fuji Interchange offers direct access to Fuji City views, though John notes he usually drives straight to Nagoya or Osaka.
  • Obuchi Sasaba Access: The tea plantation area is open 24 hours and free to visit, but roads are narrow and can be tricky for navigation.
  • Best Views: The Shizuoka side of Fuji offers unique views with tea plantations in the foreground, distinct from the Lake Kawaguchiko side.
  • Navigation: GPS can be unreliable in rural areas; rely on road signs (e.g., Obuchi Sasaba signs) when possible.
  • Seasonality: Green tea harvest typically starts in March (new leaves) with flushes through April. Winter offers clear views but no active harvesting.

Japanese Language & Culture Notes

  • Tomei Kōsoku Dōro (東名高速道路): The Tomei Expressway connecting Tokyo and Nagoya.
  • Osechi-ryori (おせち料理): Traditional Japanese New Year foods eaten in early January. John mentions eating this instead of New Orleans luck foods.
  • Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu: Happy New Year greeting used by Kanae.
  • Fuji-san (富士山): Honorific name for Mount Fuji.
  • Obuchi Sasaba (大淵沢茶畑): Specific name of the tea plantation area in Fuji City.
  • New Year Greetings: Viewers and hosts exchange "Happy New Year" frequently, reflecting the January 5th timing (still within Shogatsu season).

Food & Drink Guide

  • Green Tea (Ryokucha): The primary focus of the location. John mentions wanting to get a cup of green tea for the thumbnail but forgets. Shizuoka is noted for having the best green tea in Japan.
  • Osechi-ryori (おせち料理): Traditional New Year boxed foods. John mentions having this for New Year's instead of Western traditions.
  • Melon Bread: Mentioned in chat comments as a treat available nearby.

People

  • John Daub: Host and driver. American living in Japan for 30+ years. Enthusiastic about filming Mount Fuji and tea fields.
  • Kanae Daub: John's wife. Co-host, manages camera duties partway through, reads live chat comments, and navigates.
  • Dean Newcomb: Mentioned as a previous collaborator who visited Obuchi Sasaba with John a month prior.
  • Live Chat Viewers: Various viewers interact via Super Chats and comments (e.g., Peter, Chicago, Africa, John Kimura).

Key Takeaways

  • Weather Variability: Mount Fuji's appearance changes drastically based on location and weather; the Shizuoka side lacked snow compared to the Yamanashi side.
  • Obuchi Sasaba: One of the best locations in Japan for photographing Mount Fuji with green tea fields in the foreground.
  • Rural Driving: Roads in countryside tea regions are narrow, sometimes unpaved, and require careful navigation.
  • Live Streaming: John uses live streams to engage with the community, taking requests and sharing real-time experiences.

Notable Quotes

  • 00:41 "On this side of Mount Fuji, there's no snow at all. Well, I mean, it's very little, right? I'm kind of shocked."
  • 06:05 "I'm going to be turning left right now towards Asagiri Kogen. Oh, this is going to be cool."
  • 16:41 "It is totally open. Nobody here. It's open 24 hours according to Google Maps."
  • 21:43 "From this vantage point, it is, I would say, probably the best green tea shot in the entire country of Japan."
  • 33:40 "Mount Fuji is one of the most bizarre mountains, volcanoes in the world. It's there one moment and it's not the next."

Full Transcript

00:00 John Daub: This is the Tomei Expressway (東名高速道路,Tomei Kōsoku Dōro), the Shintomei Expressway. We're on the road to Mount Fuji, which is actually on the side here. In about four minutes, we're going to be doing a roundabout, and you'll see a much clearer view. It's kind of amazing. You can't see it right now. It's just to the right. There you go. Oh, look at that. So you can see Mount Fuji just on the right side. I'm driving at a comfortable 90 kilometers per hour, and we're on the road to get to Mount Fuji, and we have a clear day. It's a nice clear day.

00:41 John Daub: Now, it's interesting though, because as we've been driving, I've noticed that on the side from Tokyo, we have such a wonderful view of Mount Fuji, covered in snow. And on this side of Mount Fuji, there's no snow at all. Well, I mean, it's very little, right? I'm kind of shocked. I actually came to this direction today because I needed to get the shots of Mount Fuji with the snow, and it's not there. I'm kind of shocked right now looking at it. Yeah, so we're getting off at the Shin Fuji interchange. Yeah, it's like in two minutes or so. Better get into the left lane here. How you doing, everybody? It is a really nice day. It's not shaking too much, the camera too.

01:42 Kanae Daub: Can I get in charge of the camera now?

01:44 John Daub: Sure. What if you didn't charge?

01:54 John Daub: Shin Fuji, 2.5 kilometers.

02:06 Kanae Daub: Kanae is now reading the comments. Drive safe.

02:09 John Daub: Thank you.

02:10 Kanae Daub: Atome, John. Watch the road, John.

02:24 John Daub: You're watching the road.

02:27 Kanae Daub: Happy New Year.

02:28 John Daub: Happy New Year.

02:31 Kanae Daub: Happy New Year.

02:32 Kanae Daub: This is my first time to be in your show.

02:35 John Daub: Yeah, you haven't been on the show this year. Yeah, which is like 97. I'm like six hours old.

02:43 John Daub: That guy's really going fast.

02:46 Kanae Daub: Aloha.

02:48 John Daub: Aloha.

02:48 Kanae Daub: Can I have some snacks? Step randania?

02:51 John Daub: Yeah, have some snacks only.

02:54 Kanae Daub: Thank you. Aloha.

02:56 John Daub: Aloha. From Hawaii?

02:59 Kanae Daub: Yeah.

03:01 John Daub: Alright, 500 meters. Shin Fuji.

03:08 Kanae Daub: Konnichiwa. Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu.

03:10 John Daub: I have never gotten off at the Shin Fuji Expressway. I always keep going straight to Nagoya or straight to Osaka. Oh, we get off. And then we're going to get a straight view right onto Mt. Fuji apparently. I'm following the navigation system. We're actually just about six kilometers away from our destination.

03:41 Kanae Daub: Haru-en from the UK. Happy New Year.

03:44 John Daub: Yay.

03:45 Kanae Daub: I plan to go to Japan 2020 with my fiancé. Had our trip canceled twice. And I'm planning to go later this year. Love you both and your channel.

04:00 John Daub: Thank you.

04:01 John Daub: Well, it was like $34 for the toll. They just took it automatically. No, the lady told me on the ETC card navigation system.

04:10 Kanae Daub: Okay.

04:13 John Daub: Gotemba homen. Gotemba homen. I did it this way. Left.

04:28 Kanae Daub: Happy New Year. Air to the run. Happy New Year.

04:34 John Daub: Welcome to Fuji City. So I'm following the navigation system. It's not saying anything. Nobody here. Oh, there's a car. I know, but nobody in the area. It's weird. It's like cloudy on one side and it's completely clear on the other. And we're going to be doing a circling around to Mount Fuji right now.

05:04 John Daub: Is this the exit for Fuji Q Highland?

05:06 Kanae Daub: No, no, no. This is a... That's going towards Kawaguchiko.

05:10 John Daub: Yeah. We go to Fuji City.

05:18 Kanae Daub: It's saying go straight.

05:19 John Daub: Okay. Navigation system. Lady didn't say anything. So go straight. It's empty. I know. It's so... Oh, yes. Nanahogo.

05:36 Kanae Daub: Okay, so we're making a left here.

05:39 John Daub: Yeah. Look at the blind spot there. It's weird though because it's cloudy on this side over the Pacific Ocean, but when we're taking a left and going straight towards Mount Fuji, you're going to get an eyeful. Wow, I can see it over there on the left side.

05:59 Kanae Daub: Oh, at the mini stop.

06:00 John Daub: At the mini stop. Mini stop?

06:02 Kanae Daub: Yeah.

06:03 John Daub: Okay, can I turn the camera up?

06:04 Kanae Daub: Turn the camera up.

06:05 John Daub: Okay, okay. Oh, this is going to be cool. So I'm going to be turning left right now towards Asagiri Kogen (朝霧高原,Asagiri Kōgen).

06:15 Kanae Daub: Oh, Tony P. Is that Tony P? Hello. Or as we like to call him, Toby sometimes.

06:20 John Daub: Toby?

06:24 Kanae Daub: Sometimes. Wait for green light. Tororoko. Tororoko. Lovely to see you.

06:33 John Daub: Hey, nice to see you. Yeah. And Jimbo386, happy new year.

06:40 Kanae Daub: Weather must be cold.

06:40 John Daub: It is pretty chilly, actually. It is pretty chilly.

06:44 Kanae Daub: Yeah, but it's getting warm with the sun.

06:47 John Daub: Yeah, that's true. It's not as bad.

06:52 Kanae Daub: Ivan. Ah, Ervin Ervan. Hi. Suzette.

06:57 John Daub: Suzette. Hello.

07:02 Kanae Daub: A late happy new year.

07:05 John Daub: It's fifth. January fifth.

07:10 John Daub: Here we go towards Mount Fuji.

07:14 Kanae Daub: Oh, you're telling me. You know. I told you. You didn't believe me.

07:19 John Daub: That's an eyeful of Fuji. Yeah, it's really no snow.

07:26 Kanae Daub: Yeah.

07:27 John Daub: I was here just a little bit over a month ago, riding a bicycle on this road.

07:35 Kanae Daub: Oh, I totally remember this. There's a tea plantation on the left that we stopped at.

07:40 John Daub: Yeah. Wow.

07:41 Kanae Daub: Bring him back soon. There's a bike rider too.

07:47 John Daub: Hey, I don't know that guy.

07:50 Kanae Daub: I don't know that guy. Get excited. Look, there's no snow, Kanae.

07:54 John Daub: This is just kind of not good. It's the other side of... I don't want the other side. I want the other side.

08:07 John Daub: This iPhone is effectively a web camera now. A dashboard cam. As we drive on through to the other side, towards Obuchi Sasaba (大淵沢茶畑). And actually, Dean Newcomb and I have already done a live stream there a month ago. It was beautiful. And I'm going to fly the drone and get some shots. But I'm so disappointed. There's actually almost no more snow than there was the last time I was here.

08:36 Kanae Daub: Hi, Peter.

08:42 John Daub: Happy New Year from New Orleans. Hey, New Orleans.

08:47 Kanae Daub: New Orleans. Hope you ate your cabbage and black-eyed peas for luck.

08:54 John Daub: I had Shogatsu cuisine. The osechi-ryori (おせち料理,traditional New Year's boxed foods).

09:00 Kanae Daub: Oh, osechi-ryori.

09:01 John Daub: Yeah, we ate. Osechi-ryori.

09:04 Kanae Daub: Yeah. Why is there no snow? It's December. There's no snow. There's like very little.

09:11 John Daub: This is so weird. I'm in shock. I'm in utter and complete shock.

09:21 Kanae Daub: We came here last year, right?

09:25 John Daub: No, to Kawaguchiko. We went the other side. But it's snow at that time.

09:32 Kanae Daub: Yeah, the other side has snow. Kawaguchiko is kind of on the other side.

09:35 John Daub: And you can see the bump where the eruption happened in the 18th century. The lights are going to turn green in a second. Do you see that bump there? That's where it exploded back then. And now it's green.

09:51 Kanae Daub: Happy New Year to you both. I'm at work.

09:55 John Daub: Hey, Jerry. Jerry.

10:00 Kanae Daub: Chicago, Africa.

10:01 John Daub: Hey, Chicago, Africa. Hi.

10:04 Kanae Daub: This Super Chat is to start Kanae's fiction.

10:08 John Daub: Oh, vending machine. My fiction?

10:12 Kanae Daub: Thank you.

10:14 John Daub: We've been talking. I was talking about it. And I've actually started to plan having an Only in Japan vending machine. So Chicago, Africa knows all about that.

10:24 Kanae Daub: Oh, really?

10:24 John Daub: Yeah. Asagiri Kogen. Look at that. That is so big. That is awesome. I'll be driving. I feel like I'm inside of a video game right now, just driving towards Mount Fuji. I hope the signal's good. This is the iPhone 12 Pro. It's a little bit of an upgrade. There's a Daiso over there.

10:50 Kanae Daub: That's a new Daiso, Kanae.

10:53 John Daub: Why do you know it's new?

10:55 Kanae Daub: Because the logo changed. They changed the logo.

10:57 John Daub: Oh, I didn't know that. 100 yen shop.

11:02 John Daub: All right. As soon as this light goes green, I'm going to floor it. I'm not going to do that. No, that car just started driving. That van was going in a red light. I think it knows. I think locals know when the lights are going to change and might be a little bit jumping the gun there. Oh, we're almost there. Kanae, it's on the map. It shows the goal. It's just right there.

11:29 Kanae Daub: Yeah, there's 700. Yeah, apparently.

11:34 John Daub: It's a little bumpy. Oh. Oh. We're on an old road with construction that had been done. Now, this is called Obuchi Sasaba, and this is where they make the tea. They've had, um, hey, guys, Faze Life.

11:58 Kanae Daub: Hi, Faze Life. Hey, Faye. Welcome to Mafo. John Kimura. Hi. Happy New Year.

12:08 John Daub: Oh, John Kimura.

12:10 Kanae Daub: John Kimura is always getting something for Kanae.

12:12 John Daub: Oh, thank you.

12:14 Kanae Daub: Yeah, when I come home with stuff, it's from John Kimura and Nancy Silent. Ah, Jennifer. Jennifer French. Happy New Year, Kanae.

12:22 John Daub: Happy New Year.

12:23 Kanae Daub: It's Catherine again. Congratulations, Kanae. Thank you for driving this year too!

12:29 John Daub: It says right side.

12:33 Kanae Daub: Right side. Right side.

12:37 John Daub: It's so weird driving in the countryside. There's like no traffic.

12:48 Kanae Daub: Yeah. Come on Honda.

12:52 John Daub: Driving to Mt. Fuji again. Every winter we come here to see the snow. But today there's no snow.

13:09 Kanae Daub: Hi, Happy New Year!

13:13 John Daub: Jesse!

13:14 Kanae Daub: Jesse! Happy New Year!

13:20 John Daub: Happy New Year!

13:21 Kanae Daub: I'm looking forward to this year too. People tell me. Or, just, how do you say? Happy New Year!

13:31 John Daub: Happy New Year!

13:36 Kanae Daub: Yeah, young people use that. Happy New Year! I'm looking forward to this year too. Happy New Year! Happy New Year! Happy New Year!

13:48 John Daub: We're getting close.

13:52 Kanae Daub: Hi Ryan! Happy 2021! John and Kanae. I just saw John biking up Enoshima bridge video.

14:04 John Daub: Oh right!

14:05 Kanae Daub: Would you do it again? Enoshima, yeah. Made me want to exercise.

14:10 John Daub: I went there with Ruth. Exercise, huh?

14:13 Kanae Daub: Yeah, I went there with Ruth and we had... Ah, Enoshima.

14:21 John Daub: Wait, hold on a second. Kanae, Obuchi Sasaba, it says right side, right? I should go the other way. Navigation said left side. I believe the sign in front of me though, no?

14:31 Kanae Daub: I think you put the long... Obuchi Sasaba is right there. We put the long answer list.

14:37 John Daub: I don't want to go the wrong way. Gotta go the right way.

14:42 Kanae Daub: Happy New Year! Happy New Year! Happy New Year! Ai-chan. Hi!

14:50 John Daub: Right side, right side. Navigation system is gonna totally tell me to go the... It says this way. It's so quiet. Oh yeah, okay, now I remember where we are. We're here, we're here, we're here.

15:02 John Daub: Alright. Wow, look at the bamboo tree. There's no car behind us so I can stop and show you the sign. That's Obuchi Sasaba! We're here! Are we there?

15:15 Kanae Daub: A little bit more. Look at the sign!

15:17 John Daub: That's so cool. Alright, that's where we're going, Kanae.

15:22 Kanae Daub: Does it say this way, left? Navigation said left.

15:27 John Daub: Yeah, we need to take a picture. Let's go. Oh, this is scary! The bonsai is turning right. But we can turn right. This is deep forest here. I bet you the signal can't go between the trees.

15:42 Kanae Daub: You came here by bicycle?

15:44 John Daub: No, I didn't. Well, sort of.

15:46 Kanae Daub: Sort of. What happens if another car comes this way?

15:50 John Daub: Hi, road tuner. Happy New Year!

15:54 Kanae Daub: Happy New Year to you guys!

15:56 John Daub: Thank you! Oh, we're here! There's Mount Fuji! Oh, this is awesome!

16:02 John Daub: Alright, wait, can I go straight?

16:04 John Daub: Can I go straight, Kanae? What does that sign say?

16:06 Kanae Daub: The person who's filming is straight.

16:09 Kanae Daub: Okay, I'm a filming person.

16:10 John Daub: Yeah, we are filming. This is Obuchi Sasaba. And we were here... I was here just last month with Dean Newcomb. We did a livestream walking through here. So I'm gonna go a little bit up here and film. Oh, you can see the... Yeah, we're now among all of the tea trees. Check this out. I'm just gonna go really slow. There's not another person in this area. This is so cool.

16:41 John Daub: Is this open?

16:42 Kanae Daub: It is totally open. Nobody here. It's open 24 hours according to Google Maps.

16:47 John Daub: Oh, okay. I know what I'm talking about. I can't believe that this side... No, there's snow on the other side, but there's no snow on this side. It's bizarre. Where is everybody? I feel like we're in a zombie world. No, it does. It feels like too quiet. The place to film is up there, Kanae.

17:20 Kanae Daub: What happens if another car comes? Yeah, the parking lot is on the right. Here? No, no. You can't park here. You can't park here. They have a parking area. Right here. Right here, Kanae.

17:36 John Daub: This is it. Here? No. That's where Dean Newcomb and I... That's where I'm gonna be filming, though. Okay. Right there.

17:48 Kanae Daub: Look at the... You can see the... Oh, Michael Sasano.

17:50 John Daub: Sasano. Oh, Michael Sasano. What's that?

17:55 Kanae Daub: Hi, here's for Mount Fuji melon bread. Oh, yeah. You taste all of them. They had some good ones at Ebina. If not, Asahi is super dry instead. I'll have to get the alcohol-free one.

18:10 John Daub: All right. This is kind of neat to be driving through Obuchi Sasaba. So dry. Now, what worries me, though, is that, like, there's a cloud coming in, right? I gotta get that drone up real soon.

18:32 Kanae Daub: Hi, Ballad Show Studio.

18:34 John Daub: Hello. Hey, Ballad Show Studio. Hey. Where do I park, Kanae?

18:42 Kanae Daub: Sure.

18:43 John Daub: Yeah. I can't find the... I can't find it either.

18:51 Kanae Daub: This... The person who's filming can go here, but... I can't find it either. Oh, how... We can't even turn around, huh?

18:57 John Daub: We passed? Oh, no. We're going back into the forest. No, I don't wanna go in the forest. Can I park in there?

19:05 Kanae Daub: Yeah. Really?

19:06 John Daub: Yeah. I don't think so.

19:10 John Daub: All right. Let's go into the forest, because we're on a live stream.

19:12 Kanae Daub: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

19:13 John Daub: Okay. We're taking you deep in the forest where nothing good happened. Yeah, we can go all out. Little kids are trapped in the forest. Then they turn into ghosts and then come after you and I. Oh, yeah. We're gonna go into the forest. With creepy fingers on your tent and shake it. Blair Witch Project. The song really stinks.

19:36 John Daub: So this is Driving Obuchi Sasaba. Should I change the title of the live stream?

19:44 Kanae Daub: Yeah. This is Deep Fuji. This is Deep, Deep Mount Fuji.

19:51 John Daub: This is still Fuji City, too. It's tiny road.

19:55 Kanae Daub: Yeah. What if another car came?

19:59 John Daub: Can I... Is this one way? I have no idea. Oh, there's some more tea fields. How can I pass Obuchi Sasaba? How can I do this?

20:11 Kanae Daub: Okay, you know what? Yeah, we can go there. There's Mount Fuji there on the left.

20:15 John Daub: I think I can just do a U-turn. We're gonna do a U-turn. Can I just do a U-turn here? There's not a car in sight. I'm so used to driving a manual.

20:45 John Daub: All right. Obuchi Sasaba. Take two. That's the sign right there. How do we go past the parking lot? Where is it?

20:53 Kanae Daub: I don't know. To the left there, we do have to watch out for zombies.

20:58 John Daub: Okay. All right. Back in we go. There's absolutely no traffic here. So I guess I'm just gonna go park at that parking lot that we were at before. And then I can film the scenes in about 30 minutes, and then we're out of here. We're gonna go film another tea plantation. So it's kinda cool to be live right now. We are at Obuchi Sasaba, which has one of the best views of Mount Fuji. As you saw, we just drove through here. You're gonna wanna go to the playback now if you're coming and joining us right now. But from this vantage point, it is, I would say, probably the best green tea shot in the entire country of Japan.

21:43 John Daub: And here now, this is Obuchi Sasaba going down into the valley. It's really beautiful, isn't it? Even this direction. Mount Fuji is the other way, but even this way, it's really nice. And to your left and right is green tea. This is Shizuoka. It has the best green tea right here. All you have to do is chop off some, and you have... Well, I think the new leaves don't start growing until about March. And then at the end of April, they'll harvest it. They call it a flush, and then they make the tea from that. Three times a year?

22:15 Kanae Daub: I missed all of them.

22:18 John Daub: I missed all of them. I think I'm just gonna pull into where this tree is. See this one tree? This is where Dean Newcomb and I... Oh, look at that! You see that? That's so nice. Look at this beautiful view of the rows of green tea. Right now, the guy who's watering it, he's sometimes out here in the morning, but he's not here.

22:53 Kanae Daub: That's Rotunner.

22:55 John Daub: I'm gonna see if I can pull in here.

22:57 Kanae Daub: Yeah.

23:00 John Daub: I think I can... Can you do that? Yeah. Oh, in Japan, we always back in. Yeah. Be careful.

23:25 Kanae Daub: Hey, I passed my test with flying colors.

23:30 John Daub: Oh. Just gonna stop here for a minute. Oh, you did it.

23:35 Kanae Daub: Yeah.

23:37 John Daub: We did it. All right. I'm gonna just show you a little bit. I'm gonna show you, because I think you've earned it. This is really cool, driving all the way from the Tomei Expressway to this point here. We actually didn't go through Fuji City. I thought we would. It's okay.

23:53 Kanae Daub: It's parking. She's a new driver.

23:57 John Daub: So I'm gonna take you onto this gimbal here, and then show you just a little bit around, and give you a couple of minutes just staring at Mount Fuji in your own way. So if you have a cup of coffee, this is the time. Maybe you want to refresh it. I'm taking you off. Here you go. You're going onto the gimbal. Now, this could hurt. It could hurt a little bit. So my hands are cold. This doctor say this here. So you're gonna flip for a second. You're gonna flip for a second. And now we're back. See? Just painless.

24:32 John Daub: All right. You want to stay here?

24:32 Kanae Daub: Can I?

24:33 John Daub: Yeah. You should turn off the car then.

24:35 Kanae Daub: Yeah. Car is off.

24:40 John Daub: Actually, I could have gone further, can I? Look, see? I could have gone further. But there's not a soul around here. It's pretty amazing. This is... Oh, no! They put a blue tarp here! It's closed for the season or something? Oh, that's really [inaudible]. Oh, this is where I was last year with Dean Newcomb. And you could sit here and sip tea and stuff. And now I can't do that. There's a blue tarp. Oh, man.

25:15 John Daub: All right. I'm panning now. And you're gonna get a full view of Fuji-san. I'm kind of really disappointed. And then I gotta get some drone shots. But actually, it's nice, huh?

25:36 Kanae Daub: Why is it... It's nice air.

25:37 John Daub: Yeah. It's very fresh air.

25:39 Kanae Daub: Why is it weird? It's tilting.

25:47 John Daub: So this is a live view of Mount Fuji. And you can see the green tea in the front of it. Mm. But if you come here and you have a drone, this is a drone-friendly place. So you can get some amazing views of Mount Fuji from here flying the drone. And right now, it does look really mystical. But it would be better with blue sky. I'm really disappointed.

26:13 Kanae Daub: Can't you get closer?

26:15 John Daub: You mean to Mount Fuji? I probably could. But that's not my purpose. I'm actually filming some insert scenes of green tea. And I'm a little bit disappointed. I'm slightly disappointed. Actually, I wanted to get some green tea, Kanae. We forgot. I forgot to get the cup of green tea for the thumbnail and the final scene.

26:39 Kanae Daub: Yeah. Yeah. To do it. You like this place?

26:42 John Daub: Yeah.

26:45 Kanae Daub: Nothing. Why is the gimbal weird?

26:53 John Daub: You guys are weird. It's not... It's like... It's wobbly. I don't know why.

27:04 Kanae Daub: Yeah. It's weird.

27:05 John Daub: All right. Get an eyeful here. And then I'm going to cut the livestream. And you'll join me in another livestream later on today. Some of you might be asleep on the East Coast of the US. But we do have a couple more places to go. So maybe you get a chance to see Mount Fuji from a different angle or a different viewpoint. I'm actually thinking today to go...

27:27 Kanae Daub: Kanae's name is spelled K-A-N-A-E, not I.

27:31 John Daub: Kanae. But when you say it in English, it sounds like... When you say it quickly, it sounds like Kanae. Kanae. But it's Kanae. Kanae. But it's very hard to end with an E.

27:41 Kanae Daub: Yeah. Because your mouth is Kanae. So Kanae... Kanae.

27:48 John Daub: Is first time to be here, which is very interesting.

27:52 Kanae Daub: Yeah.

27:53 John Daub: So I'm going to try to take you to another spot in Fuji. I'm actually thinking to drive up to the fifth station, the Fujinomiya fifth station. In the winter, it's closed. But you can go up to the fifth station town. And they do have a post office, which is open. That'd be a pretty cool place to send the postcards. But I think I might be taking a picture for the postcard club this month from here with the tea plantations from the drone. And that'll be the postcard for January. And if you're interested in that, go to Patreon and you'll be able to get a postcard sent to you, I guess, on the 10th of January. They'll go out and they should arrive to you by the end of the month.

28:28 Kanae Daub: Oh, Art writes in here... Ana writes in, Kanae is so pretty. That's what it is. Thank you.

28:35 John Daub: Thank you. So you're in Tokyo. Pretty name.

28:38 Kanae Daub: Thank you. Yes. Thank you for the prettiness. Thank you.

28:41 John Daub: What about me?

28:42 Kanae Daub: I just woke up. You look pretty.

28:45 John Daub: You look pretty, John.

28:47 Kanae Daub: I don't want to be...

28:49 John Daub: Okay, I'll take it. If Kanae says it, I'll take it. It's all right. I don't need you guys in the chat to say anything.

28:55 Kanae Daub: Hey, Bela. Kathy's here. How you doing, Bela?

28:58 John Daub: There you go. I promised you, Bela, I would take you to Fuji last night before I went to bed. And there you go. Thank you. Hi, to Bela, to Mrs. Kathy. How you doing? Over in the beautiful state of Illinois.

29:15 John Daub: You can... I'm going to... Maybe I can zoom in a little bit more. You can't really see... I'm so disappointed because there's no snow. I was hoping for a white cap of snow. It's crazy. It's not a lot there.

29:32 Kanae Daub: Kanae's... That is Kanae's real name.

29:33 John Daub: What do you mean?

29:34 Kanae Daub: That's Kanae's fake name. She's an alias because she's a spy.

29:39 John Daub: I'm not lying. Her real name, she can't tell you. I'm not lying. She can't tell you.

29:42 Kanae Daub: I can't tell you her real name. What's your real...

29:45 John Daub: Hey, do you prove it now? I want to know. If it's not... If that is not your real name, who are you?

29:54 Kanae Daub: I don't know. Am I living a lie?

29:58 John Daub: This is Kanae. This feels like a spy movie now. This feels like a spy movie.

30:03 John Daub: All right, anyways, I hope that you enjoyed this. Take a look one more last time at... And this maybe is a reason to go get a cup of green tea from Japan. These are the tea fields. And I believe... I don't know. I forget what the distance is, but they usually have it at 10 meters each, but some of these go a little bit... A lot longer than 10 meters, it looks like. It's interesting, the lines that they have. And when you look from the sky, from the drone, you'll really get a chance to see it. The way that they do it... Maybe it's 25 meters, I think. This is like half the size of an Olympic swimming pool, maybe. I don't know. I like the shape.

30:38 Kanae Daub: Yeah.

30:39 John Daub: The bushes or the shrubs, because green tea is like a shrub pretty much. You see the way it goes in the lines, like this way, and then they'll do it this way. And then from the sky, it's so pretty. This place here. I'm taking you in to look at the green tea. There you go. This is green tea close up. Okay? This one, it just looks like a shrub. Just looks like a shrub. I'm just gonna... Just gonna... This one's... This one's ripped.

31:19 John Daub: Have you ever tried green tea picking?

31:30 Kanae Daub: Nothing. You want to have some?

31:37 John Daub: Yeah, that's fine. I see your face, and I don't do this.

31:42 Kanae Daub: Somebody said, why do I always look angry? And the answer was, my dad looks like Clint Eastwood. And he walks around looking like this. That's why. That's what Kanae says, he looks like Clint Eastwood.

31:59 John Daub: Anyways, it's a true story. Nathan Simpson's hair! Gallon of gas on me.

32:01 Kanae Daub: This thing actually is a gas guzzler. It's not a gas guzzler. It's a hybrid.

32:08 John Daub: I thought it was. Actually, we're still on a full tank of gas, and we drove here from Tokyo.

32:14 Kanae Daub: Nagi A. Thank you. Awesome Adam from 2929. The future is here too.

32:22 John Daub: Awesome. There you go, guys. I hope you enjoyed this. Give me a thumbs up if you want some more Fuji. I'm gonna check back. If we have a thousand likes, I will do another live stream today because I love you guys. And I want to see if I can go to the fifth station of... Like up onto the fifth station. I guess it's right there on the side. Okay. Let's see if we can get a live stream from the fifth station where you would start hiking up to Mount Fuji. I don't know if there's any snow up there, but if we can go up there, I'm gonna take you. But in order to do that, we need to get to a thousand likes, so it's up to you, community, and the playback. When we get there, click like right now. See you later.

33:20 Kanae Daub: Looking forward to visiting Japan again and seeing the tea plantations at Uji.

33:24 John Daub: Uji is really nice too. I like Shizuoka. I like this view. You do not get Mount Fuji at Uji.

33:31 Kanae Daub: Did you catch that, Kanae?

33:34 John Daub: You don't get Mount Fuji at Uji. Okay? I couldn't understand.

33:39 Kanae Daub: Fuji, Uji, Uji. Fuji, Uji.

33:40 John Daub: It could be a song. Fuji, Uji.

33:45 John Daub: Thanks, everybody. I'll see you in a few hours from the fifth station if we can get up there. But I'll be looking back and seeing if we get a thousand likes because it's up to you, community, and the playback. When we get there, click like right now. See you later.

34:02 Kanae Daub: See you later.
