Japan's Ultra CHEESE Pizza w Extra Cheese a Cheesy Experience
Japan's Ultra CHEESE Pizza w Extra Cheese a Cheesy Experience
Overview
In this episode, John Daub takes on a viewer challenge to try Domino's Pizza Japan's "Ultra Cheese" pizza. Requested by a viewer named Nicholas, John pushes the limits by ordering double extra cheese on top of the already cheese-loaded pizza, aiming for over 1.4 kilograms of cheese. The video documents the unboxing experience, where the sheer volume of cheese warps the pizza box, and the tasting session with his wife Kanae and son Leo.
John breaks down the pricing, the ingredients, and the bizarre inclusion of maple syrup as a dipping sauce. He questions whether the dish qualifies as pizza without tomato sauce, comparing it more to cheesy bread. The review covers the visual spectacle of the cheese pull, the taste profile, and whether the 5,000 yen price tag is justified. It's a fun, indulgent look at one of Japan's most extreme convenience food offerings.

00:03 John Daub: He's here. Hi! So we ordered what Nicholas asked us to do, the Ultra Cheese Pizza. We're going to pick it up right now. Hold on. This is supposed to be over one kilogram of cheese because I ordered double cheese on an Ultra Pizza. I'll just explain it to you in a second. Alright, he's here.
00:41 John Daub: Kanae's getting the bowls. It's too much cheese. Thank you. Oh my gosh. I just got the box. It's like because of the heat and moisture inside of it, it is warped. There's so much cheese, Kanae. The box is warped. This is bizarre.
01:32 John Daub: Alright, check this out. You can thank Nicholas for this. Nicholas has been giving hints to get his Ultra Cheese Pizza. I don't know what the big deal is. Nicholas, this is for you, buddy. This is a special live stream. Thank you. Thank you, Nicholas. Okay, ready? I'm scared. This is a lot of cheese. This is the cheesiest episode that I've ever made. And there's a lot of cheesy episodes. Oh my god. The cheese is overflowing. The cheese is overflowing, Kanae. I know. What? Oh my... My god. I can't even see sauce. Why would they do this? If they didn't use sauce for this? I don't know. Look at this bubble. Look at the bubbles in the cheese. God. Why would they do this? This is so crazy. It's awesome. Where's the pizza? Right in Japan? Look at it overflowing.
02:49 John Daub: Alright, let's do this quick. This isn't gonna be a very long episode. Nicholas is here just for the fun. Protein? I don't think so. Lactose. I think so. Alright, let's sit down. There's no other way to do it. You just have to eat it. I can't believe how insane this is. Nicholas, you have to explain why we had to eat this. Wow. There's no other way to describe this. It's insane. This is the greatest day ever or... it's just insanity.
03:36 John Daub: Okay, I put a GoPro camera here to see how cheesy this can get. Let me reduce the light a little bit. Alright, there's a good shot. I'm gonna pick up the cheese pizza and I think you're gonna see the cheese rising from the thing when you try to pick up a slice. That's part of the fun. Here we go. This is how cheesy this episode is. This is your slice, Kanae. Do you have like a spatula or something, some kind of egg turner? This is crazy. The cheese is overflowing. I can't pick it up. Do you have the small one maybe? Tools of the trade. Arigatou. Alright, Mr. Clayton, I'm getting heartburn. Oh my gosh, can you see this? Hold on, you have to get a little closer. Okay, there you go. You can see the effort being put into lifting this. How are you supposed to dish it? Oh, so I ordered a square version so you don't have to pick it up. They gave you an option for square pizza here.
05:45 John Daub: Leo's awake. Oh my gosh, yeah, from your voice. Sorry, Leo. You got to eat it well before the cheese congeals. What have you done? The pizza was 42 dollars and I added extra cheese so it came out to an even 5000 yen. Go say it, it's 50 bucks. It's crazy. Is it worth it? I don't know. Here you go. Itadakimasu. It's heavy. That is really heavy. There's no sauce. There's no tomato sauce in there. Just cheese. The cheese... good. That's it. Sure it's good but I think I can't eat a whole pizza. I don't think anybody could eat all. I'm talking about food eaters, man.
07:16 John Daub: So we had to make this over one kilogram. I'm going to show you Domino's website in a second but this is the large pizza and you can get a Y size. It's a little bit larger than this one, extra large I guess. It's called the Y size. That is a kilogram of cheese. This one had 700 grams so to compensate for this, Nicholas, because I didn't want to cheat, I added extra cheese which should double the 700 grams to 1400, 1.4 kilograms of cheese. You could add double cheese, it's called the Ultra Cheese. Why would you need double cheese? You could have added more cheese to it. It came with this sauce. That's not the end of this. Let's see. Michael Sasana's in the house. Looks really good. We'll wait for your review. What kind of cheese is it? It's a good question. John Davis, looks like a Japanese version of Little Caesars. Yeah, the way that they cut it is very Little Caesars-ish. Oh my gosh, Leo just woke up because I'm so excited. Christian James Calderon writes, how much is this? We answered that. Thank you, Christian. Did I miss anything, Mr. Clayton? Randania writes aloha. Let's see what's in this sauce. I get a feeling that this is going to be weird too.
09:02 John Daub: What? That's maple syrup. Why would they put maple syrup on this? It's like a Canadian thing. Any Canadians here? It's not real maple syrup, it's like artificial maple [?]. Not only is it cheesy, it's sweet. I don't get it. Like garlic butter sauce, okay. Garlic spices, jalapeños, pepperoni, maple syrup. Don't get it. Is this a joke? I don't know. Without sauce it's just a giant cheese stick. I could roll it up, make it like a cheese burrito. It's pretty crazy. Leo is gonna get here in a second. I don't know what other way to explain this to you but this pizza is so bizarre. Now let's see if I can get a nice thumbnail for this. Oh, that's crazy. Question is, is this pizza worth 50 dollars? Was this just crazy for me to do?
12:15 John Daub: Here's my review. This is gonna be short. Crust is good. The sauce, I don't even know what it is. The visuals, five stars. Look at it coming off. Look at the cheese off of the crust. Who does that? Only Domino's. That's awesome. But with 50 dollars, I don't know. Need a coupon, you definitely need a coupon. Review: it's good cheese. It's not anything special. To me it tastes like Domino's normal cheese. I realize now that Domino's doesn't put a lot of it on their pizzas. They put a lot of other ingredients. You taste the sauce, you taste the other stuff. But now we're just tasting the pure cheese. If Domino's were to just put other things on there, you wouldn't really taste the cheese. I had a choice of putting more toppings on there, I chose not to. But I think the cheese has to be good with something like this and it's good cheese but something's missing. That's why maybe they gave us this maple syrup sauce. There's something missing. You can take it out. Look at that. Maybe that's what they thought of. But someone who likes maple syrup sauce. There's no red sauce. There's no tomato sauce underneath there. It's just cheese. Do you need to have sauce on there? If you zoom in on there, it looks like the cheese is the sauce. That's craziness. It's insanity. That's a thing of beauty.
14:45 John Daub: I don't think it's a pizza fail. I think that the fish and chips pizza was a pizza fail. They had something called a butter chicken curry which had Indian curry on the pizza. That was a success. I ate that off of YouTube so I did it just for private. I took some pictures for Instagram. It's really good. The butter chicken pizza was a big success. Fish and chips fail. Ultra cheese, this is the most confusing of them all. I don't know what it is. If it doesn't have sauce, it's not a pizza. Domino's might disagree with me but it comes down to the consumer. What do you think? Do you think that this pizza is... I mean, is it a pizza or is it just cheesy bread? Just look at it. I can't even do this. It's so heavy. It's starting to get cold so it loses its cheesiness. What do you think? Pizza? Not pizza? Leave a comment below and let me know.
16:10 John Daub: Air to the Ron's like what? Whoa. That's awesome. Von is like is it worth $50? That's worth Australian $5. Nicholas, I hope that this satisfies your curiosity. We're going to eat this over the course of... Nicholas will eat this over the course of like a week for our cholesterol. I think Kanae gave up and just left. I think she escaped. Hit that like button right now. Risha Bajpai writes, tried it a while back, had to eat it with sriracha, the spicy sauce. Spicy sauce would definitely be good with this. Marshall Ellis, from what I can tell, it's nothing more than a cheesy type of bread. So in all, it's not really pizza without the sauce. I think if they had the sauce on the side, they should have put like a dipping sauce. By the way, my studio is almost complete for Twitch. It's pretty cool. I have my Sony A1. That's a GH5 but it's going to be really awesome.
19:00 John Daub: Check this out. So this is what we ordered, Nicholas. It's the Ultra Cheese. Cheese, the amount of cheese, and love cheese your way. Medium is 250 grams, which is a quarter of a kilo. We ordered this one because this size, it's too hard to get rid of. But I ordered double cheese on this so technically it should be 1.4 kilograms of cheese. It's made from 100% mozzarella cheese. This was the pizza for 2021. Very special pizza here in Domino's. It says Ultra Cheese, registered trademark. Introducing our Ultra Cheese pizzas, loaded with plenty of 100% mozzarella cheese. You can choose from different sizes. Whether you're eating with a friend, your wife, or having a party, grab a slice and see how far the cheese stretches before your mouthful of mouth-watering mozzarella. See, they know about social media. They know that people are going to take pictures of this and put on YouTube because it's crazy.
20:13 John Daub: Alright, let's see the prices. Regular size 500 gram is a large pizza delivered is $35. Small size is $30, 3000 yen. 100 yen is a dollar. The pizza we got here $42 but I ordered extra cheese so it ended up being an extra $5. With tax and stuff it came out to like 5000 yen. The Ultra Cheese one kilogram is just too big, New Yorker size. I'm half a New Yorker because I've been here half my life. You can decide how to cut it. You can go round cut but we went this cut, which is more like Little Caesars. It now comes with a condiment, served with a pack of maple syrup. Additional packs cost 30 yen. I didn't know you could order maple sauce, barbecue sauce, Korean seaweed flakes. Really? Parmesan. I didn't know you could order those. Little pack. Promotions may be changed or canceled without warning. Why? Well, that wasn't today in Domino's Pizza Japan. It's crazy. For now, is it worth it? You have the final call, everybody. I woke my son up for this. Is this worth $49 with extra cheese? You be the call. Is it pizza? You be the call. Just leave me a comment below. I thank you for watching. I'll be back in another episode. Probably do something with the Twitch studio. We're going to try out the Sony A1 as a web camera tonight maybe. And I'm still editing a video which is taking forever. I apologize. Have a good day, everybody. Enrich your world with cheese. Nicholas, and thank you once again, Nicholas. This is fun. Bye, everybody. I'm going to recycle this [box] to make some waffles tomorrow maybe. I don't think Danny is going to be happy. That's not real Canadian maple syrup.
